Vaya is now under new management by Amaysim

To avoid any excessive charges for those who are worried and want to take up the deal, you can:

  • Use your Coles reloadable MasterCard if you're worried about being overcharged as you can put it on hold within your online login
  • As suggested by others, port out 1 week before the end of the period you have purchased so you don't get charged full price

whats this facebook you speak off :)

      • In sign up page it says: "$5 off your first bill if sign up by facebook"

  • +2

Be wary of the additional fees and charges that they have.

I never had any issues with Liveconnected in the 4 years I was with them compared with several nationwide outages and generally patchy data (even with good 4G signal) in Perth CBD that I experience with Telstra now.

However they don't seem to be in a hurry to refund my deposit. Maybe they think I will forget about it?

    • +1

You should approach the TIO with your case.

It'll be a painless, free, swift way of getting your hard earned back.

  • +1

For what it's worth (admittedly not much) I've been with Vaya for years and have never had a problem. Many others have, but not me.

Accurate accounts, no problems with phone support. Maybe I'm just lucky.

But I use so little of my calls and data, I think I'll switch to aldiMobile.

    • +2

I've switched my family members to aldimobile. Simple, painless and since its prepaid almost nothing can go wrong. The plans have been slightly upgraded to 4g now, so I would highly recommend switching over

      • +2

Thanks for your comment. I think you've sold me on aldiMobile.

  • +7

I don't care how good the deal is, avoid Vaya. No amount of savings can equal to the frustration dealing with them.

  • Hmm, if I payed $49 for the 3 months unlimited XL plan, then ported out a week earlier as suggested, is there much that can really go wrong besides potentially going over data? This looks attractive as a Uni student but I don't think I've seen this many negs so quickly :/

So does anyone know what happens to our $20 deposit..? Can we request it as a refund/credit on our account?

    • +4

They will pretend to be deaf for a while.

      • +3

Happened to me. Didn't get my $20 deposit back. I couldn't be bothered chasing after it. I was overcharged, told vaya i was leaving and wanted my deposit. Told me to pay the overcharged bill then i would get my deposit. Did that and never saw my $20 deposit ever again. Vaya aka Fakya

I don't have one good word for Vaya. Don't use them cause if you have an issue with them (you will I can guarantee) the best thing they can offer 'you don't like it, switch'

  • +3

I had 3 phones on Vaya, now just one. Multitudes of billing errors and $10 fees for "account not accessible" for direct debit to an account with plenty of cash in it put me off them. Their billing is at times akin to speculative invoicing. I ended up paying by bpay directly to avoid their other accounting fees and have to cop a $1 fee for doing that. I pulled out my main sims and have just one daughter on Vaya now. She will be out soon too.

OP should get a job with Vaya as sales rep.

  • +4

The deal is good OP, but it's obvious that their customer service has been pretty bad for a lot of people. Unfortunately there's no guarantee that being bought out will miraculously change everything too. Don't take it personally. :)

For anyone with Vaya or choosing to connect with Vaya, be vigilant with your bills and be sure to contact them to request any money that you are owed. Don't think "it's only $20 and not worth the effort" because that's what they're counting on. Try once and if you get an unreasonable response or even no response (given a reasonable amount of time to reply) go to the TIO. You can even lodge a complaint online — https://www.tio.com.au/making-a-complaint. It's easy and worth the few minutes it takes to fill out the form. Vaya also incur a fine for each complaint lodged, so it may make them take notice if a lot of people start complaining.

  • Just wanted to say I've been with Vaya for a few years now and never had any issues (touch wood)…

I have 6 phones with them all on the $18 plan and they have been great (Optus Network), I get 4G around Brisbane no trouble, no drop-outs or issues with service yet!

Given the price I'm not expecting fantastic service if/when I do run into an issues as it really is a 'budget' plan and I expect service to match (perhaps my thinking is wrong, but it's what I think).

The value is fantastic… BUT as with any company plan ahead if switching read the procedure and rules involved and you should be fine.

Most complaints I've seen over the years are due to poor turn around times on getting the SIM card (Vaya issue most likely but at times post as well… hopefully the Vaya side is fixed now!). Many complaints are also silly things that users did not read before signing up (not really Vaya's fault in my eyes but they could make it more clear I agree…)… TIP: Read the terms and check the fee's and charges they are easy reading and not all that long (shorter than Telstra's when I signed up any way, not sure how they are now)… If you do this you should be fine, or at least I have been 6 times already and only had 1 minor billing issue that Vaya fixed up (they charged me individual shipping for one of my orders when I was told they could send it together and save on shipping… phone call was about 5min and credit was provided)

I can also say I've had shocking service from Telstra before which is suppose to be premium given the bucket load more I was paying for far less.

Hope these details are of use to others… If they give you a hard time or mess any thing up, call up be calm and I'm sure they will help, if not there is always TIO but I've never had to go their with Vaya and found them rather good with my very minor freight overcharge issue)

  • i'm still on live connected.
Interesting, Vaya bought out live connected.
    Now, Amaysim bought out Vaya.

Vaya is now under new management by Amaysim. So please ignore the negative comments in regards to the older management.

EC, are you promoting vaya here? If so, you should post it as store rep.

    • +7

No. EC is promoting groupon to get referral credit.

      • referral credit is for new groupon accounts. I guess all OzBargainers already have 1 account ^-^

  • +3

People on Whirlpool still say there is problems under new Amaysim management with regards to deposits and fees. I'd pay $2 more than Vaya's 18 Power Plan to go on ALDI for the same inclusions but Telstra network (much better imho) instead.

  • This deal can be used for existing customers, right? I can't see anything saying it can't in the t&c or fine print..

