720lm, 12W. That's about a normal 100watt globe, not real bright for a spotlight or is it?

    • It will flood light the inside of a standard dog kennel… maybe

      • a large one

$229.22 ($252.14 incl GST) Please include the GST in title please.

It is way too expansive, can buy it from ebay for $20 (post from Australia)

May be you could say quality is different , but will this one last 12 time longer than the PIR LED floodlight is in doubt.

Fair enough it is expensive but would rather pay more for quality upfront then keep calling out the electrical to replace the light when they fail within 6-12 months. This has a 5 year warranty which reflects the cost.

    • you can buy a 12V one so that you do not need electrician.

    • Yeah, there has to be a reason why its $230 and Master ones are $70, quality is probably it.

LOL… The Clipsal name adds $160…..

        • CLipsal stuff stands the test of time, I would never put any other power points or switches in my house. Saying that, the sensors exposed to weather tend to cop a bit of a beating. So a 5 year warranty would be worth the extra money.

will take decade to recoup the cost difference between this light and regular spotlight through electricity saving.

    • Especially if it's a security light which only turns on occasionally.

    • At 720 Lumens, it's about the same output as a 12V 35W halogen. Let's compare to a 50W, just to help the payback period.

They claim 12W, while a 50W halogen is (say) 55W total. So, we can guess we will save 43 Watts.

Ignore the sensor for a moment, and run it 10 hours per night x 365 days x 0.043kW = 157 kWh per year x 30 cents = $47 per annum savings… but that's running all night.

As a sensor light, you'd expect what, an HOUR per night?

So, running 1 hours every night it saves $4.70 per annum. That equates to a 53.6 year payback period on that (so-called) bargain $252 investment.

Yeah, you could replace a 500W Halogen and save more power, however this is comparing the same light output. So, this takes 50+ years to recoup the difference instead of fitting a 12V 50W Halogen (with transformer).

It's not worth it. Even the $50 chinese cheapies aren't worth it from electricity savings alone.

I don't understand why these would be so expensive. A 12w (720lm) LED downlight is less than $20. A standard motion sensor outdoor light is less than $20. Combine the two together - how does it get to $250?

      Clipsal= quality but crazy expensive.

      • +1

Some Clipsal might be quality gear, but this almost certainly isn't really a Clipsal product.

This seems to be a rebadge of a product called "Sentinel" that is sold in the UK.

The price structure is to protect the profit margins of Electrician and the Wholesaler. This price is "RETAIL".

  • You need an anti theft sensor to protect this one.
