  • Aus Stock?

Don't think it is AUS stock (apparently it has to match codes for Samsung VR promo). If it is Kogan stock then it's not. Also cheaper before (I think unless they charged $60+ for post which wouldn't be surprising)

    Grey Import

  • International model. Should put 'grey import' in the title :)

    • I've amended the title :) I wonder if the device will still be under Australian consumer laws/ TIO regulations and processes? I think it's still an Australian retailer (despite being bought out by Kogan).

      • It should be fine for all that consumer law stuff as the retailer would have an ABN to sell it here. It is just that it's not covered by the 24mth Australian Samsung warranty so you would have to go thru a third party/lengthy repair process if anything happens. Some have to send the grey import handset overseas just for repair. Also, these grey imports dont entitle you to the free Gear VR promo Samsung currently has running until june 30. You also cant claim back 10% gst from TRS when going overseas, as grey imports dont have any tax on them

  • Delivery @ Dick Smith? I thought Dick had already kicked the bucket and went limp!

    • This is the revamped dicksmith website from kogan

    • Dick Smith in website only. All orders are fulfilled by Kogan.

The DSE website is nothing more than a 'front' for Kogan

      • I see. There was a time when Dicky was my favorite electronics store. It was disappointing to see how it turned out to be in the last couple of years before its demise this year. Well, all good things must come to an end.

Dick's Smith demise started in 2009~2010 when they removed all the hobbyist tools, kits and components from their product range. As soon as that happened all the margins dissapeared and that's when their profits sunk.

This article from Lifehacker shows exactly what Dickies did that went horribly, horribly wrong. And there was one comment in there that hit the nail on the head: "Dick smith is generally a heap of cheap "DSE" branded crap surrounded by overpriced brand name stuff you can get cheaper at JB Hi Fi."

Now all we have in the physical retail space is JayCar, and JayCar is overpriced and crap. Any hobbyist worth their salt would shop online.

        • @scrimshaw: Sad but true.

  • If I get this deal, would I also be able to claim the Free Gear VR as per:
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/245851

I'm guessing Dick Smith qualifies as a "Participating Retailer":

but not sure about "Participating Product":
    d) "Participating Product" means either of the following products and excludes “C Grade” or “seconds” products:
    i. Samsung GS7 SM-930F (Australian variant); or
    ii. Samsung GS7 Edge SM-935F (Australian variant);

$120 more for 1yr extra warranty and VR

No brainer really at that sort of price point

Well, when the listing was still up. Still, it's not beyond the realm of possibility that a similar price will occur soon.

    • Or you buy extended warranty with the Kogan dicks for $141.-

      • That's sarcasm right…? :/

  • Extended most likely full of things that aren't covered Kogan warranty? No thanks.

  • all i see is 999 + delivery. Am i missing something?

    • That's also what I see.

  • As someone that works for a company that regularly receives orders from Kogan, I suspect that this is Aussie stock and a special deal has been negotiated, including it being sold as international stock in order to maintain inflated local prices.
I repeat the part where I mentioned this is my suspicions, yet they're based upon experience with them buying from the company I temp for.

    • This is very interesting.. is this because your company only ships out aus stock?

      • The company I'm temping for is THE importer/distributor for multiple brand names many would recognise.
I can't go much more into it due to the usual legalese and I'm seeking pernament employment here.

        • Oh that does seems likely…

  • Have people who bought the S7 Edge from Kogan received the dual sim version? I've read some mentions that they have and curious if it'll be the same with Dick Smith.

    • Strange, wouldnt they be labelled as dual sim on the website then? Unless it was just a stock fulfilment error. I think the dual sim models just have the micro sd card slot sacrificed for a second sim card.

      • People have received the dual sim even though they bought the single sim version. In the dual sim version you have to sacrifice either one sim card slot or the sd card but with some sim hacking you can have both.
