    • the fiio range seems to be the most reliable. i dont have a dac yet and i cant justify the money for one yet.

    • I got a Fiio Kilimanjaro 2 to run alongside my DT770 pro (80 Ohms). Typically use it when my source are s6/iphone 6 or my macbooks. My desktop (running off onboard Gigabyte Z97 SOC FORCE) is powerful enough to drive it unamped, so much so that my system vol slider is at 30-40%.

      • So I probably won't notice any difference with an amp or DAC? My phone volume is at 50% and desktop is about 35%. I wish I had a friend that was into this sort of stuff so I could test it out :P

        • Definitely gives it a bit of grunt. My mobo has an amp (supposedly can drive 600Ohms) so I CBF'd trying out the AMP with the desktop.

Wow, phone at 50%? I haven't found a phone that can properly drive it tho. What are you using?

        • Zenfone 2. I reckon you'd damage your ears at or above 70%

  • How does these compare with Sennheiser HD600/650 as music reference purposes?

    • +2

I have the dt 990 600ohm premium and have to sell it because the high is very piercing. It also ran into problem with one of the channel twice. It was repaired under warranty. I have read that this has similar piercing high pitch which is not for everyone. The sennheiser hd650 is better balance in my opinion.

    • Completely polarising. If you listen to pop beyers will be sibilant without eq. Hd600 are better buy… 650s are just crap, too muffled

      • oh wow.. so you think HD600 is better than HD650..
i've heard that people has mixed opinions about HD600 vs 650.
Maybe it's better for me to have a listen to both before deciding which to buy..

      • This is taken from a forum. I have a few excellent Dac and Amp and really enjoy my HD650.

"First, I don't think you'll go badly wrong with either one. I own both. The HD650 is tweaked to have a slightly more fun frequency response with many genres, but people tend to exaggerate the differences.

From a top-end source and amp, the HD650 will sound better to many people for most genres. Plugged into lesser gear, the HD650 may sound a bit dark, muddy, veiled, or bloated in the bass frequencies. The HD600 doesn't scale quite as much with better gear, but is more neutral and consistent plugged into anything. The bass of the HD600 will not overwhelm other frequencies. Your strings and horns will stand out as they should. The build quality is about the same for both the HD600 and HD650.

If I was in your position—listening mainly to classical and driving them from a PC sound card—I'd buy the HD600 (or maybe the HD598). As I said, I own both. Since I listen to a variety of genres with a pretty nice amp, I listen to the HD650 far more than the HD600."

  • Totally different to the sennheiser hd600/650 range. The sennheiser's are open headphones while the beyers are closed. You may disturb others around you with the sennheisers due to their open nature. The sennheisers also are harder to drive so they definitely need an amp (300 ohms and lowish sensitivity). The sennheisers are for sitting at home, in a nice chair, with a wine or finger of scotch, late at night…..by yourself.

  • My current pair are the Sony MDR-1R, how do these compare? Worth Upgrading or not?

    • Yup I'd say so. I'm currently using audio technica's ATH-AD900X without amps and it's very good for gaming. Might pick up these cans and a decent amp for music.

      • Also using the AD900x for gaming, awesome sound. Just bought these for blocking out noise ATH A700x $125 free shipping to metro. Bargain! Not enough for it's own post though. Only 2 left. They are on ebay same shop for $129 inc. free shipping though.

        • Are you using those for music (ATH A700X)? The AD900x has a closed ended cousin version as well which I assume would be the same.

        • +1

@watty: I will be when they arrive :-) Yeah the A900x are double $$ the A700x, but I figure they will only be used when there is too much ambient noise for the open AD900's. If you have relatively quite surroundings, open cans are unbelievable.
I also run the AD900x via a sound card through a small valve amp for gaming and PC based music. Hard to explain not being an audio junkie, but it sounds fuller? I dunno, I notice it :-)

        • @Mossy: As long as you notice the difference that's all that matters. I stopped reading up too hardly for people's opinions on things because sometimes it just comes down to personal preference. Hope you enjoy your new set of cans!

  • I don't even really have a need to upgrade from my Yamaha HPH-MT220's but I kinda want to buy these just to see what they're like.

    • From what I recall, the DT770 will have a fair amount less of low end than the MT220. If going for heavier music (rock, metal, top40, drum 'n' bass etc) I'd probably stick to MT220's. If you want to hear finer detail in classical, orchestral - stuff that's not compressed to the max, then the DT770's. Also from memory, they have a wider sound stage than the Yammies.

      • Ah yes, sound stage. That's the part you just make up in your head as you listen right?

        • Not really. The 220's have a really limited sound stage and it's really obvious when compared to some other headphones I've owned.

    • Rather than impule buy, go demo them in your city somewhere if you're able to. Pays to bring your own music, source and even your usual headphones too to compare the sound. If they are a decent shop they wont mind.

    i like watermelon.

  • I've had these for a couple of years now, no problems, great sound and quite comfy. Hardly get used but still…..

  • Anyone know if Amazon UK delivers to your preferred Parcelpoint?

EDIT: just found out can't collect from parcelpoint.

  • I have DT990 and with amp it sounds freakin good

    That cable though :(

  • Why does it say "B Stock"?

Is there something wrong with these?

    • +4

      In the notes it says:

      "Notes:

Customer sent item back as unwanted item. Near new condition"

So that explains the price I guess. OP may want to edit post to indicate that these are not technically 'new'

Negging so that people are aware of this.

Thanks, post updated, didn't see it when I first posted (though surprising that it took so long for someone to notice, maybe Amazon pulled the bait and switch, very weird)

        • Didn't spot this either. Top right corner has the order as being new.

Is it worthwhile cancelling the order?

          Cheers.

        • @x d:
          I just cancelled mine

    • I thought about cancelling the order but decided against it. It has arrived yesterday and looked new. The price on the website is now 112 but it still says B stock. Happy to have gone through with it.

  • I have tiny doubt are all other ohm`s B stock too? I'd like to buy 32 ohm…best some say…so plz help.
    Thank uou

How do these compare to Sennheiser Momentum 2.0?

    • …or the Audio-Technica ATH-M50X Studio Monitor Professional Headphones (noob here)?

      • Looking purely at sound quality the Beyers are better than both, but bear in mind the 80ohm Beyers have a hard-wired 3 metre cable so they're not exactly designed for mobile use. I spent a few weeks looking into these and a few other models, and ended up getting the M50X as they're more suitable to my usage (foldable, removeable cable, easily driven, both indoor/outdoor use).

        • +2

I guess for noobs like us, sound quality would not matter as much as comfort.
So I guess it is best to try these instore for 1o-15 mins.

  • Just ordered the 250ohm model at $193 included postage, because my MSI gaming motherboard claims support up to 600ohm.

    • Is that through the on-board audio only, or with a sound card also?

  • I've been waiting for this to go on sale for ages, perhaps this is the only good thing to come out of brexit.
You're a star, lyl! thanks for the bargain spotting.

Cancelled the order for the 80 Ohm and ordered a 16 Ohm one. Only the 80 Ohm model is a returned item. The other three models are new.

  • If you're after a premium desktop amp, there are 2 hours left on this massdrop:

Received it this morning (the limited edition to my surprise). Plugged into my workstation. It sounds great and it's also the most comfortable to wear.

  • Got mine this morning too, 80 Ohm version. I've got them running through a Cakewalk UA-25ex, they sound and feel fantastic - I never would have guessed these are B-stock.
