    Professionals at it again…

    • +1

      Wow, a True OzBargainer! :D

    • Do you have any mortgages?

      • +18

        One for each Amex card

        • +6

One for the dog too and my imagine friend

        • +3

          @Turd:
          And one for the country.

          Thank peter Costello.

        • +1

          @Turd:
What do u put as the DOB or identification?
I've got supplementaries for my family, but forgot about the two dogs and bird.

    • And they are not impacting your loan (if you need one) application?

      • +14

Impacting? Probably doesn't need to apply for a home loan. His credit cards are his home loan!

      • Most lenders will ask for the credit limit of all cards, then work out how much you would need to pay to service those cards if they were maxxed (IIRC).

        So yes, yes they would.

    • lmao dedication
still working at the same place?

      • +2

        LOL yep

    • that's great!

    • Looks like Last time Keepcup was also on shopsmall even though it's an online order http://www.perthhacks.com/2013/11/amex-rewarding-small-busin…

      • Do keep cup charge postage?

    • I have read the term and conditions.
Limited to three (3) credits per Card Member, with no more than one credit per Merchant location.

Are you going to 3 different locations in order to do this?

      • Yes

        • As it is on the weekend it is hardly able to find 3 different place to top up opal

        • @LoveBargain15: Sydney CBD has many stores within walking space of each other.

    • You guys with the multi-card trick are you using AMEX issued AMEX cards or AMEX compliant, like the ANZ one?
I've got the red Velocity Escape, the only other feeless ones I can see on the AMEX site are the ESSENTIAL (Black and white) and the Quantas (blue)
      https://www.americanexpress.com/au/content/frequent-flyer-ca… <- NOT A REFERRAL LINK

Can I get those other 2 and still do this? Do they have to be tied or untied to my normal AMEX acct?

      • +2

I think for AMEX AMEX, you are allowed two brands of their cards.

As for NAB AMEX, or ANZ AMEX, or CBA AMEX, or <Insert Bank> AMEX you can have as many as you require I think it's 1 product per company but.

Also AMEX AMEX allow up to 4 supplementaries cards on the main account, most <Insert Bank> AMEX supplementries are the same number, just different name.

        • So I imagine a supplementary wouldn't be as good as a proper card then? For the deals like this?
I may need to at least apply for one more AMEX AMEX - are any of the NAB / ANZ / CBA ones feeless? I refuse to use feed cards
          Thanks.

        • @hamwhisperer: Not sure, just go to each bank website and check it out.

        • @hamwhisperer:
A supplementary Bank issued amex wont be as good as a the amex issued.
The card number will be the same, which means you can only enrol in this once.

        • @mmd: Do you know any more info on running multiple regular AMEXs? I'd prefer to stick with AMEX AMEX. Can I just apply for the Quantus one and be done with it ?

        • -1

          @hamwhisperer:
No, I dont see why you can't have more than one. It might affect your borrowing capacity when you get a mortgage. They AMEX might query why you are doing it.
Alternatively, get your partner/family member to sign up to AMEX AMEX?
Then between the two of you, you can theoretically have up to 10 cards =(1 card + 4 supps)x2.

        • @mmd: Nah just me - maybe they'll process it regardless - anyone else got one?
I know they don't do an income check. My first one was 17k limit and I just said a job and I don't (I'm good for the money, I have some… quite reasonable credit history and very reasonable cash reserves)

  • WOW, early this year!

  • +6

    I love shop small! :D

Last time I just used my Amex whenever I went out and happily stumbled across a few I didn't even see in the (admittedly very horrible) business finder map.

    • +1

Last year i specifically made a list and then didn't get credit for one. Contacted amex through the shop small website and was ignored. So i guess we had differing experiences. Won't be shopping at hairhouse warehouse this year.

      • +7

I wrote to AMEX and they credited me

      • +7

Yeah I went to a place that was on the list, didn't take amex, and amex credited me for using my mastercard. From what I've experienced their service is 10/10.

    • where can you use this offer?

some people are saying OPAl card recharge…how does that work

      • Go to a inconvenient store (pref in the cbd) because there are like so many close by, recharge opal and pay using amex. Because they are a small shop the offer will allow it.

Only works if they are part of the small shop business.

        However surcharges may apply.

      • As Turd said, convenience store and yeah, pretty much all of them will charge a surcharge. If you hit three though you'll save quite a bit on your topups.

  • +1

just for a weekend? not enough to bump my opal card up…
    time for more amex cards.

    • Yeah, weekday is much better - can hit a few places in the CBD. Don't know if I want to make a trip into the CBD just for that though, especially as I mostly ride my bike to work during the week and never hit free journey.

      • +2

do on sunday then, only cost $2.50

        • Yeah and I'll catch the ferry. :D So much value!!!

  • -6

Do i need to register for this ?

the link is not working for me.

