  • I assume customers will not get their shipment till early next week or Friday at the earliest. Not enough time to claim cashback if it closes 30/4

  • Wow seems like a pretty decent deal considering it has 4GB of DDR3 RAM. Only thing is that it comes with Vista but I guess that's partly why it's marked down so much. It also has no DVD drive but for most people I don't think that should be a con, plus it would probably help to keep it thin and increase the battery life. You can always get the $50 USB DVD from DX…

Just a note about Acer cashback: I never had any problems when I claimed for a monitor. It might take about two months but they give you an estimated date and in my case I actually got their cheque early.

    • +1

      it's windows 7 home premium.

      • website says vista, so this would be 64 bit windows 7?

      • Cool, now I know it's Windows 7 I thought it was too good to pass up so I purchased one. The checkout was a little slugish but it seems to have worked out okay. Thanks heaps.

  • only 32bit on this model

    • mmm. that means you cannot use all that 4GB memory - might as well sell with 3GB of memory.

Is this hardware only 32bit capable?

  • Can you get this with the Core 2 Duo and 3G options at all?

  • +1

Fantastic deal at $599 (from COTD/Wireless1) so it's even better now.

  • I only see $698 less $99 cash back making it $599.

    • +1

you need to add to cart then enter "time" in coupon.

  • The CPU (1.4GHZ Core 2) is a bit weak, is it?

    • -1

It also has no optical drive - it's a light weight (1.3kg) netbook. It'll play HD video, but don't be trying any CAD work on it.

  • HMMMMM very tempting! Can this handle 1080p? I'm assuming it has HDMI out (video only?)…..

  • it's actually not bad for an Acer but the CPU is single core, 1.4ghz, no HT but it is x64 and has VT

it'll be slow going… ie. a lot better than an Atom but not as good as even an older T7000 series CPU

  • Don't wanna be up myself but I think my post was a better deal for $437:
    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/24693

It has a bigger screen and a dvd burner so it's heavier but at least it's got dual core cpu. I bought one and am quite impressed.

I guess this one's an ok deal if you want a lighter notebook.

    • +3

Heavier, larger, louder, much lower battery life

BUT does have dvd and a better (maybe???) CPU

I'd go the timeline for internet browsing/documents/photos

      • Timeline has single core vs Dual core cpu.
Single core ranked 260 compared to rank 99.

General net surfing would be fine for the Timeline.

  • Anyone else having free shipping showing up?
Clicking on the link without entering the promo, I go straight to the website which has a $598.00 price anyway. Even after entering the 'time' promo code and going to paypal payment, the amount specified is still $598 + postage costs (i.e. $609.XX).
Can someone please confirm how free shipping will work?

    • free shipping still works.
sorry guys server is getting a bit slow,
enter "time" as code then press enter. then wait a bit

  • Thanks for the quick response jasonz1981, allowed me to put my order through :)
FYI for those asking about 64bit. The 2 I ordered from COTD before xmas (at $699 before cashback) came with Win 7 64 bit preloaded. So even if these don't come with it, the machine itself is definitely capable if you have the time to reload with 64bit iso and drivers.

    • Sorry this might be a dumb question, but is it free to load 64 bit or do you need to purchase a new license? How would you change it to 64 from 32 without buying the 64 bit version?

      • Obviously you need to purchase a new license, for it to be legitimate, or you can "borrow" your license from somewhere… ;) just make sure when you activate windows, use PHONE activation, and when going through the prompts, say that you have uninstalled your license from the person's computer that you're "borrowing" from ;)
My friend has lent his license to around 8 computers now.. they're all working fine.

i have one of these (3GB RAM and 500GB HDD) and they are awesome for work, uni etc. they look stylish and the solo processor is more than fast enough to go about daily tasks. it even plays full 1080p video!

  • Thanks all… just order 1… looking forward to trying it out.

    • Well, i am not so sure.. but what is "Activo"
anyway, that brand is 1.8Kg, acer is 1.6Kg
that brand has a 4400mAh battery, acer is 5600mAh.

    • +1

this one blows the other out of the water
cpu is faster as core 2 solo is more efficient than a celeron
      more ram
and bigger capacity battery (on the note of battery i think the cpu in the acer uses less battery than the activo as it's tdw is lower), in other words longer battery life

  • My understanding was that Win 7 32bit and 64bit keys were the same. So long as you load the same version. i.e. you have Home Premium then make sure you also load Home Premium 64bit (not Ultimate etc, where you would need another key).

  • +1

Mine came with Win 7 64bit pre-installed. I was all set to install it myself anyway, as the licence key is valid for either but this saved me the hassle.

The webcam was also higher quality that the one listed on the site. Overall I'm extremely impressed witht the build quality.

Great fast postage from Wireless1 as well (arrived today was ordered on the evening of the 27th). Thanks Jason and crew.

The cashback runs till May apparently, though you need to have your details etc sent in by the 12th of May.

  • Hi guys, I have a few questions about this laptop: 1) what colour is it black or silver or do i have a choice 2)how long will delivery to postcode 2020 be, and 3)do i must order today (30/4) to be able to claim cash back? (is it true the offer has been extended to May)?

    Many thanks.

  • Seems the price has gone up since last night, i thought this was a end of month deal??? Didn't even last the whole month…very disappointed !!!! Was hoping to order.

    • Uh. It's a new month now. What?

  • I meant the price went up after thursday night/friday morning (30th)

  • Received item Friday(ordered Wednesday night 28th) Excellent lappy running OS7 home premium 64bit long baterry life and very portable for $499.00 (after cashback). very please with purchased. Yesterday log in and want to buy 1 more but, the price going up $100. hopefully the deal repeat again. Thanks Jason and wireless1 team.

  • Has the price really gone up? It was only $598 with the coupon code 'time'… and after that you need to lodge your cashback claim.

By the way I'm very pleased with mine… and yes it is 64 bit - even says so on the box. Will try to report when I get my cashback cheque.

  • yeah I missed out too…hopefully Wireless1 or COTD will do it again as I believe this model is soon to be replaced?
