Nice deal +v however I suggest buyers read the feedback before buying. It has a lot of issues and you might want to wait until a newer version comes out and pay $99 for better functionality unles you get a free upgrade if you buy it at this price.

Currently we can still download the newer version (update) for free.

never believe in GPS on phone.

it actually works pretty good! Prefer it to my standalone GPS (as it's all inbuilt and has some cool features due to online connection).

I use Sygic AU for turn-by-turn on my iPhone. Relatively unknown, but it's excellent.

      • I use Sygic on my Nexus One and it is great.

Plus points for phone app vs standalone gps…
+ it is always with you in whatever car you are in.
+ you always take it with you out of the car so it can't get stolen.
        + it is generally cheaper.
+ it is upgradeable and offers more choices when you upgrade.
+ you can also make and receive calls.

Plus points for standalone vs phone…
        - I can't can't think of a single one.

    • Nokia GPS is actually quite good. don't know about this TomTom app though

      • yep i've heard nokia GPS works real well on iphone…

  • I have heard that Navigon is good on iPhones. Might be worth a look. Cheers.

  • Sucks for iphone owners, still having to pay for turn by turn Gps software.

  • Nice find, and nice discount. That with any iTunes voucher discounts means can save a lot.

But that being said all three current GPS software on the iPhone are lacking in one way or another, and until that is fixed and there is one clear application that does all the appropriate features I'll not be purchasing.

Buyer certainly be very aware here.

  • Anyone know who's doing cheap itunes vouchers at the moment!?

    • I just got an email from Target - 25% off iTunes vouchers over the long weekend. Can't find it on their website just yet though.

As a jailbroken 3GS user I've tried all of the Nav apps, the only one that I'd be happy to pay for is the Navigon App. It's a perfect Sat Nav app. Easily as good as a dedicated Tom Tom.

  • You may want to read this before you make your purchase. It was just announced a few hours ago.

    • Thank you very much for posting that! you've saved me quite a bit!

According to this article - http://www.macuser.co.uk/news/277093/google-brings-free-satn…
"Unlike rivals such as TomTom or CoPilot’s smartphone software, Google’s satnav software doesn’t store maps on the device but downloads them on-demand from the cloud. That means users will need to have an active data connection when planning routes, though not while travelling."
So bear in mind that it will cost you more data allowance by using google's turn-by-turn app.

    • Don't get too excited yet… Apple always point the gun at Google in last minute.

      • i wonder if they will try and sneak this into google maps for iphone OS 4.0…

Also, google maps doesn't do turn by turn navigation in AU yet, even on android. There is some issue to do with licensing of the maps in that google don't have the rights to do it.

Currently we android users have to use a hacked version of google maps to do navigation in AU, and it is too laggy to be of any real use.

  • i am waiting for a GPS nav web app! it would be fun LOL

  • I've got it on my Iphone. It'as pretty good, haven't had any probs with it. Tried Sygic and preferred tomtom over it.

For all those legit bargainers out there, jb'ing is a much better bargain, I mean maps generally don't change alot, so updating the app wouldn't be too much of an issue.. Hence, lots of apps for free =]

Pirating is always cheaper, but thanks for admitting you're a thief.

  • How long can the battery last when you use TomTom?

    • I haven't tried draining the battery from 100% to 0%, but I'd hazard a guess at around 2-3 hours.

Definitely recommend grabbing a good quality in-car charger if you plan to use this app.

25% off itunes vouchers at target here; http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/24737, So effectively you're looking at about $59.99!

I have been using Tom Tom since day 1 it was released for iPhone. Very solid app. I recommend getting a cradle and mounting it up above the dashboard, where you'll have no reception problems.
