Optus Huawei E589 Mini Wi-Fi 4G Modem on Sale for $7.00 @ Target

870

Optus Huawei E589 Mini WiFi 4G Modem on Sale for $7.00 @ Target Indooroopilly QLD.

Was $100, reduced to $70 as ticketed. Target had some electronics on clearance & was curious if this modem was on the list.
Went to the electronics counter & asked the sales assistant to check the price.
Price scanner came back with final price of $7.00 (inclusive of $2 Optus SIM)!!!
Absolute bargain even if it is an older model (released in 2013 by Optus)!

I picked up 2 myself at that price.

Sales Assistant confirms that the sale is QLD wide but could not confirm availability of sale price in other states!

Edit 11:50AM: Item has been spotted in other states also. No stock reported/remaining at St Marys, Mt Druitt, Leichhardt NSW, Indooroopilly QLD & ACT state wide.

Hope some of you OzB community members manage to get your hands on this great deal too!

Tried Target Joondalup today. Not on display anywhere. Has to ask about them.
They have a draw full of pre-paid Optus Wifi Modems. They don't have this model at all.
They have a couple of newer Prepaid Optus 3G starter pack kit ones for $39 and the Prepaid Optus 4G starter kit ones they did have were $69 and a different (newer) model.

      • +1

        Thanks for your service…

Also just checked at the Whitfords, WA store.
They don't have this model, but they do have a prepaid Usb only 3G Optus one discounted down to $10 (only 1 left).
And Telstra have a few different colours of prepaid 3G ones discounted down to $20 each.
And one prepaid 4G Telstra one discounted down to $34. (only one left).

None met what I was after so I didn't end up getting anything.

  • Grab it even just for the charger and USB cable!

    • Actually the charger and cables are a bit hit 'n' miss IME - they won't charge some of my Android devices for example.

      • +4

        IME = In my epinion?

        Oh. Experience. Don't mind me….

        • +1

          e-(profanity).

          I mean experience.

  • Impressive download speeds of up to 100 Mbit/s on LTE.
    3000mAh battery - around 5-6hrs use reported
    Thanks OP. Good investigating!

Can anyone confirm if this older model is unlocked?

    • Impressive download speed … up to

The key phrase is up to with that figure being a theoretical maximum that doesn't in any way reflect the users real world experience which is more likely to be 20% of that figure.

      • Honestly, you'd only need those kinds of speeds if there's another free data day.

        :)

        • +1

free data day ur speed will be less than adsl…

        • @dabell:

I pulled a solid 90Mb/s on free data day.

Only problem was lining up enough things to download, tbh.

        • @StrayfireX: you got lucky… the speed is dependent on the level of congestion in your area

        • @anonym:

I borrowed one of these for a month or so when I had issues with my fixed broadband. Kept having to reset the darn thing to get it to work. For $7, not bad to keep in case of emergency but if you intend to use it regularly, better off doing reearch and finding something better.

      • Every speed is up to, even your hdd bandwidth.

  • No stock in St Marys and Mt Druitt.

Can anyone confirm it includes 5gb as indicated below from Optus page? Thanks

Picked up the OptusHuawei E5573 for $13.80 (price beat big W $14.55 deal) at ow including 4gb for 14 days, this week, so that may still be worth looking for as well
    Good luck

    • Its double the price

    • OW only price match if it was shown on Big W web page 14.55 but big w web page does not show that so no price match.

      • I got them to ring the local big w as I couldn't get there and they confirmed the price scanned at the checkout
So I bought 3, but if this comes with 5 gb for 30 days it's a better deal

No stock in the ACT, unfortunately.

  • Can confirm this price in NSW. Just grabbed the last one at Leichhardt for $7

    • Can you post you invoice here? wondering if can price match somewhere…

    • Leichhardt sold out. Supposedly a customer Broden'd it

      • Haha im flattered if that was meant to be me, though im keeping it for me.

I grabbed the last one, the guy was surprised it scanned $7 though the tag said $100.

    • The bigw one comes with 4gb of start-up data, I can't seem to get anyone to confirm how much data this comes with, so who knows? Not sure which is the better modem though.

  • The E5573 only comes with a cable, no charger

Good price but more then likely superseded and a clearance item at target meaning there probably wasn't much stock to begin with. Still an excellent find for the op.

She literally said "that item is sold out Australia wide" after searching for the item code as shown on the receipt in this thread.

Just throwing this out there, she most likely was not telling the whole truth.. As stock on hand at Target is rarely accurate!

Even though this deal now says out of stock the apparent stock on hand Australia wide:

    Miranda 3
