  • Bloody hell… big enough to start running your own home cinema!

    • +2

Having had this TV for a while, I'd say it's not big enough. 85 is okay size. Hahah

      • +3

I agree. I am too used to my 75' now and it doesn't really seem that big anymore. I guess it is what you get used to.

    • Small TV? Just sit closer :-)

    • A projector owner would be insulted by this comment

      • +4

That's okay just open the blinds and they go scurrying before they start disintegrating in the sunlight.

      • what size screen do you think its worth getting a projector for

  • +1

Hope to see this TV on Sony website this Xmas for 1/2 price!!

  • What does C&C mean?

  • 2016 model doesn't support 3D?

By the looks of it the 75X8500C supports 3D but not HDR whilst the 75X8500D supports HDR but not 3D.

    • +3

HDR is now supported in KD75X8500C with the latest firmware update

      • Thanks guys. Was just going off the spec sheet on the Sony website. The only 2016 models that support 3D are the premium models, and for some stupid reason those models omit the standard VESA mounts necessitating the purchase of the $50 adapter.
Such a mess to have standard features changing between models like that.

Edit: And apparently according to rtings the input lag of one of the 2016 premium models (X930D) is over 50ms. What the hell is going on with Sony's TVs?

        • Do you use 3D heavily or just feel satisfied for having it? I've never used the 3D function ever since purchased the TV. My computer monitor has 3D, which I didn't use it either.

        • +4

          @AussieGargain:
If a Blu-Ray that I want has a 3D version I always buy it over the standard. I know it's niche but I do watch 3D movies when I can.

        • @fatpizza: I can understand, so I think 850c is the one to go. 850D does not have much update anyway.

    • Also 2015 model has Direct lit (full-array) backlighting but the new one is unfortunately Edge-lit

  • +1

I'm waiting for this to go down to $2500-2900 as my trigger. We'll see if it gets there.

    • Good luck on that. People have hair trigger @ $3600.

      • +2

One can hope. The 65" is going for $2500 at the moment which I almost bought but imo $1500 difference between the 65 and 75 is a little too much. Not in a rush so we'll see.

        • Upvote for your determination hoping you could get one with that price.

    • need ppl with 65inch screens to want 80-85inch screens lolll so we can move to this

  • What's the menu system like? All the sonys I have (cheapie to mid range smart TV's) have significant delays in remote control response times. A bit annoying.

    • It's improved since launch with many updates, still buggy as hell though and I wouldn't call it snappy either.

      • +2

What annoys me to no end is when it processes the number presses late - I try to get channel 22, I think it's not picked it up, try again, and it tells me 222 does not exist.

          You 2 !?

Back 10 years ago did we normally spend $4k for a tv?

    • when plasma was released? :)

      • +1

I can remember when there was a 60" LG Standard Def Plasma what was 10k….

      • Yep - Spent $4.5k on a 42" Humax Plasma, bit more than 10 years ago though.

    • 8-10 years ago 42" standard def LG plasmas were all the rage.

Cheap as chips for $3500-4000 then lol.

Is 4k/UHD TV really worthwhile in Australia?
I heard that there is no 4K content TV aired in Australia.
Is the 4k content coming to Australia soon?
Struggle to see the point to buy a 4K TV but cannot use the 4K capability

    • +2

Netflix has got some 4K content. And upscaling to 4K in this is TV is pretty good, especially when it's Full HD.

    • I don't know about you, but if I bought a $4k TV I expect it to last a while… and I expect over the next while that the availability and amount of 4k content will increase. UHD blu ray is just around the corner…

  • Bought the 65 inch model (KD65X9000B) last year for the same price.
But it has integrated speakers and woofers though.

    • whats the sound like?

      • Sound is really amazing given the size of them.
I have a large living area and still feels quite Loud and clear.
And the speakers are made of something called magnetic fluid straight from NASA which is used in space shuttles.
Bass is really deep too. Definitely recommend it

  • Bought this for $3599 from Harvey Norman around Boxing day sales. Great picture quality and sound is good but can be better. OS is not as snappy as I thought

  • sold out by the looks of it.

  • Getting mine delivered tomorrow

    • So how is the unit? And the sound?

  • Exceptional unit.. Managed to pick the Samsung k8500 for $452 and uhd HDR looks amazing.

  • My 75x850c screen is dead. Sony has to send a technician to replace the screen.
