    • Whats the surcharge at society ?

      • $0.6

        • Society have realized about amex offer and charging $1 per transaction

        • @spk:
really he told me it is 2% = $0.6. You could send an email to Amex and request for credit back.

        • @LoveBargain15: I did ask him about that and he replied $0.6 for other credit cards and $1 for amex

        • @spk:
          Lucky me?

    • any surcharge?

    • +1

Just went to the society convenience store - they reached their daily opal limit so don't bother going today!

      • Wow, is that a thing too ?

        • Yep. There's only so much topping-up an Opal retailer can do. Woolworths in Chatswood had the same problem at one stage from what I remember reading on here.

  • Arrgh. The Shop Small online map is so useless!
Almost impossible to navigate and zoom in on iOS Chrome.

Anyone have a list of the most retailers near Kew/Hawthorn Victoria that are participating?

        • +1

@AG1304x: they are on the map

  • Any recommendations in WA? Any participating Smartrider top up outlets, fuel stations or similar? (like most of the fellow Ozbargainers from Sydney are going spending on)

    • +1

I only managed to find one fuel station in Perth (in Osborne Park) during the Shop Small promotion last November, but they don't appear to be on the map this time. Pharmacies seem to be the best bet for me, stocking up on Aim toothpaste, toilet paper, cleaning products and tissues that are on special etc. Did my 3 shops this morning at Optimal Pharmacy Carine, Superchem Stirling and Greg's Discount Chemist at Mirrabooka Square and have received confirmation emails for all three.

Note: Greg's at Mirrabooka had a couple of clearance tables of a variety of products - they're moving a few doors up soon (and becoming a Chemmart in the process) so looks like they're trying to clear some stuff. Got some good deals on toothpaste (Aim 75c, Colgate Sensitive $3.50) and some Cenovis vitamins as well (especially once the $10 credit is applied, as I usually only spend just over $20 each time :) )

VIC: Just topped up my Myki at Victoria Harbour Pharmacy on Merchant St, just off Bourke. They didn't seem to know about the Shop Small promotion despite having a sign at the cashier, but they were willing to process five $20 transactions. Got five emails from Amex as confirmation afterwards. No surcharge.

Anyone else find any other places around the CBD to top up Mykis that are part of the promotion this year?

    • I just been there and missed the boat, they caught wind of that promotion and now restrict myki top ups to 1 amex card per person (with posters to that effect as well), tried to reason with her but she won't budge, guess we can cross this off the list unless someone is close to Docklands and won't mind a walk for $10.

      • +1

PO's just been lucky. I went there early morningand they already restricted 1 card only.

      • Wow, really? Lucky I went there early then - I got there at 8:45 or so and it seemed like I was the first one who had tried it there, as they were really curious and asked a lot of questions.

        • Gosh, I was like 15 minutes late!

      • I went there in the evening and did 5x$20 myki topup with no surcharge.Even though there is a poster displaying only one card per myki, she accepted to recharge and split across 5 cards.

private message me for details of 3locations i know of that should be open on weekends too

      • Why the negs?

        I know of 7 locations.
        Most of which opens Sundays.

Private msg me and i most probably will share successful locations.

        • +5

Because you're not sharing - unlike everyone else around here.

        • -1

          @roughana:

Private message me and ill gladly share.

As you have noticed; many of previous amex shop small stores have stopped. Petrol/ Fuel.

I will be more than glad to share my hour of work with you with address.

Trolls on OzB have ruined some really good deals in the past (annoyed retail staff at busy hours demanding 10+ x $20 transactions)

Thus; if u PM me i can ensure you are if in the OzB family.

  • Anyone else having issues with businesses that showed up on the map when you registered the card on the 13th, but they no longer appear today no matter how much I play around with the filters and map. I had a BWS drive through show up the 13th in Narre Warren (VIC), but it no longer shows up today (yes I know it's not technically a small shop!) and a Brumby's bakery in Berwick that's also disappeared

    • just search their name and see if it is show up, if not possibly they are out. BTW do not know why BWS is small shop .

      • Yeah I was surprised when I saw it on there earlier this week, but suppose they realised it shouldn't have been there and took it down.

        • I noticed that for 2 places today too, but when i search for them by name they do then appear. I went to one, a small grocery store, and did get the email afterwards.

    • Looks like the Berwick Brumbys has closed.

  • Tong Li Supermarket at various suburbs are on the list. Are they counted as one or different business?

    • I think they are different, there are many EZYMART and CITY Convenience Store but they are counted as different too

    • Can you tell me how did you go? My sister said last time she went to Asfield one (not during shop small) they told her they don't take Amex :(

  • +1

anyone finding MYKI top ups in the western suburbs Mel ?

