  • Helps to know where you're buying it from in the title, Dell eBay

  • Shame about the HD screen, but still looks like a great purchase.

    • It would probably be a TN screen with poor viewing angles too.

  • Hello is there spare slot for ssd or have to replace stock hdd
Also can someone comment on comparison between this and the Asus zen book
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/251054

    Thanks

    • +1

Completely different laptops, hence the ~$440 price difference

One is a 13 inch ultra-book (thin, light, portable - 1.3 Kg) with a high resolution screen and super fast SSD (Hard Drive).

The other (this one) is a 15.6 inch comparatively heavy beast (nearly double the weight @ 2.32+ Kg), with average resolution, slow hard drive and generally a more budget-range laptop.

The CPU and Ram are largely the same but the Asus will feel faster due to the SSD, but it depends what you are using it for, to some extent.

Buy this if you don't mind 2.5 kgs of weight and are after an everyday laptop at a good price with heaps of storage space.
Buy the Asus if you can afford it and will be carrying it around lots, personally the Asus looks like a very nice laptop. The Dell, just average IMO.

As for your SSD query, I'll leave that for somebody else to answer, but personally I'd replace it with an SSD, eg 500GB or at least make the SSD the Primary (OS) drive to get the performance boost, if you only buy a low capacity add-on type SSD.

      • Good advice

    • no spare slot for ssd, you can only replace mech hdd with ssd
just checked it has ODD slot that you can make use of for installing SSD with caddy

  • how is the build quality of this laptop?

  • LOL - better upvote as I purchased this! I asked about this laptop in the 2 previous Dell threads, but it was the 4GB version you could get for $599 - http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Dell-Inspiron-15-5000-Core-i5-620…

Further digging found this version, so I went for it (4GB extra for $40)

One interesting comment from my questions was this one (thank you Lyl)

The dell you linked is decent for the price :)

Though if you are willing to spend a extra, I'd recommend getting the lenovo yoga in this deal: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/251204

It has a FHD 1920x1080 screen opposed to a 1366x768, so the higher resolution will look nicer even though the screen is smaller. It also has a SSD and touchscreen, so will will be much better to use and make a great buy for an extra $200

For easy reference the 2 other Dells I was looking at were

  • Just want to compare if any one know Which one is better?

  • Has anyone used this laptop? How is the performance?
