    Seems like a solid deal.

Just not sure about the 12mth thing.

I just finished my contract and was looking at doing something like this but Voda has a 50/mth 10GB month to month which seems more up my alley.

    They also have a 12GB 12mth plan for 50/mth.

    • +2

I guess if you don't mind the less international call and better Telstra coverage, than this is a good deal?

      • Yeah, really no need for international calls and Voda reception has been ok for me apart from my home being just out of 4G range which Jill's my battery.

Really just hanging out for Note6 so I'll do mth to mth till then.

        Telstra coverage? Hmmmm

    • Thanks

    • +1

Optus has this for 40-50 depending on how you go about things. There's student discount, Uber partner discount, etc.

$40 mo = 10GB+UNLIM calls for Uber partners
      $45mo = Student 11GB+UNLIM ($50 norm)
      $36mo = student 7GB+UNLIM ($40 norm)

Edit: all include 300-500mins international calls. All 12mo min plans.

FINALLY!!! The $10 credit and all extra bonuses are available for existing customers! Thanks for posting this! I've been waiting for something like this for a while. Over 12 months it works out to be $55 per month (taking into account the one free month discount). For 10GB and unlimited calls on the Telstra network, I'm happy with that. I've moved my number and my wifes to this plan. Saves us heaps.

  • This is interesting. Let's see what optus and voda have as the next offer

    • +7

the optus deal I'm in is 10G data, unlimited SMS, calls, 300 min international per month and for $40 over 12 months ….. it's not a matter of Optus offering more ……. it's telstra charging less and still not caught up. I'm in metro melbourne and optus and telstra have same coverage so I switched back to Optus as Telstra used to $1000 calls at $1 per minute ……. at least they have realised that the other carriers have headed toward unlimited calls in the $40+ plans.

Optus also do data sharing sims for once off cost of $5 ….. Telstra are $5 per month if you want to share data with others (my son has dual sim phone) or you want a sim for your tablet. Wonder when telstra drop this monthly data share fee.

The 12 month lock ins aren't a big deal as none of them are going to come out with a killer deal …………they all seem to be the $40-$55 plans with 10G data and unlimited calls on 12 months.

Don't think I'd waste my time porting to save $1-2 per week ……. better things to do with my time.

      • +4

That Optus deal is great. If only I had good coverage where I live (in semi-rural QLD). My only choice is Telstra sadly, so deals like this get me pretty excited :/

        • It's sad when a phone plan gets you excited!!!!
I'm in the same boat. Looked and the telechoice deal, but “TeleChoice uses part of Telstra’s 3G mobile network”. Really couldn't figure out whether I would be worse off or not.

Might go for this plan now….I'm excited too ;-)

        • +1

@slipperypete: haha I know how you feel. I'll keep this plan until something better comes along. There'll be more good deals over the coming year hopefully.

        • +1

@slipperypete: Telechoice going to get 4G though,

          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/243631

Not a bad deal for Telechoice
          11GB data (5GB + 6GB Bonus)
          Unlimited^ Calls, Text and MMS
300 international minutes to selected countries

Using Telstra Network, and now 4G

I guess you go for Telstra if you want the extra "freebies" (i.e. • 10GB/mth free Wi-Fi data at 300,000 Telstra Air® Hotspots & • 2016 AFL Live Pass or NRL Digital Pass)

        • @cloudie9:

Not really interested in the freebies. I just want good reception and good data.

If I could figure out what the “TeleChoice uses part of Telstra’s 3G mobile network” actually means it would be on.

I wish I could just figure out what part is missing. I know they are going to 4G but does this "part of" mean certain stations don't work or just that certain stations are not included?!

Also I gather that the Telstra air is only for mobile devices…I couldn't roll up with my laptop and use it could I??

Gotta admit that free apple music is a tempter with telstra!

        • +1

@slipperypete: RE: Telstra Air, I'm afraid its limited to mobile/ tablet devices though, as it utilized logins through Apps based that can be downloaded off AppStore or Play Store, unless if there is an App for windows/ mac based?

        • @cloudie9:

Yeah thought so…wouldn't make much difference as no spots within 45 minute drive anyway

          Cheers

        • +2

@slipperypete: No Telstra air is not just for mobiles and tablets. You can use a laptop.

        • @robertm:

Now I have to drive bloody 45 minutes to make use of it

          Thanks mate ;-)

        • +1

          @slipperypete: omg more slipperys!

        • @Slippery Fish:
Oh dear….I'm starting to get turned on here

        • @slipperypete: well best you buy me dinner first rofl.

      • I am on vodafone which suits me better in terms of international calling. 45$ 12 month unlimited calling and 10gig data.. I am in Parramatta and Vodafone is decent here

    • I'm on Optus $30/mo for the same inclusions, plus 300min international calls… Only minus is worse coverage, but I have 4G everywhere I normally travel around Sydney so no complaints.

      • Hello Gnat, how did u get this plan? Is that 300 minute to specific countries? I have same inclusions plus 300 international minutes to any country but paying 50 per month on Vodafone

        • I would like to know this too as my plan is expiring and I need a good month to month plan which includes large data and international calls. Does your unlimited SMS also include SMS to international countries?

        • +1

Optus had a sale $40 for 10GB, bundled with my cable for $10 discount

  • I was thinking on changing over to the $50 BYO plan for 5gb which is much better than 2.5gb that I was previously on. was waiting ages for them to allow exisitng customers to also get something out of this.

  • Thanks. I just stayed on the $50 BYO Plan and doubled my data.

  • Any international credit included with this plan?

    • the optus 10G plan has 300 mins international per month.

  • Any welcome credit?

