10-30% off Storewide - Masters Home Improvement: from Monday 29/8

1800

10-30% off Storewide. Starts Monday. Photo taken from store

As reported in The Age:

Masters fire sale to start Monday

items that rarely went on special like power tools would move the fastest and the company would track items "scientifically, on a day-by-day basis" to decide when prices needed to be dropped as the closing date approached.

    • I thought mitre 10 was buying over home hardware from woolies after masters gets liquidated?

      • Yes, but I thought they would buy Masters too

        • +2

Not sure Metcash could afford that

        • +3

It's not a matter of affording it, but why buy a lemon.

Masters is a money pit and no one or no company could turn it around

  • +4

When I click on the OP's linked photo it is tagged as "gigantic" and "penis". What the hell?

    • Yeah, noticed too!

    • +44

mine says "bargain" and "SSD". pretty sure it uses your last google search

      • Chuckle

      • +1

What are you guys talking about? It says "happy ending" and "massage" on mine!

        • +16

My son was searching recipes last so I guess that explains it reading as cream pie.

    • Too much funny everyone. Thanks for the laughz.

  • +4

I wonder if their high end electricals like fridges and washing machines will get to 25 or 30% or just stay at 10% next week.

  • Bah, i noticed the stuff i was interested in, has gone up in earlier in the year.

  • The past few catalogues we've seen had items/ranges at 30%-50% off.
Not expecting their expensive items like Fluke, Webber and the white goods to be more than 10% off.

  • All I'm hoping to get is a mop and bucket, clamps and various measuring tools

  • +1

Hi rep, what percentage discount will be on power tool?

You are a great online marketing team, sad to see Masters is closing.

    • We will find out the offers Monday morning

    • Just make sure you do your research on competitor pricing, as I've found Masters power tools to be quite expensive compared to other retailers of the same brands. You might get some good deals on their entry level self branded stuff though.

      • Thanks.

Yes, definitely check price, otherwise a failed bargainer.

Now also have to factor in warranty hassle. 10 - 20% discount on power tools probably isn't trigger pulling.

      • You might get some good deals on their entry level self branded stuff though.

Sorry to repeat a question in the forum, but on such items is it safe to assume that there will be no warranty whatsoever after December 2016 (because the manufacturer will essentially cease to legally exist)? Because if that is so, then it is arguably not worth buying sommat like a power-tool/battery/etc., even at 30% off…

        • +1

Woolworths are handling the warranty after masters close.

Was at Masters today looking for the $15 window cleaner from the new catalogue, was told by the staff that the catalogue was withdrawn (but they will still honor the mentioned price today), saw those window cleaners on display for normal price $39.
So if the max discount is 30%, the window cleaner should be at least $27.3 on Monday. (instead of $15 in the catalogue).
I think I might give the initial phase of the fire sale a miss and let the crowd grab what they perceive as a bargain. Either way, I'm going to end up buying things I don't need, so might as well wait. Just hope the staff don't get too greedy in stashing the real bargains at the back.
Will be sad to see Masters go though.

    • Masters Hoxton Park have a pallet of these and they scan in at $15. Picked up a couple on Thursday.

      • Are they any good ?

        • will be trying it out some time this week,
but as i was paying for them SOMEBODY said "don't buy them" XD
i figured id give em a shot for $15

        • @Hiroko:

I'd say that's just a general statement about these things.. I don't think the runtime is that great, so not great if you have a fair few windows to do.

    • It says it's got a Samsung 2Ah cell in it, guessing probably an 18650 so could pull it out to use in a torch if all else fails (not that it would be a cheap or high capacity battery, but better than nothing)

  • How are they going to do this? Will they just list the stuff that has more than 10% off? Or don't you know till you get it to the register?
There is going to be a lot of stuff to mark up if they don't do it by sections you would think.

    • +1

Discount tickets are going up tomorrow night, believe it will done by sections in the aisle.

  • Bunnings will start to buy the masters sites. Replace masters banner with bunnings. Win

  • Does someone want to line up at 7am Monday morning and report back what the discounts are? I couldn't be bothered.

