  • Got mine today (could have got it last Friday but StarTrack decided nobody was home when they came to deliver it, even though my wife was home at the time written on the card).

Black one delivered. Kudos to them for honouring the deal.

Just had a latte - bit of residue in the bottom of the cup, and I need to work on the water to milk ratio to get it to the best taste and to fill my cup (the manual gives instructions on making the button remember the amounts).

On first impressions, I like the machine.

  • +1

    Still waiting

  • Give some reviews guys, if you have it already.

    • I might get in touch with map today, as there must be something wrong with my machine.

I've tried a wide variety of pods and they are all tasting bitter. I'm not sure if the machine has got the water too hot, or is pouring too slowly or what - but not good at all.

The milk is frothing really well and machine appears to be pretty well built etc.

  • I received the pods but no machine wtf?

  • +6

17 days and still no dispatch notice. What a stuff up. I hope all of us still waiting are going to get double the amount of pods. Step up Map Coffee and keep your customers happy.

    • +1

Have been pretty patient so far, but agree this is starting to drag out, especially give we have all paid in full.

      • Agreed still waiting patiently.

Only seems like those who have received the offer of a white one are the only ones waiting. Must be on back order or something?

Maybe they are waiting for some people to opt for a refund instead as the wait has been long enough.

Wonder how long this will drag out?

        • No idea, but doubling the pods would definitely be appreciated, haha

        • Update
Received my tracking number (White machine). So hopefully I will see this on Monday.

  • WEll, eventually I have received a shipping notice. It looks like there are 2 items so will be interesting to see if Startrack can actually get it right and deliver 2.

Just a bit more waiting to go….

    cheers

    • did you pester them just now or did they do it on their own accord?

      • NO, I have emailed them a couple of times, but they just send out the same reply, It will be sent in 5-10 days. So I guess its just a waiting game. They musnt employ many staff for it to take 3 weeks to get orders sent out.

        cheers

        • by the looks of it, they don't hold much stock as well…

        • @JetLi:

Mate - there was a tonne of orders.. well over what they would normally get.

No way they would normally hold that much stock

        • @deeps: well they are the national distributor…

  • My white one arrived today. Made 2 cups of coffee with it so far. We like lots of milk with our coffee so after the latte cycle finished, mug was half full, we just pressed steamed milk to top up the cup and the coffee tasted quite nice. Will have to program it to be 3/4 full of milk. No coffee grounds in cup.

Machine feels solid and happy with purchase (despite the wait)

  • Just got mine.

Not sure if I'm doing something wrong but the dispensing sprout doesn't go fully horizontal when you lift it? Normal?

    • That's normal.
Also doesn't have to be opened at all for small cups which is nice.

  • Arrived finally.

  • Hi, Just got the White one. However all the push buttons have no colours at all eg,according to the manual and picture there are green, yellow, white buttons. Can those who have received their machine, please confirm whether the buttons are coloured or not.

    • +1

Buttons are not coloured but the lights behind them are.

      • Thanks Badarz. Thought I got a reject one so didn't power it on.

  • Received my machine last week. However I noticed that some of the capsules (about 20%) will release lots of fine ground coffee which makes the coffee taste very bad, almost like Chinese medicine. Does anyone has this issue? I have used different brand machines for many years. This is the first time I saw this problem. I think they may have severe quality control issues for the same batch of capsules. I will contact the company soon to see how it goes.

    • Didn't have this issue at all, only once but it was my fault as I accidentally reused a used capsule. Otherwise my machine has been making great coffee I am impressed.

Sounds like your machine is faulty, get it replaced or capsules u got have faulty filters

      • Thanks for your information. They are all brand-new original map capsules that come with the machine, not reused one. Interestingly all the reused one are good! Because of the issue, I am now prefer to reuse rather than the originals. So far I have reused more than 50 capsules and none of them have problems. Wired.

