  • Just enrolled with my 3 + 3 (supplementary) cards.

    • Thanks Doctor.

  • the 3 limits, are they can be all 3 from one shop or 1 per small shop and maximum 3 different shops?

    • +1

The later - 1 per shop location (maximum of 3 shops per card)

Limited to three (3) statement credits per Card Member, with no more than one statement credit per Merchant location.

    • +1

One redemption per shop. So you'll need to visit a minimum of three participating retailers to make maximum benefit of this offer.

      • One redemption per shop
thats a very clear one thanks

        • I meant one redemption per shop retailer.

  • This isn't the one which will get me Myki money again is it?

    • Yep that's it.

      • Can someone explain to me the Myki thingy?

        • +1

All you do is find a participating newsagent, then go and top your myki with a minimum of $20. You'll receive the full top-up amount but you'll be charged $10 less on your AMEX statement. More correctly, you'll receive a $10 rebate, but same thing.

Some newsagents might apply a surcharge of up to $1, but in those cases you'll still be $9 ahead.

  • In Sydney, it appears there isn't many places to top up Opal.

Mostly restaurant offers. Kinokuniya book store near Townhall is there.

anyone know if MAX DISCOUNT PHARMARCY pitt st accepts Opal top up ?

    • -1

I think all the inconvenient stores were banned because of the extra surcharging they were charging.

  • +1

So disappointed with this deal, no petrol station, no myki and only for 2 days.

    • Who said no myki?

      • Where is it?
At least not around my area :(
        Happy to be proved wrong

        • Where are you?

  • Wow. Even Coffs harbour has places this time.

  • Wow just realised is only 14th and 15th 2 days!

  • So can both my and my wife's supplementary card be used for 3 each?

    • If different numbers then yes

  • Yep warning opal stores are like zero! No point!!

    • it might still work. For shop small you never know till you try, I have got credits at many places in previous promotions even though they were not in map or has something changed this time round which i missed?

      • This time around, a lot of retailers have been omitted from the map.

    • if you're in the city, the lucky charm newsagencies are still on the map, but from previous experience they had a huge surcharge

  • Any myki places open on the weekend?

    • Some are, some aren't. You'll have to contact the store directly.

  • hmm pretty sure they'll be the same

    • The same as?

  • +1

Dang. Didn't notice it was only once per merchant. I was lining up to go to my favourite burger place 3 times over the weekend.

    • Get multiple card numbers!!!

      • Yeah I need to get some supplementary cards for offers like this!

  • Registered

  • Wait where are you guys seeing Myki?

    • +1

Some of the CBD stores do a Myki recharge.

      • Done! Will be shopping around for those. Thanks

      • +2

which stores? many from last year were removed from the map

        • -2

There are plenty there. You'll have to poke around a bit to find them.

  • Cannot find a single place to top up Opal on this map! Pointless!!

    • -1

I find some on the map, search top up location from here

      • -1

        LOL ^

        • I did use that site to look for them as well. If wanting to help it would have been much more useful if you listed some shops instead.

        • +1

@noskich: I didnt find any shops and gave up.

        • @Turd:
Not you, I meant the wise guy above you.

        • -1

@noskich: ahhh yeah I think AMEX stopped all the inconvenient stores because they were being dodgy, with their surcharges.

        • -2

          @Turd:

Isn't it we can claim the surcharge with Amex?

        • +1

@LoveBargain15: Yes but if enough people claim, wouldnt it be logical for AMEX to go 'oohh shiiiit this provider is doing these things…" BAM BANhammer.

      • I have done the run today and here is the address for three stores in Parramatta.

NSW Convinence 253 Church Street & 119a Macquaire Street $1 surcharge
EzyMart 18 Smith Street NO surcharge

  • -1

I don't have a American Express card, how do I sign up for one?

  • To receive the $10, can I make $20 purchases at ANY store or only the listed MERCHANT stores?

Also, with the $10 credit, can I redeem it at ANY store or only the listed MERCHANT stores?

    • Only shop from this map

      • -3

Really? So what's all this hype about? It is only 33% off some a limited range of random stores which are likely to be marked up anyway.

        • +1

33% where is your calculation coming from? you are getting half price if you spend exactly $20 or not surcharge applied.

You first spend $20 and Amex will give you back $10 credit that is to say you only need to pay $10 for $20 of good or service.

        • @LoveBargain15:

Oh right I see, I thought the $10 needs to be redeemed at a merchant store too.

        • @brainactive:

NO redeem necessary if the shop and your card registered then it will automatic send the credit back to you.

    • That list was for the last Nov offer. Just a warning that some of thoses shops are no longer on the map.

Check here for places that top up MYKI in your local area. Then check if the shop is on the small shop map.

      • -2

        Unless I'm doing that wrong…

Otherwise, no pharmacy, no convenience, no lotto, no news/-agency, no 7-eleven and etc….on the amex shop small map.
        Hence…no myki in the city……Or2

Correction: Almost no myki actually the whole Melbourne…

        Worst shop small ever!

        • There are heaps of places on there that do MYKI and lotto. You just need to spend some time comparing the myki map with the amex map. It's easy if you type the company name into the amex map.

