Bought one to play around with, though could be an expensive exercise to replace all of the downlights!

Looking forward to trying waking up to it and trying to integrate with Logitech hub + Kodi

    • +2

I'd suggest leaving the downlights and using lamps. This way it's portable and you still have your original system if you want to flog the house or whatever.

  • I bought 2 of these at HV on special and then fell in love with them we now have 9 throughout the house, simply amazing and easy!

    • Great to hear Morty!!

Looks fun bought one for the bedroom.

  • i have a halogen light on a dimmer switch. is it ok to replace this with lifx?

    • Should be fine if you have the dimmer set to 100%. You can then use the app to dim the LEDs. If you use the dimmer to try and control them they will just turn off at a certain point on the dimmer.

I was considering hue and never heard of lifx. Now I bought 4 based on the positive feedback in these comments

I kmow nothing about network lights.

I know a bit about tasker and have automated kodi etc.

Any good tutorials/guides to build quick tasker profiles? I need some ideas

I use "voxcommando" on my pc which uses voice commands to perform tasks etc.

Welcome to the family. We are happy to have you onboard. Sounds like you are going to have some fun with them. Check out https://community.lifx.com/ if you are going to get into the code side of things.

  • How many lumens?

      1. So similar to a 75W incandescent but only 17W at full brightness.

This discount is very interesting, thx for sharing

  • had never considered smart bulbs before, did my research and these are awesome. got 2, and i just know i'll wish i bought more haha

  • Hi

So if i purchase one bulb than do i need to have any other kit in order to connect to wifi?

We can change color via mobile app?

    Thank you!

    • +1

No hub needed. As long as you have wifi at home you are good to go.

Download the app and connect the bulbs to your wifi and you'll be changing colour and temperatures in minutes.

      • Ok

Do they work without wifi to use as basic bulb?

        Thank you!

        • +1

It does work as a normal globe. As I bought x8 and can confirm. Cheees

  • What happens during a power cut? Do they switch on by themselves when the power comes back on?

    • +1

Yes if on at the switch they would turn back on. Similar to how they behave if you turn off at the switch and back on.

But we see lots of people still use the wall switch. Hard habit for people to break.

      • +1

Wall switch is often within reach as you exit the room. It also cut the power draw down to 0.

Thanks very much for running this special again. I ordered one to try out a month or so ago and have been very happy with it. I just ordered two more. :)

    • +1

Nice one! Glad you are enjoying them :)

  • Hi OP, Since the price is in USD, will I be charged currency conversion fee by Paypal ?

    • Yes I believe they charge 3.5% above the wholesale exchange rate

      • +1

Thanks, Just ordered two. The most expensive bulb I ever bought is $5. Let's see how different a $40 bulb is …!

  • +1

Does this light bulb have disco mode, where the light flickers in different colours like a disco light?

    • +1

Yes, even better it can use pick up the hear the music via your phone and change colour and brightness to the beat of. the music. And you can strobe if that's your thing :)

  • Is there any chance I can get White ones in Screw Type?

    • Sorry all sold out.

      • Any chance of putting it on a back-order at this price?

        • They are no longer being produced. So only the grey screw is left.

      • +1

reading this out of context made me impulse buy one

  • Is the B22 or E27 fitting better? I'm going to have to install some.

    • Neither is better. There seems to be more lamps that use the E27 screw though so that may help.

      • Cheers. The pins on the B22 just looked like they might shear off easy or something.

  • +1

Rep, hopefully Telink complete their roll out of ADRC (Xped) enabled IOT chips fast so the next gen bulbs work cross all platforms and brands.

  • +1

    Thanks OP. Just bought two.

  • Is this for illumination (i.e. to light up the room) or decoration (i.e. mood light)?

    • The bulbs are over 1000 lumens so will light up a bedroom room and can also be used for mood lighting in lamps etc…

      • Hi, I ordered two but now decided on one, how do I cancel and get partial refund

        • What is your order number? I can sort it out for you.

        • Send you a private message with order number

  • Who is Edison?

  • Bought these last time I saw them on OZB. Do not recommend. Lots of of difficulty with the App seeing them, have to frequently power cycle the light.

    • +1

Sorry to hear. Have you tried the LIFX support team? - WiFi connection can be impacted by lots of things. Let's get it sorted for you or even upgrade them if needed.

  • What type of lighting mount do new houses have? My house is currently being built and I am not sure what type of bulb to buy…

    • Hace you done the electrical diagram? You'll be able to choose what fittings, type, etc

      • I just have the standard white bulb holders. Nothing over and above the very basic.

    • It would be the type that would work with these bulbs I'm almost certain.

      • Im not sure if its bayonet or screw. Ill call the builder today…

        • Ours were bayonet throughout.

  • Can you control these from 2 phones so the Mrs & I can both use it? Or are they just linked to one app?

    • +2

We control our bedroom lamps from 2 phones. Just log in with the same account and you can see all the same lights and groups.

    • If both phones are on the home wifi you can control from either of them. Or an iPad even.

    • Most certainly! You can have the one cloud account on many devices - works well for me and the Mrs

Bought. This is going to be awesome.