    • Interesting… I've not really paid a lot of attention to the ground coffee at the bottom due to the amount of foam usually at the bottom of the mug. I'll pay attention to this, as I too have been getting really bad tasting coffee.. I've tried different pods though and all the same result.

Is there a way to control the amount of foam it puts out?

      • Yeah, first time seen by myself in the last 5 years. This is not a small amount of dust that goes to the bottom of mug. It is a large amount! It will make the coffee bitter as hell, not drinkable at all. Opening the problematic capsules, you will find maybe a quarter of coffee ground has been released. My assumption is some of the capsules may not have enough coffee packed at the beginning. Because the coffee ground is too loose , it may be flushed out by high-pressure hot water.

        • How did you go contacting them about your issue with the excessive coffee grind in the bottom of the cup? I'm having a similar problem.

        • @JetLi: I have just left a message in here http://mapcoffee.com.au/contacts/index/ will give them a call if they did not reply me tomorrow.

    • That happened to my $59 Officeworks Map unit. I was hoping it was just a problem with the el cheapo model, but it seems it's a problem across the board with Map or Caffitaly.

  • +1

Just a tip for those looking for decaf for ur night coffee drink. Woolworths select decaf caps are fantastic

  • Any deals on Nespresso. What a mess

  • Question
I really like the ORO blend from Vittoria coffee and wondered if anyone knows if there might be a similar blend in the Caffitaly universe?

    • +1

The map capsules are maybe the easiest to refill and reuse in the market. Try it.

  • Just arrived today.

They didn't even bother to put it inside another box, or wrap it in paper to hide what it is. It was meant as a gift for Father's day, but I guess he knows now.

  • Oh well, mine arrived today, no packaging like the post above, but that's ok, arrived in one piece. You would wonder why it would of taken more than 3 weeks to process orders when the only packaging required was to throw some pods into a box.
Even picked up a few more pods from Woollies this morning for only $4 a packet.

Machine seems pretty good once you work it out.

    cheers

  • I've been using this machine for the last week and I'm quite impressed. I tweaked the Cafe latte option to pour 110ml of milk and 40ml coffee. Just great coffee. Tried a few other pods and like the medium roast Map capsules too.

  • I have a question about the milk carafe. It says to fill it to a level between the MIN and MAX level. Does that mean you can never run down the milk tank below the MIN level, and will always be wasting milk? Or can you still run it till it's empty? If so, I don't see why it needed to be above the MIN level in the first place.

This thing is looking like a pain to clean.

That straw is sticky and sticks to the inside of the milk jug, affecting its positioning and ability to suck up milk at the bottom of the jug.

Dispensing frothed milk creates a very shrill and ear-piercing noise. Yuck.

Cleaning the milk carafe requires disassembling it into several parts, some of which are very small and easy to lose. This is going to be a pain to clean. Yeah I think I'm definitely going to stick with my Aerocino which is so much easier to clean.

I've yet to make a coffee. Still in the cleaning (and drying) process. I just hope no one loses my parts.

    • I've used it until well below the MIN line without issue. I think the MIN is a guide showing how much is expected to be used in one serve.
Yeah the aeroccino is easier to clean but after every use vs. every week with this one.

      • This one has rubber parts that attract dust. Not good since liquid is going to flow past them and into your cup.

You also have to wait for parts to dry.

The Aero is easier enough to clean that I'd prefer to clean it 7 times than clean this once. I'm going to use this for a week to see how it goes. Unless it blows me away, I'll be going back to the Aero. Less parts to clean, and I don't need to flush the remaining milk in the machine out into a separate cup after every use and have to clean that cup as well.

The MIN level is far more than you're going to need in one serve.

  • +1

I made my first coffee just now. I bought a pack of Map Cappucino pods on special right now at Woolies for $4.

It tastes very diluted. Looking at the cup, it's the right amount but it just tastes like there's too much water. The cup is also not very hot. It seems a touch hotter than warm. I guess it's comfortable to drink but I preferred the heat of my previous Map machine.