  • +1

In previous Shop Small campaigns, the eligibility of shops wasn't necessarily by the map listings, but any business that fits into the eligibility criteria (less than $2m turnover and processed at least 1 Amex transaction in the previous 6 months). Has this changed?

    • I dont think Rips and Rumps had less than $2M turnover

      • Amex only turnover I'm guessing… there's no way for Amex to know their entire business turnover.

    • It's $1.3m maximum amex transactions in the last 12 months.
And 1 amex transaction minimum in the 3 months of dec, jan, feb

  • Thanks, enrolled both my cards today.

  • what's a good buy for those in Perth?

sounds like buying something at the chemist would probably be the best deal at half price.

    • +1

That's what I did in November - I think 6 of my 10 purchases were from chemists LOL. You can often find specials such as Kleenex toilet paper, toothpaste (especially AIM, which we use), soap, razors etc - they're not usually quite as good a price as Coles/Woolies specials but if you just spend $20 (or a tiny bit over), with the $10 credit you're getting everything for half the discounted price, so can't beat that. I got a few pharmacy products as well - mainly eye drops/gel (for "dry eye" after laser eye surgery). At the pharmacies I went to, the normal price was usually a bit dearer, say, Chemist Warehouse, but if you're getting it half-price then it's a lot cheaper than I could ever get at the discount pharmacies anyway (as these are items that are never on special) and I have to drive an extra 15 minutes to get to the nearest CW anyway..

I went to 3 local pharmacies (2 Optimal and 1 Wizard Pharmacy) that were on the map, and then when I was at Joondalup, I hit all 3 Wizard Pharmacies in Lakeside as they were all participating and stocked up on their specials. Unfortunately our nearest Wizard pharmacy isn't participating this time :( - actually I've noticed a number of stores that were on the map in November aren't showing up for this promotion.

      • Wizard Pharmacy in Garden City now add surcharge for using AMEX, which is quite unfortunate. But just wondering whether there are any good place to use this AMEX offer in Perth. Some of the places listed (restaurant) don't accept AMEX when I call, so that's kinda a let down as well.

        • I would try www.discountdrugstores

          Colgate Toothpaste Total 110g $2.49
Kleenex Cottonelle Toilet Paper White 16 Pack $7
Kleenex Viva Paper Towel Twin Pack $2.5
Radiant Whites Laundry Powder 500g $2
Palmolive Foaming Hand Wash Antibacterial 250ml $2.5

          http://www.discountdrugstores.com.au/catalogue/

        • +1

@thydzik: Some Discount Drug Stores don't take Amex - our closest one (Warwick) doesn't but I notice the Innaloo store is on the map so I guess they do?

ETA: Hurray - I see our nearest Wizard Pharmacy IS participating this time. I just tried searching "Pharmacy" again, they didn't appear on the map yesterday but now they do! Good heavens, this map and the associated search feature is absolutely atrocious - it seems to get worse each year!

        • @SimbaGirl:
Totally agree, the map is useless.
Do u know what toilet paper brand they sell at those pharmacies? I'm a converted Quilton person

        • @mmd: I think Wizard Pharmacy have Quilton, but it tends to vary with pharmacies - usually either Sorbent, Kleenex Cottonelle or sometimes Quilton.

        • +1

@mmd: I was just in Wizard Pharmacy this morning and they definitely have Quilton :)

        • @SimbaGirl:
You have literally saved our asses, lol!
We don't have much left from the woolies sale in 2014

It worked out to be 26.05 cents per roll (with the amex surcharge which I hopefully can get back), which I am stoked to pay.

        • @mmd: Glad to hear I was able to come to the rescue LOL. Surprised you were hit with a surcharge though - none of the Wizard Pharmacies I've used during the Shop Small promotions (Joondalup and Girrawheen) had a surcharge for using Amex.

    • -1

Ha anyone seen a computer store come up? I'm looking for a new modem.

  • Is this deal stackable with Apple Pay?

    • What is the Apple Pay deal? As long as you are using AMEX at participating stores, it should credit back the $10 I guess.

  • Sadly petrol outlets gone.
still good for go card top ups

    • +1

I'll probably do a test hit at a previously eligible servo and see what happens.

      • I wouldn't be holding my breath if the retailer isn't on the map…

      • Has anyone tried this yet?

  • Edited.

    • Edited.

  • -4

Has anyone got a list of the shops?

    • nope

    • Check the map in the link. They're all there.

  • Will there be surcharge for using AMEX is some shops that are part of the promo?

    • Some shops may apply a surcharge, even if AMEX disallows or discourages the practice.

Some people have attempted to have this surcharge later credited by calling AMEX directly, with varying degrees of success.

Anyone know on myki topup places in Melbourne cbd that I can use for this deal?

    • Check the map in the link.

      • Doesn't really tell you on the map dude.

        • -2

This isnt really for topping up myki too you know. It's for small business to get more customers.

        • @Turd: well for some of us when this deal comes on, we like to topup our myki with it.

        • @99altezza: I would like to top up opal as well. But I looked for the stores I went to last time on that map link and they were gone. You can probably do the same?

        • @Turd: All gone dude.

        • @99altezza: YEP so probably not in the deal but you can try on the weekend.

  • Seems to be a lot of small businesses on the map in my area. Even the pizza shop around the corner is on it. Going to live it up this weekend with 4 cards to spend on.