    • +1

      Ohh yeah!!!

  • when will be promotion on color 1000?

    • Most likely around November during the US Sales season.

      • Would the price be close to what it is on this bulb?

        • Hasn't been confirmed yet. But the prices are always pretty awesome over that week.

  • It seems they've run out of Bayonet Cap. Just about to pull the trigger.

  • Is there pearl white for E27 Edison?

    • No they are all gone. Only the gun metal grey left.

      • Thanks, anymore coming in soon?

        • No these are the LIFX Original bulbs so no longer are produced. The new model Color 1000 is available in E27 Screw in pearl white. www.lifx.com/products/color-1000

  • just bought one to play with, after all the positive comments.

    • Great to hear. Welcome to LIFX!

  • How long will shipping to Canberra be on this ?

    • Within Australia we use Aus Post from our Sydney warehouse, so I would estimate around 2-3 business days.

  • How long would i take to ship to Sydney? I ordered on this morning at 5:00am

    • Generally, it takes 24-48 hours to ship however we are experiencing a high volume of orders (thanks to this fantastic community). Just email [email protected] if you don't have the shipping email within the timeframe I mentioned

  • So I see dimming in the app goes down to 1%.
Does it actually achieve this? Just wondering how it would go for the kids night light (as well as their main light).

    • +1

I find that 100% is actually a bit bright, and 1% is only just enough light to see by, so this may work for you quite well. Obviously, if the bulb is in a lamp it may shine a little dimmer than in the ceiling.

      • Thanks. It would be in a bare batten so probably be good. The extra brightness might be good too, currently have 800 lumen which are ok but sometimes need that little bit more.

        Almost convinced myself ;)

        • Anything I can do to convince you :)

    • +1

We use one in our daughter's room and we have it set to automatically change to 300 (Purple) and 4% brightness each night @ 8pm and it's dark enough for them to sleep, but bright enough they're not freaking out. Then at 10:30pm, it turns itself off. One of the best purchases/products I've made.

  • Sorry, I am pretty tech savy, but I cant find this answer….
Can they be used as a stndard light, ie if I flick my normal switch will they work like normal light in that..
1/ Turns on basic white colour even if another colour as last used
2/ I assume these need to be always on at the switch for standby - but if switched off at switch and then back on will they turn on?
3/ If I turn it off in the app, can I trun it back on at wall

I realise this is all the same qtn.. but basically can my mrs use it as a standard light switch style - id hate to go look for phone just to turn a light on or off?

    • 1) Yes, they can be used like a normal light (ie. if you turn it purple in the app and the turn the light off at the power, just turn it on and off twice to reset to a bright white)
      2) Yes, if you want them to be controllable by the app. When you turn them on again at the switch they will resume their connection with our cloud the then become controllable.
      3) Yes, you will have to turn the switch off, then on to receive whatever the last colour was last used in the app. Then repeat step 1 if you need a white.

      • just turn it on and off twice to reset to a bright white

I've had these lights for a while and never knew this! Good to know, as I prefer it going to bright white instead of last colour when I use the physical switch.

Any other tricks that aren't commonly known?

        • You may want to check out our integration with IFTT (if you don't yet know about it). You can do heaps of cool stuff with this!

          https://ifttt.com/lifx

  • What's the difference between the original model (the one advertised) and the new colour 1000?
These lights are so exciting. What a time to be alive!

    • +1

You can view the differences by the links below. Not much difference really.

      http://www.lifx.com/pages/color-1000-info-sheet
      http://www.lifx.com/pages/the-original-info-sheet

    • I have both. To summarise the main differences:

      • newer one uses max of 11 watts power vs 17 watts
      • newer one is a bit smaller
      • the older one takes ages (took a few hours for me) to update the firmware for the first time, which I think is needed for the cloud features in the app. Not sure why it takes so long, people here are saying half an hour, but I think the app on my phone must have got interrupted a few times.

At this price, I bought another 2 originals despite the above points

      • +1

Spot on. Once that first firmware update is done future updates should be similar.

Trick for updating. Do one at a time when you get them. And if you want to keep using your phone, do it via the desktop updater: http://www.lifx.com/pages/updates

  • i purchased 3 last time ozbargained
was hoping it can be bright enough for a small bedroom but it's still not bright enough

    • 3 isn't bright enough all on at once on white at full brightness?

      • no i mean 1 for one room
you know usually the builder only put one light fitting per room

        • Oh, right. I wouldn't really expect 1 to be enough for any room except a toilet. Ordered two for my own room yesterday. Hopefully they illuminate well.

        • +1

@bananabendera: 1000 lumens is approx. 75Watt in the old incandescent bulb style if that help. I have two in a long hallway at home and they light it up very well. Beam angle also plays a part as the bulbs diffuser is not round so the beam angles downwards at 130 degrees rather than 360.

  • Is there some link somewhere to the full specifications (physical / technical)?

  • Hi OP, with these batch do we need to perform firmware upgrade on them or are they all up to date?

    • They will need an update as these are likely to be on firmware 1.5. If you have 1 or 2 use the App. If to update a few go for the desktop updater. http://www.lifx.com/pages/updates