When I pressed the red (recirculate) button that flushes out the remaining milk in the system, I watched the straw and noticed that water is being ejected into the milk jug. Is this normal?

I did not notice any coffee grounds in the cup unlike with my old system. But I will have to check again tomorrow when I pour another one. In my old system the previous pod's grounds were still in the system and needed to be flushed out before a new cup is poured.

    • Received mine, works ok. Good that you can adjust the amount of water pumped through the capsule for short/longs etc.

The problem is that for latte/cap function the milk frother doesn't make the milk hot enough. Warm coffee is not hot coffee. The solution for now was to use the milk frother from the old Nespresso machine and use the new one just for coffee. Not bad because then you don't have to mess around with the milk container. I'd suggest the milk frother is ok for hot chocolates for the kids because it won't burn them but won't cut it for coffees.

      • I'm going to do that too but for a different reason. The milk carafe has to be disassembled into many parts, some being very small. It's a matter of time before I lose a part and make the whole thing worthless.

  • Still haven't received mine?

    • update Map tracked the parcel for me and found that it has been stuck at the Startrack depot. I called Startrack and they apologised as they don't know why it got stuck. Totally not Map's fault and great customer service in tracking it for me.

  • finally got delivered today

  • Build quality is good and nice to have customisation of serving size but find the quality of the coffee poor compared to Nespresso pods, the included coffee pods gets watery quick and unacceptable amounts of coffee grinds ends up in the cup, which I never experienced any grind with the Nespresso machine. Overall disappointed coming from Nespresso.

    • What do you mean the coffee pod gets watery quick

      • It's seems the coffee in the pod doesnt seem to brew well within the machine, the coffee coming out of the spout gets very diluted really quick, the lungo and cafe latte pre programmed settings are way too watery/diluted. Maybe it's the quality of the coffee in the pods.

        • Totally understand. Have the same problem. Tried 3 different pods and all are the same very watery/diluted with no flavour. Has anyone found a way around this?
We have found no coffee grounds in any of the cups we have made and no trouble with how hot it is either. Probably too hot really buts that's ok.
If anyone knows how to make a decent mocha out of this machine that is not watery/diluted. Please leave some instructions.
          Thanks

        • @champstarr:

Have you tried resetting the amount of water that flows through the pod

        • @tith:

I've dropped the lungo down to 100ml (reckon I need to drop it further to around 90), improves it slightly but coffee still lacks body and flavour compared to nespresso. I reckon the pods included aren't great, probably why they gave them away as part of this deal. Have to give the other pods a try.

        • I agree to this. It lacks consistency too. Sometimes it seem to brew better!! Im going to try my store bought plunger coffee in the pods. I hope its the coffee and not the machine!

        • I can vouch for this.

I felt my coffee tasted very diluted also, even though the amount of liquid in the cup is the same as other machines and is the correct amount. It just tasted wrong.

        • @tith: Tried resetting the water but doesn't help. Making coffee exactly the same in two machines and this new one just makes coffee really diluted with no taste. Can't figure out why. Might have to send back I guess

        • @champstarr: Does it have a bitter after taste as a result of this?

I cut open one of my capsules and the grind smells really badly burnt…

Spoke to MAP and they've told me to try other capsules - i've already tried 5 different types :S

        • @deeps: It depends on which pod I'm using. Definitely bitter with the pods they sent out.
I rang Phillips customer care but they were no help they said to go through mapcoffee with the warranty to get it looked at. Great, another month of waiting

        • @champstarr:

Let me know how you go - I don't have grinds in my coffee but it's still bitter.

I don't think it's the capsules - as everyone would be complaining - and after trying so many different types, i'm convinced it's the machine.

Map are confident it's not the machine though…

        • @deeps: How many pods have you tried? It could be a bad batch of pods. I get them in mine, but not on every pod. Some do, some don't.

