What's the difference between this and the Lenovo Tab 2 A7-20 $98.00?

      • +1

Comparing the two on HN website, the only difference I can see is the Tab 3 has 10hr battery life & the Tab 2 has 8hrs.

      • +5

        it is serious question…

        • +4

Well, the answer from Maverick was seriously stupid; so there is a slightly tangential, if somewhat tenuous, link…

    • +5

      $20.40

    • +3

The one you linked was announced in Jan 2015.

The Tab 3 was announced in Feb 2016.

So this is a year newer.

Officeworks for example has both on their website, but the tab 2 is out of stock.

As far as actual practical differences go….

Tab 3 is updatable to android 6.0 (alledgedly), has a better camera (still wouldnt use it), 20grams heavier, slightly updated design…. so not much really

      • 1024x600 isn't exactly 2016 spec, more like 2006

        • +16

          It's $77.

        • +2

Waiting for a link to one of similar build quality, aust warranty, with better specs for $77 or less…

        • +3

Huh… Lol didn't know tablets were so popular and cheap 9 years ago… Dang

      • Released in Feb 2016 just 4 months ago and still 1024x600 screen…

    • The earlier pad has a much nicer finish - I have one of them also - I prefer its look to the new Essentials version. The bevil Lenovo decided to add makes it look much "cheaper" but all the goods work as well. Battery in the new one seems to last a little longer but thats not measured.

  • it's cheap

  • This should come with Android 6.0 out of the box, which is a major plus anyway.

    • not according to lenovo's website. Android 5.0

      • +2

Out of the box is 5.0, but afaik from the few sources ive read, the 6.0 update is available.

    • whoops, I guess the news I've been reading about doesn't apply to Aussie models of the Lenovo tab

  • Would this be a good choice as a tablet for the kids to watch movies on (eg when flying AirAsia)? Does it have a memory slot?

  • +3

Don't know how it will manage with 1GB of RAM, my Nexus 7 struggles with 2GB even after a factory reset.

    • +1

Older nexus 7? My 2nd gen performs great.

      • +1

The older nexus 7 only had 1gb of ram. I have no problem with 2gb of ram on my nvidia shield tablet. It's a bit more powerful than a nexus 7 though.

      • +1

I had a burial for my first gen a few months ago. Sad times. Was hoping Google was going to announce a third gen last month but it didn't happen.

  • +7

I bought that way too fast.

  • +4

1GB ram, no deal regardless of the price.

  • Might not be related but HCF currently has a promo where if a new member sign up for a hospital + extra cover for 2 months you can have this one for free.

  • Does anyone know if you have the option of casting the screen directly from the settings pulldown menu like the Nexus phones? I know you can go into the Chromecast app and do it from there, but looking for something with the shortcut.

    • Custom ROM is currently the only way of achieving this.

      • Bummer, thanks!

    • Just had a look at the old version of this, the Lenovo Tab 2 and it does have this option. My 8" Lenovo tablet has this option as well.

      • Ohh!! This might seal it for me thanks so much!

  • CHEEP!

  • My kid cracked my nexus 7 2013 screen, was quoted something like $170 to fix it …so grabbed one of these instead to use as a Kodi tv remote..cheers

    • Isn't it cheaper to buy a TV remote?

      • +1

A decent TV remote would be half the cost of this and no where near as useful.

        • +1

Even just using this as combined electronic program gude / remote would be quite useful.

  • Mine came with android 5.01. Doesn't seem to get any updates for Marshmellow at the moment. Performance is roughly on par with the Moto g (1st gen)

  • I got one on an earlier 20% off deal from TGG. Sadly at this point Australia only has access to the blue border one - its much better than the "Pedo" pads although the earlier model was much nicer in finish making it look much more premium - both other specs are not much different to the new one outside of the droid version.

  • Just looked at the specs.

Cheap, but you get what you paid for.

  • This is fine as a budget tablet, I've had one since Feb, the display is actually not bad, if you watch a movie it looks okay, but the home screen etc don't look as nice for some reason. It's fast enough to surf the web/watch youtube/ listen to music etc, game I don't know, battery life is good lasts multiple hours, sound don't know gonna say crap, seems sturdy. For this price it's quite good

  • +1

Have the Tab 2 for a few months now, other than the non delivery of the promised Android 5 update, I'm happy with the 99 I paid for it.

This is a 7 inch screen for youtube, reading documents, loading with shows for the train, light gaming etc.. You can browse the web but with patience.

Yup you get what you paid for but it's still great despite the specs. I bought it to read documents and watch videos while not worrying about it get knocked around in my bag with books and such. Does the job.

This Lenovo Tab 2 A7-10 review claims apps can't be installed on SD card.

Has that changed for Lenovo Tab 3 A7-10?

    • My son's A7-20 allows apps on the SD card. So I'd assume the same for anything newer.

  • The Chuwi Vi7 is cheaper and arguably better.

    http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Chuwi-Vi7-Android-5-1-3G-Phab…

    • 2500mah battery? That doesn't sound promising. (edit: reviews online say the battery life is poor)

Also i'd rather get the reputable brand, the couple of days delivery (instead of one to two months), the Australian warranty, 3450mah battery, etc.

As far as i can tell, the only benefit is 3G. Specs seem equally, if not more, low-end. (And being $8 or so cheaper)

    • +1

      Chinese tabs = hardware lottery.

You might end up getting a lemon

  • I should note that the estimated delivery times are probably not the most accurate since it assumes it comes from melbourne. Mine is coming from the closest good guys to me (8km away), so should be a fair bit quicker i'd imagine.

  • Got the Asus memo pad from TGG deal a couple years ago. While its great for a budget tablet to watch movies and YouTube, its really frustrating to use it for frequent web surfing. Hangs and stalls quite often. Think this one will be the same

    • ASUS memo pad is using CloverTrail CPU. I have the 10 inch variant of the tab with 2GB ram with a slightly faster clocked CPU and yes, it is still terrible.

However this is probably using a MTK quad core chipset which most likely will perform better.

      • Yeeep, a "MediaTek 1.3GHz quad-core processor"

      • I got mine from this deal. HD version
        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/148752

Quad core, 7 inch HD display, 1Gb RAM, 16Gb storage and microSd expansion (up to 32Gb), Android 4.2

The Lenovo is also 1GB ram though.

        • The Asus Memo Pad HD has a 1280x800 screen, something to consider if you are thinking the Lenovo will be an upgrade.

        • @28Degrees: thanks. I'm happy with Asus for watching movies. But looking to buy a tablet for serious and frequent web surfing as don't own a computer and do most of the internet stuff on a tablet or mobile phone. This one does not really fit the bill although cheap and tempting. Might just go for broke and get an iPad lol

  • Would Officeworks price match this? I have some Coles/Myer vouchers I need to use.

    • It ends in an hour or two, so probably not.

Also i dont think they'd pricematch a coupon code deal anyway.

  • -1

    Back in stock

    • +1

It was never out of stock.

The 20% off code expired yesterday, so now its just the normal price (same as officeworks or jbhifi)

  • -2

Yeah its really not worth wasting your money on a device that is cheap like this, just spend another $50-100 and you can get a device that will last, and be usable.

  • +1
    • +2

      Good catch!

After using it for a few days, its a very solid tablet and i can definitely recommend it.

      • missed out last time, so might go for it this time. Could you confirm in the short cuts menu when you swipe down, can you select "cast screen"? Would really appreciate it!
        TY!

        • +1

Yep! There is a cast screen button!

        • @cheesecactus: thanks heaps!
