These actually work I have seen people walk up to the door and look then walk away.

    • I have an acquaintance who is a d2d salesman and he actively looks for these (he's paid the same whether he sells or not)

      • +5

        He actively looks for stickers?

Does he walk away or does he knock? or does he collect these stickers?

        • +1

or does he carries these in his pockets and sticks himself if there isn't one already on the door.. cuse he is not on commission.

        • -5

Bring out the tin foil hats everyone!

        • No he just goes and bothers the people with them. I don't expect hell be doing this job long. It's for solar panels I think.

        • +1

          @Where's_That_Cake:

I would, without exaggeration, answer the door with a cricket bat, and ask him how fast he can run.

        • +2

          @Where's_That_Cake:
He sounds like a dhickhead who wont last long. Still plenty of Aussies happy to tell him to f off.

        • +1

          @Where's_That_Cake:

Interesting. I have a 'Do not knock' sticker and I've had 2 different sales people, both from solar panel companies knock on my door in the past 6 months.

When I point out the sticker, they reply "Oh, it's ok I'm not selling anything! I'm just setting up appointments…"

      • +2

I had one on the door of my previous house, but the charity beggars still came and bothered me (shift worker, often sleep late). Some of them tried their luck arguing when it was pointed out that the laws of common sense dictated that a person with a DNK sticker probably wouldn't want to be bothered, regardless whether they were selling a product, a service or a sense of self worth (charity donation). I didn't enjoy getting woken up to a knock at the door after a night shift but sternly directing someone to "get off my property" is somewhat satisfying.

There's always the "Seinfeld telemarketing trick" that can be deployed against the idiots who think D2D pestering actually counts as a job.

    • Yeah, because of the design of our house I can hear people approaching the front door and I've been surprised at how many have just turned around and left when they've seen the sticker. It's been great.

    • It seems that ignoring the 'do not knock' has a fine for the company up to 50k. http://donotknock.org.au/useful-stuff/legal-status-of-the-do…

  • thanks

  • Thanks MM.
I have one from last time and in my area it works some of the time.
    Definitely helps.

    • I am unsure if it covers charity or NGOs but if they are sales people they shouldn't knock or their company faces hefty fines.

      • Yeah they do though, its often backpackers spruiking some or other nonsense.
I don't mind charities at all.

        • I don't mind them either, but I'm finding that around here, I am now getting nobody annoying me at dinnertime. Its all good.

      • +11

Doesn’t stop charity workers. Only makes them worse when you point it out and they give you a 15 min spiel about how legally it doesn’t apply to them. And I assure them that the next few swear words and a door slam in their face is legally applicable to them.

  • +8

Warning: These stickers do not work for AGL knockers themselves

    • Must be some extra, extra small fine print hidden that says it doesn't apply to them.

      • They look at these stickers and laugh, "we made this", then continue to knock!

      • WRONG! It is clearly stated…on the sticky end.

    • +3

Unless they've started again, AGL stopped doorknocking back in 2013.

      • did they? I remember they knocked on my door not very long ago or I could be mistaken with another provider.

        • Yes AGL have stopped door knocking the last time I checked.

        • AGL stopped knocking doors a few years back after a hefty fine.

  • +10

AGL just don't want people on their standard tariffs being shown discounted rates haha.

    • Well, it's an effective strategy. I don't mind however.

    • As the default provider AGL would much rather keep pensioners, the mentally ill, single mothers with no time on their hands due to minimum wage conditions and 3 kids etc. on their electricity which is the most expensive in the state.

Their default rate structure is outrageous and impossible to compare without hours of "what if" calculations - get this: 4 different tariffs.

Privatisation failing to do anything but screw people as usual, the least able to defend against it the most.

  • "No sales people"… what about charities knocking on doors asking for donations or selling their book vouchers.

    • +1

      Charities still knock

      • +2

And they'll continue to get quote: "F*** off because you've already wasted by time by forcing me to the front door. Get off my property you ****.

        • +2

Most of the time, I just check the door camera, see it's not a deliveryman or family member, and just ignore them. They leave after a minute or two.

      • With regard to phone calls, since the election is almost upon us, under the legislation, charities and political canvassing is permitted even with the do not call listing.
Link to printable PDF version from the ACCC, which looks more official.

  • Could anyone please let me know if there is any site where I could compare electricity and gas tariffs?
    Ta

      • been there done that :)
Looking for one that is neither limited nor biased :)

        • So, what you want is one that covers every single supplier in Australia and doesn’t accept money from any supplier to push their product and all of this in the one place?

          Good luck.

        • +2

          @pegaxs:

          Yes
          And its not too hard
I found one that is independent and covers every provider in my state :)

          https://compare.switchon.vic.gov.au/welcome

          Google is your friend ;)
You might find something for your state too :)

        • @docians: if it wasn't hard, you shouldn't have asked at the first place. At least you took @pegaxs advise and google yourself.

