from tomorrow of course…for those who can't yet see the discount :)

    • Thank you for the mention, I edited the title to show so.

Thanks OP, will definitely jump on this deal before I start work tomorrow.

Hopefully there's enough stock, else I'll be cranky

        • +2

          You're a shocker.

  • +3

Hmm, getting close to the cost of the internal SLA battery alone (depending on shelf age & quality etc.). I wonder what spec battery is in these particular units… would be at least 17ah, possibly more.

  • Waiting for the air compressor and accs. kit special again

  • +1

Very good price - the best Ive seen is $64.90 but that was over a year ago.
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/177295

I have had this unit for well over a year and it still works well. Ran a small pump off it to blow up a biscuit (for towing behind jetski) last weekend.. ran for a good 20-30 mins and still did not go flat.

    • Hi, in the previous deal you mentioned about recharging to make it stop beeping. Is there really no way to turn off beeping? And is the beeping very annoying/noisy?

      • Mine was beeping non stop for a couple of weeks while I was in the middle of moving and couldn't find the charger plug. I couldn't figure out any way to stop it beeping.

      • +3

No way to turn off the beeping (unless you charge it, or open it and kill the beepy thingie)

But given you are damaging the unit by leaving it at low charge, the best option really is to charge it as soon as it needs it, and keep good track of the charger cable.

        • Thabks for the inputs buddy.

pocket jump starter i prefer. The posted jumpstarter would be a waste of petrol to be lugging around everywhere.

    • +1

The future of jump-starters are the lithium-ion-type sold at Jaycar at eye-watering prices, but they are much lighter and compact.

      • +1

Yeah for jumpstarting purposes the new li-ion type is definitely the way to go. Just be aware that keeping li-ion batteries in a hot car will degrade them more quickly.

Jumpstarters like this have much higher capacity than the li-ion ones though, so if you intend to run other 12V devices then this could be a better idea.

      • +2

Suaoki D21 is just under $100 on eBay and G7 is $125 with air pump
Tried one of those and I swear I'll never go back to those bulky jump starter.

  • any ideas, as to how long does the charge stay if unused after its fully charged?

    • SLA batteries self-discharge at about 3-5% per month. Li-Ion is 1.5-2% per month, higher if stored in a hot car.

So in theory it should last a few months between charges and still work fine, depending on how flat your car battery is.

  • +1

I bought one of these when it was on special last time. I take it camping with me so i have constant Mobile phone charge and have used it to jump start my housemate's car and mine a few times too. Life saver and great value.

  • Says it's suitable for 4cyl car but the reviews mentions it's good on larger 6cyl cars too

    • -1

I have a 2.4l Honda and this wouldn't start my car when it was flat.

        • Yes, agreed, so if your car is flat (which is when you would want to use a jump starter) then probally go for a bigger one rather than this one in my experience.

  • I wish the larger capacity one with the 240v plug was on sale too

  • +2

Owned this unit for 4yrs now.
    Still goin good i guess.
I check it for charge here and then.
Keep it in the boot of my V6.
I try charge it up after every use.

One easter camp trip after multiple mobile phones and using it for a night light, and a couple of jump starts (radio on) it was on one bar of battery.

I clamped the unit in place for 10mins to my car and it gave it just enough juice to start my V6.

    Not bad at all.

Probably will buy another unit when this dies

    • +1

Or just replace the SLA battery if its cost-effective to do so.

  • How does it compare to portable devices, something like this:

    https://www.target.com.au/p/emergency-power-bank-11-mah/5803…

    • +2

If you're intending to just jumpstart a car, that small portable one will work fine. You just have to leave it connected to the weak car battery for maybe 10-20 minutes to charge it up.

If you want to power 12V devices (e.g. lighting, a mains inverter, fan) or charge your phone/tablet several times when camping, this one has far higher capacity than the one above. You'll also be able to jumpstart a car immediately, or at least after just a short charge time.

  • With their membership you can order one for pickup now (unless instore only) and it will apply the credits to your account.
Membership costs $5 but gives $10 credit so basically $5 off.

    • +1

If you have club membership then buy it on your 28 degrees card tonight and you can claim back the price difference when the sale starts through the club and also through 28 degrees price protection. That way you get the $47.10 credited in your club account and also $47.10 back on your credit card :)

  • This one is cheaper: http://www.kmart.com.au/product/jump-starter---900-amp/11979… . Started my V6 twice. It even has a built-in air compressor.

    • Which one is better do you think? The K-Mart one has a couple of extra features (Usb charge, voltmeter, aforementioned air compressor) that is actually useful in some situations. But the retail is only $60…why so cheap?