    • Have you tried it on existing account?
they updated the "my account webpage" allowing code (not from previous)

      • No, I didn't buy it because I was afraid it might go to waste if it didn't work.

        • +1

Thanks, i emailed Vaya - no response from them

  • damn!! I missed it yesterday, now have to buy it without the discount code

  • There are other options out there better than dealing with this dodgy company. Once you lose trust, it will be very hard to gain trust back. Kogan Mobile has promo for $9 unlimited plan which is cheaper than this deal anyway.

  • +2

Also downvoting the deal thanks to the horrible experience I had with Vaya. New management or not, I don't understand why Amaysim don't just ditch the Vaya brand because it is clearly so toxic (particularly given their $20 security deposit fiasco).

    • They shouldn't have acquired it but they only acquired it a couple of months back so they should rebrand it and fix the customer service.

  • +1

Has anyone seen the ACCC ruling on Vaya last month ?
    https://www.accc.gov.au/media-release/vaya-responds-to-accc-…

    /from accc website/
The ACCC formed the view that Vaya’s Plan Freeze Fee email was likely to be misleading because it represented that consumers were required to pay extra fees, when in fact, under their contracts rates were fixed. The ACCC also considered that Vaya’s Security Deposit email was also likely to be misleading as it failed to inform consumers of their rights of termination under Vaya’s terms and conditions and Vaya’s obligations under the Telecommunications Consumer Protection Code (TCP Code).

Vaya took a number of steps to address these concerns:

Vaya refunded all customers who were incorrectly charged the Plan Freeze Fee.
Vaya informed customers who complained about the Security Deposit and Plan Freeze Fee of their right to terminate their contracts without penalty.
Vaya committed to improving the transparency of its customer communications and advertising.

So has anyone been refunded the Plan Freeze Fee?

amaysim may have bought themselves a sinking ship !!!

  • I had a terrible experience with vaya only for the first month and bolted off to amaysim. Didn't know amaysim acquired vaya. Horrible service and thieves at stealing money and not refunding. Website and app was awfully outdated… man i hate vaya

  • +1

Its all about expectation. Many of those who are unhappy with Vaya are people who expect the same service but still expect to pay far less than Voda/Optus/Telstra.

Vaya has ALWAYS been a budget service. They save on cost with overseas call centres that have poorly trained staff and IT systems. When they came on the scene in 2012, they had a smaller more manageable customer base but their infrastructure has not kept up with the large customer base over the past 2 years.

I was with them since 2013, and the issues I faced were usually minor technical errors in billing and barring, and only occurred 1-2 times a year. And the $1000+ I saved was well worth the 10-15 minutes on the phone each year. And they refunded me the $20 security deposit and the remainder of the last month when I ported out. Took 5 minutes (Tip - Always less waiting time when calling between 1-4pm as its day time in the asian call centres. Don't bother with emailing). I only moved earlier this year because Jeenee mobile had a better low cost unlimited plan. However I have about 20 friends/family still on the service still, and they are all happy with it because they were warned and understood that they may have to call every so often.

Don't be put off by the negative votes, Vaya is still a great option. That being said, there are now more budget mobile options than there were 3 years ago. Many of which will have better customer service as their customer base is smaller, and with arguably better trained staff and IT systems. Shop around…
    - Telstra Network - Aldi, Telechoice, CMobile, Boost
    - Optus Network - Jeenee, TPG, iiNet, Dodo, Amaysim, Spintel
    - Vodafone Network - Kogan, Think Mobile

Vaya randomly charged me $20 for no reason…. no more vaya pls woudnt even go on it if it was offered to me free

  • +1

If signed up through facebook account, how to secure $5 discount for the first bill along with this offer?

  • +2

I never realised other people were also being overcharged. I went through that issue for several months with them and my partners account. For some reason no matter what we did with her phone usage as well as the wifi etc, her account always seemed to go over and she always seemed to get charged extra and it was not heaps bout 10-30$ every month is annoying when the initial plan was 18$.. She didnt use it for much and still kept going over, we just could not work it out. This seems to make sense now.

  • +1

Thanks to OB, they just initiated Live Chat on Vaya website!! Hahaha

    ATTENTION:
    from live chat CSR:

After you finish the application, we will be doing a trial debit using credit/debit card.
We have the first month in advance and the $20.00 Mobile pre payment that will be refunded back to you

I guess $20 deposit is still needed, unlike what OP mentioned in the post, am I right?!

  • +4

Passively ignored my emails for a refund after porting out. Called them and got hung up twice, one of the seedier providers around.

  • Taking the plunge hopefully I don't get analed

    • Let us know of your experience. Is the Sim card delivered yet ?

      • Sim card was next day express post. As much as I disliked Vaya I'm going in on a clean slate. Their new plans are great.

        • Thanks for your reply. Did they take $20 deposit from the credit card ?. How long did they porting take ?

        • @Arsi: No deposit has been charged to my CC….yet. I'll let you know if it happens however it would be illegal as it wasn't explicitly stated.

Porting takes 24-36 hours when porting from Optus. If you want a 30min-2 hour port you can port to a prepaid voda/telstra sim and then port to Vaya.

        • @Arsi: Fully ported now, customer service drastically improved too.

        • @machej:
thanks for sharing the experience, have you got charged for the security deposit yet?

  • 16 Negs simply discouraged me to buy this nice deal!

  • What happened to the $20 security deposit?

Do we get this back? Or does this still exist?

  • Can existing customers prepay more than 3 months in advance?

  • Expired now

  • Is anyone's account going into credit? I think Vaya made a mistake stacking 2 deals. (intro discount means the $18 plan costs $15)

$15 - $18 credit adjustment = $3 credit. This may be the one time Vaya makes a mistake and it ends up benefiting the customer.