        • +2

Seriously? @Docians asked if anyone knew any recommended sites to compare those types of prices (which is common for other types of good, staticice etc), obviously designed for people to respond to with their experience/things they have found, which is the entire point of an internet forum.

It was a very fair question, that there might be new or less well known options for.

Why would some one comment if they didnt have a suggestion in mind, and tell them to google it?

        • Look for sites with a '.gov.au' suffix for your state.

Same when it comes to comparing health insurance

        • @mcp2kpro:

you shouldn't have asked at the first place

Why not? It's a public forum. Anyone can ask whatever they please. Everyone needs to run their questions by you first do they?

        • @Wonderman: like you said, it wasnt hard and the answer is on google. Then why bother asking and then answer your own question. It'd be quicker if you do the search yourself before go ask other people. Make sense really..

        • @Wonderman:

          don't feed the troll mate

      • thank you Land of Smeg

  • +2

Thanks OP, I have a similar sticker that's very faded now.
It simply says "no door knockers" so when I replace it I won't be able to gruffly answer the door every time a friend is there now with "can't you bloody read!?"
Sorry, being able to straight faced tell dad jokes is the only reason I had kids…

  • +2

Thanks. Would be nice if it got rid of the overly friendly religious nutters who seem to door knock every month at my place.

  • +1

It work with "good person".I seen people then walk away when them see this stickers .

    • it Not work with "silly person" because this stickers say "Do Not Knock" well them not Knock door, but them keep push bell button. It happen to me
    • Was there a flaming bag of dog poop on your doorstep by any chance?

      • I not try yet,you try first let me know if it work, thanks mate lol. :S

  • Actually I have one near my door and it stopped some JW's. I heard the gate and saw them come up the path and watched them walk up and read the sticker then they turned and left. IDK if it works every time or it's standard and they've been told not to knock if they see the sticker - maybe these one saw it and decided to be respectful which I thought was nice. Mine is just a No Door to Door Traders one. Actually just checked and I have 2 - the other one says "Do Not Knock. Unsolicited door-to-door selling is not welcome here".

This was a while back and I'm not sure if they've done their rounds again since but I haven't seen them to know if it works with a different person (of the same religion). We have a large community of JW's here. Only ever see Mormons about once every 10 years and not since I've had these stickers.

  • +2

If only these would work on my kids.

    • If only these would work on my kids.

LOL "Mummy & Daddy need some alone time…."

    • They'd peel off after sweating.

  • thanks OP

  • +1

We need to make it more clear. It should read "Electricity salesmen or religious knockers will be shot. No warning shots."

    • My neighbour has this written on his glass door with red lipstick. It says a bunch of other stuff but I'm not game to get close enough to read it all.

  • I AM the one who knocks!

  • Ta op

  • Does it still work if I got a door bell? Hahaha

So effectively AGL knocks all the doors and steals all the customers. Now they got caught for the dodgy practice they give out free stickers so other companies can't steal their customers whom they stole in the first place.

Don't know about you but it sure sounds legit to me.

    • No such thing as stole.

      • ??

I'm a simple fella living a simple life.

        • you know what i mean…

  • Blasphemy!

  • +2

Do they have a "Don't Come Knocking If This Van's Rocking" sticker?

  • +1

I've had some sales person try to rip the sticker off my door. Came home one day to see a quarter of the sticker gone. Luckily I have 4 more.

    • Aggressive sales techniques may have work in the 70s. Definitely not now with the internet and us consumers doing our research prior to buying items.

    • I had a lady come door knocking for some company despite my sign requesting her not to.

I gave her the benefit of the doubt, maybe she's vision impaired and didn't see it. I politely pointed out that I in fact had a sign up and aren't interested in door-to-door salespeople. She got all sassy and responded with "What, so you're not interest in saving money then?"

Benefit of the doubt - gone. She copped a lecture and was lucky I didn't call the company.

      • Interested in saving money, but not interested in wasting time.

    • Nice knockers!

  • Thanks OP!

  • +1

    Don't knock this deal.

  • These work most of the time.

Except I had a few very pushy Indian sales ignore these stickers or pretend not to see them and open my front gate at front yard with the latch and knock my door. At the time front gate wasn't locked only front door and security door.

I call that intrusion and trespassing.

It's the same with junk mail stickers, apparently real estate agents and pizza coupon handouts don't think they are junk mail.

They just don't care and wanna finish the job asap.

As bad as the carding practice from auspost

  • Thanks! I had to make a printed one the other day because salespeople were coming to my BACK door.

  • Good timing.

The ones I've already got are fading and no-one seems to take any notice of them anymore.

I had someone come the other day saying they were in the area anyway and wanted to know whether I needed work from their business. Can't remember the exact details. Might have been tree lopping or roof repairs.

    • yup Tree lopping lots of them

  • +1

Did anyone get theirs yet? I remember signing up for them but never got them. I've had 3 salespeople this week already. Signed up again.

    • +2

I got mine a few weeks ago.