The SCA brand one has a retail of $115 marked down to $67.98 for basically identical specs minus a few features. Im going to ignore the alarm feature even though it could be useful its not really something I want. Its not like SCA is a good brand anyway, just a housebranded appliance.

Im leaning towards the K-Mart one but Im suspicious somewhat.

      • +1

        This one got USB too

      • alarm feature is annoying as fk, mine broke and it was on all the time regardless if the battery was charged or not.

guess where it ended up !

        • @Cheap Charlie: is it easy to find the wires and snip it? I wish it just had an off switch.

        • @Cheap Charlie:

I ended up taking the battery out of the box and connecting the jumper cables directly to the battery. I charge the battery now with my 5 stage charger. You can actually get away charging the batteries themselves inside the box by connecting to the jumper cables… cheap source for 14-24ah batteries.

        • @Cheap Charlie:

It is easier to leave them inside but I kinda wanted the battery to last more than 12 months as the supplied charger is a simple charger that won't stop charging once its full.. the broken buzzer was the tipping point :P

        • @storyteller:
This is what I do. The jump cables are directly wired to the battery terminals.
That said, if you charge it up, it lasts several months in storage between charges.
I last charged it after a camping trip, then went to charge it for the next trip 4 months later and it was still full.

        • @Cheap Charlie:

Never had beeping issues outside of the battery just needing a recharge.

I wonder what will happen if they don't get sold and sit on the shelf for 2 years. When the battery self-discharges, will there be a whole shelf of beeping boxes at SCA?

      • I don't have an SCA one, so cannot tell which one is better. I bought it 5 years ago in hurry, and K-Mart was just around the corner. It looks quite crappy, very K-Mart typical, but it does the job quite ok. I've used it frequently (not for its main purpose): pumping bikes/balls, power supply for various 12V stuffs (solder iron, air pump, work light, …).

Its battery still gets a lot of charge, which is a good sign. I recharge it using a multi-stage recharger, not the crappy one included though.

      • I own the kmart one and my brother in law has the SCA one.
The SCA one is dramatically better build quality. The kmart one just feels crappy, compared to it.
I would definitely get the SCA if I was buying again, although when I replace mine I will choose the next size up for a bit more storage capacity.

      • I've owned both, the Kmart one was great, always worked, until the Wife broke it (I think by putting it round the wrong way) after a year, but I had trouble getting my car to start from the Supercheap one (perhaps I got a dud?)
        Car is 2.4l honda V6

    • +2

I have the K-Mart one. It does the job, but feels a bit cheap and crap.

The light on it is pretty bodgy.

Also, the most annoying thing is that the jumper cables aren't attached at all, they always fall off. Judging by the picture of this one they clamp onto the actual jump started so don't fall off.

Also, the cables are very short on the K-Mart one as you can see from the pics. And only one 12v cigarette slot.

      • Thanks for sharing. Guess Ill get the SCA one. Id rather have a machine thats marginally better at doing its core functions, than having a few extra features which may or may not come to use.

  • Will the 1900amp also go on sale?

    • +3

The jump starter 1900A 38Ah was on sale a month ago, I bought mine for $125 (instead of $205 normally).

Though I didn't need that size for my V6, it was cheaper than the 1200A and only $10 more than the 900A ($115 normally).

  • +1

Had this one for about two years. Would recommend.
    Very sturdy construction.
USB failed after ~10 months, was replaced by store.
Still works well. Have jumped a few cars with it. Great for camping to run lights, charge phones and inflate beds with an air pump.
    Cigarette sockets are handy.

Contains a 17ahr sealed lead acid battery.
Will beep if voltage becomes too low. This is important because low voltage will damage the battery.
Battery can be replaced but this unit is so cheap that it may not be worth it.

  • A (dodgy?) trick for those SuperCheap Club Members, who also have credit card price protection:

    • buy it tonight for $115 BEFORE it goes on sale
    • tomorrow when it goes on sale SuperCheap will credit the $47 sale price difference to your account to spend at SCA later
    • then claim the $47 difference (between paid price of $115 and sale price of $68 ) on your credit card via price protection

Should be valid as you never received a refund/credit to your credit card.

    • +4

"mad profits to be made by lying in affidavit bro"

      • Where is the lie? $115 would be the price you paid, and the receipt and lack of refund to credit card supports that. Hence an approved price protection claim.

The store credit supplied by SCA is a bonus.

  • Any ideas if this will jump a V6 VZ commodore? It says small to medium 4 cylinders so I'm not too hopeful.

  • I found the ones on DX.com to be cheaper and smaller (esp the ones w/o an air compressor - they're like a portable HDD!). My old SCA one was more handy than expected but died after 12 months…

      Links?

      • Sorry am at work, but search for the brand 'CAR KING' (or CARKING), from memory.