        • @lostn:

Tried 5 or 6 different types

          Tried:

Portofino: Bitter aftertaste - drinkable but not brilliant

Gloria Jeans Smooth : not bitter but it's a very weak coffee… tried double shot (two different pods), and slightly bitter.

          Gloria Jeans strong: Undrinkably bitter

Woolworths medium: probably the best of the lot but still bitter aftertaste.

          Map Venezia : bitter again

Gloria Jeans hot Chocolate: (I know not coffee), tastes watered down but not bad.

        • +1

@deeps: Just a heads up on the hot chocolate. Have been told to press the button to release a little water into the choc pod then stop and wait a bit for choc to dissolve and then press the button again to proceed and do this twice per cup to make it have more flavour. The machine isn't made for hot chocolate because the water pressure is too high i was told.

Talked to mapcoffee today about the poor performance of machine and they gave me the tip above and they walked me through making a coffee. Not much help though still poor quality and very little crema. Which she said was unusual. Ended up saying I would try it more and get back to her tomorrow.

After a play got it to work a little better but that is with only 30ml of coffee or its too diluted and about the same with hot chocolate. Disappointing. With my old machine could press espresso 2 to 3 times and it was still full flavour with the same pods and with the choc pods could fill a full mug with full flavour with one button.

        • @champstarr: What brand was your old machine?

        • @JetLi: the original woolworths one.

        • @champstarr: So was still a MAP/Caffitaly?

        • @JetLi: Sure was. It wasn't flash but did the job well and lasted a long time. I have heard the new gen ones are not that great but haven't tried them.

        • @champstarr: well that suxs then, I'm going to stick with nespresso. Similar to your experience to date, disappointing.

        • @champstarr:

I'm going to try organise a replacement of some sort - I bought some map clean bean thing to clean the machine yesterday - as a final check.

There's definitely something wrong with the machine, it's either pouring too hot and burning the coffee or something is wrong with the pour itself. The first second or two of pour is dark and rich, but then it quickly goes to that semi clear that usually happens when too much coffee is being poured through. But i've measured the pour at 40ml.

Will call them today and see what can be done. Had a few people over lately and have asked them to try. All agree that something is off with it.

        • @champstarr:

Just spoke to MAP, who have advised they can't give me another machine, so will issue a refund once they receive the machine. No point keeping it.

A bit disappointing, i've spent a fair bit on pods already and now have a big stockpile.

Might buy the Woolies machine or something.

        • @deeps: Just rang them as well and same thing is going to happen.

If you do buy a woolworths one tell me how it goes. I have tried the map one from officeworks $79 one and that is no good as well.

Off to San churros for a decent coffee.

        • @champstarr: Just out of interest - did they say it was the first time someone had complained about their machine?

        • @deeps: Yes they did. Strongly doubt it.

        • @deeps: Just brought the woolworths s21 machine a rip off at $120 but can't knock it. Good tasting coffee and hot chocolate straight off. I even tried pressing the espresso button a few times and it still wasn't watery and tasted good.

        • @champstarr: I guess that confirms a faulty machine then eh?

Wonder if I should try another of the same machine from Kogan…

  • Having made coffee with this every day for a week I have some updated thoughts about it.

The milk really isn't hot enough. It's barely warm. This is a deal breaker.

I do like the build quality of the machine. The buttons and lights have a premium look to it.

But the coffee it brews isn't that great.

Just today I went back to using my Aeroccino and having been used to the Latte+ for a week, the coffee I made with it felt so hot! It wasn't hot enough to burn my tongue or be undrinkable, but it felt even hotter than I remember it. I'd say it's just right.

Because I don't like warm coffee, I don't really have a choice but to go back to using the Aeroccino.

In this case, I could have gone for a cheaper Map machine if I don't need the built in frother.

It doesn't beat Nespresso, but I will continue using it because I have a lot of pods for it lol.

