It's warm chocolate custard, not that bad really.

      • +3

maccas must be trying more people through the stores…. their burgers have gotten expensive so I guess you need a draw card…… dominos and Pizza Hut $5 pizzas have become my go to fast food choice since Mac meals cost $8 now.

        • try $11.25 for double quarter pounder large meal!

        • @banzini: Not only that, the Double Quarter Pounder is smaller these days… not sure what happened a year or two ago, but it definitely got smaller. It used to be the only thing I buy at McDs. Now I don't ever go there.

        • +1

@bunnybash: True that. It did resemble a man mountain at times. Now you can fit your mouth around it. Looks more compact, possibly taller? Fluffier buns maybe?

Like those chocolate crepes and donuts covered in toppings.
Or turkish kebab food or oillllly gigantic pizza slices at those cheap places after a night out drinking.
      SO DISGUSTING.

……then you think of the gluttonous bizarrely delicious taste…..mmmmm….

……then you think about how you will look/weigh and feel afterwards. reality :(

      • +7

sell it in a bayside cafe and people would think it's trendy and charge $7 for it ….. Nutella pizza ….. churros….. I can think of a things that cost more than $1.50 and probably aren't much better.

      • That comment is a masterpiece, Ludwig.

    what's a chocolate pie?

    • +19

      I'd rather a cream pie.

      • that would just be plain custard instead of chocolate.

      • I know some places where you can get multiple cream pies for free.

omg PUKE i looked at it, it literally is a pie with chocolate in it???

I thought it was a "pie" in the way americans call cakes pies, so i assumed it was some kind of cake but it is a PIE? Haha yeah, nah.

      • +1

see you can't make that at home, imagine trying to get all those ingredients….. can't beat hi tech and research. though I think the use of compound chocolate rather than real chocolate is cost cutting rather than adding flavour.

        • +1

imagine trying to get all those ingredients

Meh, most if not all of them are entirely unremarkable ingredients. When you start breaking down the composition of a food, you can make anything look "hi tech" and artificial.

        • +1

Seems to be essentially pastry, compound chocolate and custard powder. They have to break each ingredient down, but it doesn't look too bad to be honest.

      • +2

Well why didn't they just call it that…

  • Apple Pie is also $1.50 Includes a serve of soft serve ice cream in QLD/NT :)

    https://mcdonalds.com.au/winter-loose-change-menu

    • I only see the apple pie, where's the soft serve?

      • +3

Have a read of the bottom of the page, states that soft serve is included in QLD/NT. Can also confirm it is shown on the menu with soft serve in Brisbane CBD today.

    • For people not in QLD/NT, you can use this deal to get a free soft serve.

  • +10

This deal would be good for people who have no taste buds and want to get fat

    • +12

Yet you gave this deal a +

      • +11

Clearly he is one of those people.

    • +7

or people who only have $1.50 and want a warm snack in winter. ….

      • +2

i prefer a warm apple pie like Jim

  • +12

I saw a dog that defecated a choc pie on the footpath yesterday

  • +8

Save yourself $1.5 because the taste was meh

  • +7

Had one out of curiosity, definitely helps people on a diet because i doubt someone would buy it again after trying it

  • +3

All those people not on board I bet if we had four of these balanced on the side of a mason jar, with the insides coated in caramel sauce, soft serve, some chocolate thick-shake, fries jammed in the top, more chocolate sauce with an oreo crumb you'd be all over it.*

    *part of a balanced diet.

  • +4

    Just had one, it sucks!!

    I'm not lovin' it!

  • +2

The guy selling it knows it taste bad that he asked if I want free ice cream with it

  • +1

    I got excited for a minute, thinking it would be like the triangular chocolate pies that McDonalds sell in Japan for 100 yen;

    What am I Homer Simpson?

  • So much elitism in here, but never in a discount ice cream thread. Everyone loves ice cream too much to not eat it because "chemicals" - well, unless you're the "milk is poison" guy.

  • +1

Sorry but where is the bargain? Isn't this the normal price?

  • Tried it. It's not very good to be honest. Just get an apple pie from maccas instead - much better.

  • Also have tried it!
These pies were absolutely huge in Japan. They were fantastic and IMO is the best thing since CYT came out. Unfortunately, it's a different story in Aus. The fried, oil-drenched 'pastry' of the Choco Pie is very reminiscent of the fries - but the greasy kind. Chocolate and fries are actually a very nice combo (in Japan they have chocolate loaded fries!) however, in this pastry, is a bit questionable.

They pies are not the same, but I think it's definitely something worth trying - the Aus pie I ate had been 20 minutes old yet was still palatable. I'm happy they've decided to test it here in Australia and hopefully we'll be able to try the other Maccas specialties like chocolate loaded fries and taro pies as well. It might sound gross, but it's fantastic to finally have some international Maccas items.

  • At Roma St Brisbane we got a soft serve included too

  • I actually quite liked it…

  • Just had one. Small in comparison to an apple pie and it was half empty. The custard lacked flavor. Worth 70c max.

  • Expires on the 18th of October nation wide. Soft serve in a lid is included for free in Queensland and NT.