    • +2

Register on the 10th May :)

    • -1

Just added a free sup to my free platinum edge. 4 cards then :)

looking forward to some 50% opal. Never realized that hack before!

      • Dont forget the $2 or $3 fee they charge.

        • Who charge? The smaller retailers? Oh yeh i forget about that cos i never use amex if there's a fee

        • +2

@CheapskateQueen: The small retailers saying there is a "fee" it is really bull shit, because they just want extra money for doing nothing, dodgy (profanity)

        • Tell Amex and they will credit you.

        • +1

          @wxyz234:
Have you tried to ask Amex for refund?

Also will they specify the fee before you pay?

        • +1

@LoveBargain15: yes they refunded surcharge. Yes.

        • +1

@Turd: Except for the higher merchant service fees that Amex charges, maybe?

But you're half right. Where it's BS is when the retailer charges significantly more than the merchant service fee and turn it into a revenue stream.

          http://www.creditcardfinder.com.au/where-does-my-money-go-in…

      • So which shop you can recharge your opal?

      • +1

How do you get a free Platinum Edge?

        • First year annual fee waived with Priceline AMEX promo

        • @illumination:

Ah ok. I thought they meant free forever.

      • How is this relevant to LoveBargain15's comment? (i.e. why is this a reply to that comment?)

        • petty OzBargainers negging for what reason? ppft.

        • @CheapskateQueen: For what reason? I gave you the reason lol.
It's a totally irrelevant comment and it seems like you just replied to that to give your comment more visibility.

  • damn it I can't do it during work hours!!!

  • Time to get those new card applications in:
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/american_express_referrals

    • +1

Why apply for new ones when you can get supplementary ones

      • bonus points

        • But you might get rejected?

Suppose ok if you have one and get another one.

      • Can I ask What are the requirements for a supplementary card? Do you need to provide ID for the family members like the Coles Mastercard or just call up to ask for one? L

        • Depends on them, but I htink you need to provide ID for some.

        • @Turd: thanks. I'm on the Amex essential card. Will ring them up

        • +1

@Jared17: hey, can you share what the outcome is ?

        • @spk:sure. I ended up apply ing myself online. It's quite easy. They only need the birthday and licence no.

  • -1

    I have only 3 Amex cards :(

    • Order more for your wife, girlfriend, boyfriend, husband, baby, sister, brother, mother, father, dog, cat, the sexy girl next door, the sexy guy next door.!??

  • +2

time to use that reminder function :)

if only their shop search was better

  • +6

OH DAMN, Just a reminder that its only 3 transaction per card and not 10 like previous times.

  • Sweet I will wait before cancelling my 2nd AMEX. Might have to sign up for another one today.

  • Any good places to top up OPAL in Sydney CBD using AMEX?

  • +5

FYI The shop search is quite outdated. Last year I tried to use it in 2 restaurants and both of them did not accept AMEX. However, when I alerted AMEX, they were quick to give me the cashback so if it happens to you let AMEX know and they'll give you the cashback.

    • as in the entire cashback for the transaction?

      • +1

No the $10. Same thing happened to me.

    • So you got cash back for the two restaurant visits even though you ended up paying with a non amex card?

  • -3

Where do you register? Can't find a link or do we wait closer to the date?

    • +3

AmEx Shop Small Weekend (Spend $20 and Receive $10 Credit) - 14-15/05, Registration Opens 10/05

      • +1

        Thanks. I didn't read properly :D

  • +1

it should really say "Then repeat up to two times*!" on the website.

  • Does anyone know any place to top up Myki in CBD?

    • Elizabeth Pharmacy corner little collins and elizabeth

      • Thanks!!

      • seems that Elizabeth Pharmacy is no longer on the map

  • +1

3 AMEX Cards, that's $180 worth of Myki top ups for $90

    winning

    • I have a few places in mind for myki topups on weekends.
Dig them out of 2015 small shop amex deals.

I need 4 stores to accept amex and myki topups on weekends.

    • +1

any locations in melb u would recommend topping up the Myki?
      cheers

  • Yes! 3x3 transactions for me. But what to buy?
    3x prepaid coffee cards
    1x breakfast

    • I ended up with 2x prepaid coffee cards, 1x breakfast, and 6x booze.

  • Is David Jones AmEx eligible for that promotion please?

    • No, they arent a small shop business. Try your local cafe or local expensive inconvenient store

      • +3

I think he menat whether the DJs AMEX card is eligible. It should be (I'm hoping so as it's the only AMEX I own)

        • +3

          ahh got ya.

yes it is, DJ Amex, NAB Amex, CBA Amex, Insertbank Amex as long as you register.

        • All Australian issued AMEX will qualify for this Shop Small promo.
I have 3, Westpac, ANZ and AMEX ready to go.

        • I just went through T&C.. and DJ AMEX was explicitly mentioned, not eligible. Anyway, just log in and try, if you can register for the promotion, then you are good to go.
