Bauhn (ALDI) HDMI Cable 2m - $3.99 (Central West Shopping Centre, Braybrook VIC - Possible Pricing Error?)

120

I was looking for a HDMI cable and was going to purchase online until I spotted the Aldi one at a cheaper price. It's listed as $7.99 but my local Aldi had it listed as $3.99. Not sure if it was a pricing error or not but ended up buying another one later on the day.

  • Local error? Paid full price for mine at Kotara.

  • I think so, hence why I returned and bought a second one for spares. :)
They had the 2m and 4m cables in the cabinet on display. From memory, the 4m cables were listed as $12.

  • Paid full price for mine

The normal price for a 2m HDMI cable is $4 at MSY. 1 cent is not a huge saving.

    • Not exactly a fair comparison. Also, the outer layer material cable feels alot more premium than the MSY ones.

    • These are much better quality than the cables from MSY, much less likely to fail

For a 2m HDMI cable, quality does not matter unless you pull/plug the cable everyday.

  • Where is your local Aldi? Do you have to put that in the title?

      I've updated the title

Just about the right price for an HDMI cable

Perhaps for a generic cable, but this is quite cheap for a branded one.

Surely Aldi's house brand doesn't count as brand name…

  • Good price if the cable is HDMI 2.0. I think I am dreaming. Well it's Monday you know.

    • The HDMI version numbers are irrelevant to cables, this cable being "high speed HDMI" should support all current formats.

      • That affects frames per second, doesn't it?
        http://www.trustedreviews.com/opinions/hdmi-2-0-vs-1-4

        • No that is only applicable to electronic devices, media players, AVR's, TV's etc i.e early 4k TV's only had HDMI 1.4 so could only accept 4k upto 30p, this is due to several factors including the HDMI 1.4 sending/receiving chips not supporting above 30p.
This restriction does not apply to passive HDMI cables, they are a dumb device with no chips or electronics, a properly constructed High Speed HDMI cable should support all 4k frame rates.
The above does not apply to active cables but they are only needed for long runs.

  • I saw Harvey Norman (Broadway) last week selling Laser branded HDMI cables for $69.95.

    Now there's a pricing "error"!

  • Alternatively you can also buy from office works http://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/m20ProductDisplayView?cat… although a bit shorter but still cheap as well. I dont know how the quality is compared to aldi one
