  • Anyone else find their Surface dock to be an absolute piece of shit?

    My SP3 has no end of issues with it

    • In doing research, this was the prevailing experience of a lot of people (particularly with respect to connecting to displays).

      I went for an SP3 docking station instead off eBay (which also suits SP4s) and couldn't be happier with it.

      • I went from a Toshiba Dynadock (Displaylink USB3 dock) to this one and while I can say I much prefer the displayport connection to my 2 external monitors, it refuses to connect from a cold boot, takes forever to wake up and sometimes reboots the surface when I wake it up.. I waste a load of time on it..

        Rebuilt the SP3 aswell, didn't help a bit, 7 people in our office experiencing the same crap.

        • Has anybody in your office found a satisfactory alternative? Looking for something reliable to run two external monitors from a SP3

        • I know where you work
          Coz seven people in my work place have the same issue.
          Personally only thing i dont like is the resign in to make the screen recognise its connected/disconnected

          @CapeFin: I'm running two screens from this dock. Wasn't easy though. Needed to install all windows 10 updates and check the list of compatible monitors from the Microsoft website. Needed to replace an old one. Now that it's set up it's great, can even connect a third monitor from the mini display port on the sp3 itself.

          @CapeFin:
          Tried ThinkPad USB 3.0 Pro/Ultra Dock?

          Most of the complaints about it are about the fact that it doesn't charge the laptop. It works well with surface pro. I think Pro is 2 HDMI but Ultra is HDMI and DP)

        • @Stegasaurusnext: OK I resisted the urge to update to windows 10… do you think I could run in to problems in that case? (still running stock 8.1)

          @CapeFin: I had no troubles on the upgrade and found the sp3 ran better on 10. Have you checked the list of compatible monitors?

          When I used my old one it just plain didn't work. Bought a new one, worked kind of ok, bit intermittent on connection but then installed latest updates and was perfect.

          @Stegasaurusnext:

          I had lots of bluescreen crashes after wake with the dock and Surface Pro 3.

          Finally gone away after the August 2016 firmware update (and Windows 10 anniversary update).

          There is a dock firmware update as well. You need the dock firmware tool to update it.

          Unfortunately the Dell 25" monitor is on the list of faulty monitors. I have a 27" Kogan DP chained and I need to turn it off/on sometimes to get it to detect.

  • does anyone know is it 110v or 240V

  • These are a nightmare to get working with surface 4 and books but once everything aligns they work great, that may not be a quick process though.

  • use the $40 off AMEX at mwave
    Dell UHD 4K USB3.0 Port Replicator D3100 - 452-11714

    similar price with more ports! thou cannot charge the surface at the same time~

  • Reader reviews, a lot of people said it doesn't work. The display port or something.

  • Key issue is actually the OEM mini display port adaptors. Buy the M/Soft ones (or the Belkin ones) and it works fine. These are also eye wateringly expensive… we just bought x40 for my company !
