  • Is this the one known as the "Pegasus" in chinese markets?

    • I don't think so. The Pegasus 3 uses the Mediatek processor and comes in 16/32GB, 2/3GB combinations and doesn't support B28(700). I think you can get the Pegasus for half the price.

  • +1

Still no Android 6 for my Zenfone 2 ZE551ML, so their update support are very slow.

    • Currently in beta testing according to their website. Hey beats Samsung, I still haven't got Marshmallow for my S5.

  • +1

damn, spec is even worse off than the unbeatable RMN3PRO which is less than half the price, but does support aussie 4g bands

    • -1

      ONE aussie 4G band.
I have a thread about it:
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/257954

      • But the thread is just asking everyone to input information without even asking the right questions. How about write something concisely, purposely, and informative?

        • No, that would be counter-intuitive to a topic which doesn't technically have a direct answer.
It's going to change for each user based on use case scenario and geographic location.

I locked my current phone (which has Band28) to 3G to test out the H+ network in Brisbane, and at various points heading toward the sunshine coast.

Everywhere I tested I managed H+ speeds; so 21 down 11 up (real world I was seeing about 15 down, 9 up).
          http://telecomtalk.info/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/differenc…

Honestly, for web browsing and even Image heavy TUMBLR sites, H+ loaded faster than I could (sensibly) scroll.
I wouldn't let the lack of 4G "out in the sticks" bother me anymore. H+ is bloody quick.

        • @MasterScythe: Correction, a thread that addressed a comparison of which bands give the best performances on all networks is intuitive.

You should have wrote a concise article purposefully addressing what to look out for in a phone's signal transmission frequency.

What consumers should beware and what information sellers don't advertise such as the region version.

Just a few pointers on what you should have done to make a worthwhile thread.

          @lovepeoplenotmoney:
With all due respect; are you high?
Why should a discussion forum, asking for opinion and personal experience have anything like that?

          -I wasn't writing an article.
-I wasn't addressing any other signal frequency
-I wasn't trying to warn consumers about anything.
-I wasn't trying to assess any sellers advertising policies.

In fact, I think the article I linked within the thread more than covers that.
          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/buying_a_phone_that_works_for_the_aussie_mobile_network?s[]=4g

Its the FORUM, not the WIKI, this might be where you're getting confused.

        • @MasterScythe: Forums discuss presented knowledge, and knowledge is based on reason. On the other hand, opinion is the lowest level of intellect because there are no reasons that the opinion is found upon. Do you really want to waste your time reading text that is longer than needed to be, unachievable purpose, and uninformative? A thread that omits opinion and only presents reasons is a purposefully and informative thread.

          @lovepeoplenotmoney:
Forums discuss anything. There are no rules outside of decency and topic.
Spend ten minutes reading, practically any active forum, this one included and you'll see that's simply not how it works.
Especially on a topic where each user is going to experience it differently based on location and use scenario.

So, I'll take your messages, presenting me with the "lowest level of intellect", on board, but probably not heed its advice.
          Thanks for your time.

    • Camera looks to be a significant improvement though.
      Pity about the meager battery.

  • This spec at this price not worth risking buying grey import. Redmi Note 3 Pro has higher spec and half price.

  • +1

Asus were cool when you could get a pretty good phone for a couple of hundred dollars. $500 almost gets you a G5, which I suspect would be a better phone then this one.

    • G5 doesn't even come into the high spec category

  • +2

What's the point of having a type can USB port if it's 2.0?

    • Especially since Asus ask a high price, Asus could install 3.1. There's hardly any difference to Zenfone2 ZE551ML, which is half the price

    • Do they sell Taiwanese version?

      • Yes.. It's shipped from Taiwan per the description.
Widely recommended seller for the Zenfone 2 both here and on Whirlpool.

Edit: note they're currently out of stock.
Probably best to wait a few months until the supply exceeds demand and prices drop as a result.

        • qd_au aren't always the cheapest, and the courier they used frustrated me. I can't imagine much advantage buying the Zenfone3 for so much when the Zenfone2 is practically the same, right?

        • @lovepeoplenotmoney:
They're not at all practically the same! Apart from both being smartphones that run Android.
One has an Intel x86 SoC, the other has a Qualcomm Snapdragon ARM SoC and that's just the start of the differences!

        • @scubacoles: Zenfone3 chipset is Qualcomm MSM8953 Snapdragon 625, and Octa-core 2.0 GHz Cortex-A53. Zenfone2 is Intel Atom Z3580 Quad-core 2.3 GHz. So where's QC3.0 compatibility?

No dedicated micro SD slot for Zenfone3, but Zenfone2 has a dedicated micro SD slot.
Zenfone3 has better camera resolution like you said.
          Bluetooth: Zenfone3 v4.2, Zenfone2 v4.0.
          Cable: Zenfone3 USB v2.0, type-c v1.0 reversible; Zenfone2 micro v2.0
Fingerprint: Zenfone3 yes, Zenfone2 no. But why would you allow your finger print to be available on your phone…
Then there are the regional bands…
But what advantage does the Zenfone3 have over Zenfone2 other than camera?

        • @lovepeoplenotmoney:
          For me the benefits are:
Significantly better battery life is likely (the Intel Chips were power hogs).
Better app support as a result of using a more standard architecture.
The lack of dedicated MicroSD slot is pretty much irrelevant with 2G networks about to be switched off. (Dual SIM devices are becoming kinda pointless unless you get a Snapdragon 820 Dual SIM with 3G fallback)
          USB 3 vs USB2
          Significantly better camera
          Somewhat less Bloat

Zenfone 2 was a pretty decent device… it started at this same price (roughly) and has dropped with age as expected.
It's still pretty decent at current prices too!

  • Looking for the larger delux.

However, downside with this phone is you cant have both dual sim and expand micro sd?

    • That's my understanding, its either second sim or expanded memory.

    • Doesn't even look like there's a lanyard port either

  • +1

Doesn't seems to be any bargain here. Zenfone 3 DELUXE under $400 can be considered as a bargain. But this model for $500 is a no no.

    • May I ask how did you work out magic price mark, $400?

      • if u can buy LG G5 around $500 then I don't think Asus can be worth spending more than LG

        • I see. Thanks

    • +1

S821 6Gb/64Gb 5.7 inch screen for $400???? What planet are you living on?

      • +1

Wait a month or so. U will find it for $400 mark.

  • +1

If the reports are correct at http://whirlpool.net.au/wiki/dual_sim_4g3g_phones…… this model phone has dual sim 4G+3G simultaneously with B28 and with the 5.2" under $400 on qd_au (ebay), it is a good buy. Last month I ended up buying an Xiaomi Mi5 32Gb for just under $400 with cashback, love the phone but band 28 would have been a bonus.

    • Good info. Was exactly what i was wanting to find out. Been waiting on a dual sim phone capable of 4G3G simultaneously with B28. Will be keeping an eye on this phone and the thread you listed

  • I think a simple information is missing about ASUS Zenfone 2 ZE551ML.
I bought it last year and found that SIM 1 will take 4G/3G/2G BUT SIM 2 is only 2G.
As in Australia 2G is gone (or going to be down soon) the SIM 2 slot is unusable.
So I would try to confirm before buying these phones again.

    • This is the same for any Dual SIM phone bought in 2015 or earlier and most bought in 2016.
I don't believe that there are any locally available Dual SIM phones that have dual, simultaneous 3G/4G and only a few models exist Internationally.