    • Yep,the Map coffee just taste bland in comparison. Don't mind the temp of the coffee too much, but the amount of grind at bottom of cup is hard to ignore, especially when nespresso coffee has none or very little that is unnoticeable.

      • Yeah I got some grounds in my cup too. That's a shame. My old machine did it too so I thought I just had a dud machine. Seems like a design flaw by Map / Caffitaly.

        • The pods seem to use a dual plastic filtering system built into the pod, doesn't seem that effective.

  • Hi guys I got a DeLonghi bean to cup machine as a gift on father's day!

So I have no need for this machine anymore. I barely used it still have tons of pods remaining. I'm willing to sell it if anyone interested let me know

    I have the black one

  • +1

So is everyone else happy with this machine?

    • Not really.

The price was fair, but if it was $399, definitely not worth it.

Coffee is just not warm enough. I don't use the milk carafe because of it. Just as well, that thing is a pain to clean.

      • Do you generally find cafe coffee not hot enough either? Or is this much cooler than that?

        • Cafe coffee is usually a little too hot, but not everyone drinks it right away so it will eventually cool down to the right temp.

          This is only slightly warm.

  • I have the same issue with the machine, very dilluted and quite a bit of ground in the cup… just send them a email asking for a replacement.

    • hey let us know how you go. any chance of taking a photo of the ground left in the cup? i do have some but its only little.

    • They won't do a replacement. Just refund.

      • Will you have to return the pods also?

    • +1

just a update, Map reply my email the next day and schedule a phone call. it is found the coffee grind is caused by the fact that i didn't flush the machine after making milk. after flush, the grinds go away. but still, the coffee tastes very bitter, i have used a few machines, this to be honest, taste the worst, but having said that, it might be due to the pod. so i am going to get different brand to give a try… any recommendations?

      • I flush, and now don't even use the built in frother. I still get grounds. Sometimes.

Some capsules are just faulty. But a good machine should overcome this, at least that's my expectation.

Moccona and Gloria Jeans pods are alright. I can't remember if GJ was Nespresso or Caffitaly or both.

      • I flushed mine every time - def not the issue.

I cut open one of the capsules after it had been used - it smells very burnt.

I tried a whole multitude of pods and had no luck - I am sending the machine back for a refund.

  • i am having the same issue, bitter taste, coffee grind leftover on the bottom of the cup. will call them tomorrow and ask for a refund.

    • Same here. Let us know what they say

  • Interesting that a few more people with issues are now coming out.

I've just ordered the same machine off Kogan for $179 delivered. Hopefully it's not faulty too!

    • you're a brave man!

      • Seems to be quite a few happy customers on here too - i've got tonnes of pods here, and I like the look and workings of the machine.

Figured I may as well try one more time to get a working machine before I give up.

        • fair call.

  • Just received mine…quite like the coffee so far…minimal stuff on bottom of cup, couldn't really call it grinds. All good, 3 different cups of coffee before 3.30pm….I'll be awake till midnight????

Mine was a requested hold off delivery while we were away on holidays…arrived as arranged by Feebee-Lou from Map Coffee, who was only too happy to help.

Feebee-Lou gave me a follow up call at the same time I was writing an email to inform Map of a cracked water jug…no visible box or packaging was damaged, so can only conclude it came from the Factory like that…not a problem, there is a new one on the way, thanks to Feebee-Lou.

    • I'll be awake till midnight????

Depends. I have a caffeine tolerance so it doesn't do much for me.

  • Got it for a few weeks now and loving it.
I would say it tastes even better comparing to the nespresso Gemini at work. That machine just makes milk into 90% foam…
Bought some original map capsules from Coles and happy with them.
I'm not too fussy about coffee so in my view this is a great machine and great deal.
Tip my hat to map coffee who honored this deal.
seems a few people are complaining coffee grinds but I haven't noticed any.