  • Amcal chemist seems to be good value.

    Quilton Toilet Tissue - 10 Pack $5.00

    Colgage 100g toothpast $2

    radiant 500g $3

    • Wont be better value than OPAL top up IMO

  • Anyone found any fuel stations?

  • +4

successfully topped up opal card at 3 places in Sydney cbd using 2 amex cards.

Darling park , sussex st- $0.4/trx
    Society, philip st - $1/trx
    Menzies/Ezymart - $1/trx

Received 5 emails, except for 1 at darling park.

  • How do they know if you are buying gift cards?

    • +1

There is a rarely used feature of the card transaction message that can communicate that the purchase is for a gift card. In practice, they don't know.

      • I was thinking of buying some vouchers from the sushi place to use with their buffets.

  • +1

Elizabeth Pharmacy in Melbourne doesn't seem to be part of the Smalls Shops anymore! Didn't get any email confirmation, and the map doesn't show them anymore……
Lady who served was a little on the stressed side too

    • After they charge $1 surcharge in the last few shop small promotions, they deserve that !

      • Yes she even made you feel guilty for going to them.. made you wait after she served all the customers behind me too.

No email from AMEX still after 1hr…..zzzzz fail

  • can someone find Wu's Pharmacy sydney in Map, I tried looking but can't find it but I thought someone commented before it was showing in the Map

    • yeah not sure if they are in this time. Just did a top up there this morning and still haven't received any emails.

      • Wu's showed up when I had a look on the map last night. They weren't on the map for the previous Shop Small event. Maybe map data is wrong and why it's currently offline?

  • +1

    FYI
Daily News on 452 Little Collins Melbourne no longer accept AMEX for Myki topups
Swanston Street Lotto 227 Collins St is no longer showing in AMEX Small Shops map

Anyone else had a successful AMEX Myki topup today in Melbourne?

    • "My Office" 500 Collins st NOT accepting AMEX for Myki topup

    • Gee, Daily News on 452 Lt Collins Melbourne is right on Shop Small map, with a balloon.

      • But address of Daily News on the map is 448 LITTLE COLLINS STREET. Is that another Daily News?

        • The same one. They were good with Amex Myki topup last shop-small in November 2015. Unfortunately, not anymore

  • anything good in southbank / south melbourne? (market even)

    • Noticed simply spanish!

  • used 2 at FRIENDLIES CHEMIST 849 HAY STREET , PERTH

    • Can I ask how you find Huxtaburger - Eastland?
I tried to type huxraburger in name and only comes up the one in Prahran and Hawthorn.

    • Hong Mart in Burwood East (at Burwood One)
      Palm's in Mount Waverley

    • Quality Pharmacy at Burwood One (Burwood East); 3% charge for Amex

for those in the wild wild west of sydney (parramatta):
NSW CONVENIENCE STORE: 119A MACQUARIE STREET, $1 surcharge, verified with emails
River cat Convenience: shop 8-9 30-32 charlies st, not accepting amex for opal (WTF!)

  • Anyone had any luck in Brisbane with topping up Go Cards or the like?

I can't see any newsagents on the Brisbane City map (no dots or balloons)

    • +1

Nextra Garden City Level 1 and 2

      • But are they a part of the amex deal?

  • +1

    map not working

  • Just bought something from Beautiful Pages in Darlinghurst but no e-mail … Was it because I used ExpressPay?

Edit: Just got it! Now at Oxford St Newsagency …

Edit #2: 50 cent surcharge unless you buy something else with your top-up. You can buy one Redskin (I bought a pack of Werther's Originals)

  • spar express artarmon wasn't listed last couple of times and still isn't but some people claimed they got the amex cashback from there. has anyone tried this time around?

    • It is not on the map, so I won't be trying it.

  • For those in Canberra looking for pharmacies
Capital Chemist Waramanga, Hughes, and Kingston all show up on the map and take Amex.
Waramanga will split payments over multiple cards :-) Not sure about the other 2, they should be able to.
    edit: No surcharge either

  • Time to make a list and report to Amex those shops don't take Amex cards or impose surcharge and minimum order. I went to a shop this morning and the minimum order is $30 if I use Amex, another shop imposed 2% surcharge and I just walked away.

    • Why don't you complete whatever transaction you wanted anyway, then complain? You're still ahead by making the transaction with such surcharges.

      • Lost opportunity to spend that money in other shops, maybe.

  • can the purchase be made online rather than their physical store?

    • It depends, once I made a purchase online with Grown alchemist, and I surprised to receive amex shop small notification from it.

      • the terms and conditions say no..