  • looks like they need an select type website …… add what you want and it compares them …… sure the reps would watch it to keep up. fortunately mobile plans are more generic than health care ……. SMS is SMS no matter where it was sent from.

  • think i will stick to my optus $60 month to month plan with unlimited international calls.

    • Is all of international countries included Vietnam and Indonesia?

      • +1

Its changed now was unlimited…vietnam and indonesia are included but only 500 minutes a month now.

    • Why not with the Virgin $40 plan for the same plan and same network with rollover call and data when it was available?

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/233199

      • Already expried the promotion and the same as $300 international call :(

  • Eligible for Free Apple Music sub for 12 mnths?

    • +1

Yes it is. You select the option when checking out there order.

      • so apple music worth $12 a month? Starting to look pretty good.

Wonder if there are student discounts as well!!

  • Welcome back Trent, long time no see :)

  • +2

The way it's marketed on the Telstra website is all about 10GB of wifi data. But I assume this means 10GB of 4G data plus the ability to use Telstra air hotspots up to a combined total of 10GB?? Poorly advertised if you ask me.

    • Agree with this comment. Not a good deal if it is only 10gb of wifi data.

    • +1

It's 10gb mobile data and unlimited wifi. The hotspots will sh$& you so much you'll end up turning it off

  • +1

Saw this deal yesterday on the Telstra website but the $10 off for twelve months only put me off.

If you churn often good deal. I am still waiting for a perma deal and while I wait I will enjoy my current prepaid deal.

    Still +ve for it though.

  • +6

Personally, I wouldn't recommend this as I think that Telstra Prepaid on the Freedom Plus offer is better value:

$40 monthly recharge also gives unlimited calls and SMS/MMS to all numbers and with no contract.

The only advantage of this offer is that it includes more data (Only 6GB on the Freedom Plus offer and 3GB of that can only be used at night) The $20 per month that you're saving could be used to purchase more data in the months where you need it. Also, with the prepaid offer, your unused data gets rolled over to the next month.

A $30 recharge is likely to be sufficient for most people and save even more - unlimited calls to Telstra mobiles and $700 for calls to other mobile networks and landlines - again unused credit rolls over to the next month as well.

There might be other advantages to this plan, but IMHO, unless you're consistently using over 5.5GB of data during the day every month, I think that the prepaid offer is better value.

    • Really think this is just for people who need data.
I live in an area where I cant get Internet so am always searching for cost efficient data…..still better deals in this area but would be nice to have a better coverage being rural

    • Does this use 1MB data sessions or 10kb Data sessions?

      • As far as I recall, the sessions are measured in 1kb increments.

    • Why is the Freedom Plus prepaid $40 offer cheaper than the post paid? Obvious difference is the extra data but is there any other downside in going for the prepaid?

      • +2

I think that there is more competition in the prepaid market and there seems to be some sort of strange stigma associated prepaid services, so that might account for some of the reasons for the prepaid offering being cheaper…

A lot of people are also willing to pay more per month on post paid so that they get a "free" phone included, but obviously that doesn't count in this case.

Possible downsides are that normal recharges only last 28 days (but you can set up automatic credit card recharges and the expiry will be extended so that it automatically recharges on the same day each month) and that you're also paying in advance.

Another advantage of the prepaid offer is that it includes a reasonable amount of international call credit (which also rolls over month to month)

        More info here:
        https://www.telstra.com.au/mobile-phones/prepaid-mobiles/off…

      • Can't explain why prepaid is cheaper. Downsides to prepaid are no visual voicemail for iPhone on prepaid, no VoLTE, no memo, reduced availability for international roaming, and there are likely other features that I have forgotten that are only available on plan.

All in all, prepaid is the better option for me. Love how the credit rolls over (I will use it for roaming).

  • So it looks like apple music is included.

Anyone know whether this includes the visual voicemail thing or maybe student discount?

Sorry, not much good at finding this stuff!!!

  • -1

Looks like a good deal if you're prepared to wait 5 months to be connected, with no sign of it actually happening.

    • This … and if the infamous "Control Group" doesnt call u fraud for having 2 or more prepaid accounts under different names or address or when lazy or ignorant Telstra reps decides to create multiple accounts whenever you activate new prepaid sims.

Got caught out with multiple accounts which I had no idea how it happens in the first place, and moved state only to be flagged as fraud in their system.

Horrible signup experience … online chats and phone reps are hopeless, no clue whatsoever and u might as well record the entire conversation and replay it each time and add on the next one and wash and rinse and repeat … saves u the time and effort having to repeat what happened from the start to a clueless rep.

      —- to add

and even when u present yourself to a Telstra shop for ID verification with drivers license and utility bills, "Control Group" still wants your bank account statements and your payslips. Dang! as if u are applying for $300K of phone credits!

      • +2

The chats are pretty much useless, also you forgot the rental agreements.

  • +1

This is a great deal - if only they also had few hundred international minutes aswell!

  • +3

I was able to get four services re-contracted again with this offer.

I recently re-contracted the four services approximately three weeks ago with the $70 offer, $60 is even better now :)

    • +5

Don't worry. As long as you wear a tin foil hat they can't touch you

  • +5

And remember every few months you get a free data day when Telstra network crashes.

  • Hopefully when my 12 month Optus ($30 with 10GB) contract ends, they will have even better value.

  • 10GB = how many hours of youtube on the phone?

  • Does this apply to new customers coming onto Telstra or does it apply for existing too?

    • It worked for me as an existing customer. This is probably one of the few deals I've seen which applies to existing customers too.

  • What's the deal with the $10 free credit per month ? Would this be to use against extra charges on my account e.g international calls? I'm an iPhone user so I don't think it can be used for purchases