    • +8

Can you msg me your mobile number?

  • I have some cancelled orders from 2 weeks ago yet to be refunded, will these be refunded normally?

    • +1

Yes you will. Probably best to call Masters on 1300 707 337 to follow it up though.

Sort of glad to see them going finally. I've had nothing but problems, and really crap Service at the Rouse hill and St Marys stores Sydney.
Such a joke, here they where complaining about another customer in front of us… all while 7 of us are waited patiently for them to finish gas bagging. This is way back i'd imagine the're worse now.
Zero customer service skills, i wouldn't even trust them to sell gum let alone run my shop.

Masters stores are often pretty much women staff only ( I have no issue with women but sometimes its nice to speak to someone that has some idea of the product and these old chooks understand nothing )
They had no idea of where many products are located let alone what, with a combined total IQ of about 27 … Sad to see this is the bst thy could do, no wonder they went down in a flaming heap.

N get this, I asked if my refund ( after 3 weeks of calls ) was via paypal or Credit card, same response 4 times…. sorry i can't tell you, I'm not able to find out as I've only been here a month….
I finally asked to speak to the manager, "maybe they could help me out "..
Response: I am the store manager !
    HA !!!
Thanks Masters, you've been a great laugh ! To all those lazy bums in store, don't let the door hit your ass on the way out.
    Good luck finding another Job…
To all the others that are actually working at Masters, feel for you big time, wish you all the best, choose wisely.

    • Yep. Pretty accurate.

To those who actually worked, good luck. To those who don't have a clue about customer service, good riddance!

  • wanted to apply for the masters charge card but they took it off online. does any one know if you can still apply for it instore?

    • +11

Still chasing a ticket to onboard titanic?

  • +1

If its anything like the DS final sales it will be terrible and a waste of time. Hopefully not for those that bother going along.

  • +6

I was in store today. Jam packed at Box Hill was hard to get a car park

The irony was if all these customers came there when the store was trading they probably would not be closing now

I couldn't help but laugh to myself to see the vultures who didn't support the business suddenly come in for a bargain whereas all of us here have been getting the true deals all along supporting the business

    • +2

What exactly are these vultures looking for? The firesale doesn't officially start until next week?

      • +2

Exactly. It was mixed all over the shop. Point being shame they didn't support the business earlier as if they had the customer numbers they had there probably wouldn't be. Losing

      • +1

It is box hill after all. Be interested to see what goes on sale tomorrow. Anything less than 30% wouldn't be much intersting

    • I also noticed this but the store still seemed empty.

    • +1

So you were not part of Vulture Squad?

      • Well arguably yes although I knew that the sale didn't start until next week so www looking in the Father's Day catalogue

        • +1

Haha, it seems the population of Vultures will spike tomorrow morning all around Australia! Count me in too!

        • @some_one_some_where: I must admit I'm planning if I get up early enough to detour in before work

        • +1

@chrig: My plans better…I might not be feeling very well after a wander in there to go back to work! Heavy trolley did my back or the Flu! I will get something from there;)

  • While warranties will be honoured by the manufacturer, make sure you check they are easy to deal with eg you might need to ship a electrical tool interstate at your expense to get it fixed once Masters closes. I hope my DeWalt drill bought from Masters a few months back doesn't stop working, I remember having to get my Bosch drill fixed by Bunnings local store, was easy and smooth.

    • IIRC Woolworths have already said they are putting in a process to handle warranties from masters after they close.

  • +2

They gonna sell any Masters Shirts?

    • Dick Smith at Northland (VIC) did, so anything is possible!

      • Did Dick Smith sell Masters shirts? that's weird… ;)

  • Does this also apply to kitchens then? I assume they have a set amount of stock to sell and once its gone its gone? So as the time goes on they will fire sale it further and further?

  • -1

Do they sell bait at Master?

  • +2

I'm probably in the minority but I prefer them to sell at a progressive discount. That way I wait for the price I'm okay with and if it is gone by then too bad.

I find that when stores clearance at 50%+, unless you are there at opening some broden has bought the lot to sell on gumtree/ebay.

    • That's a good point. Was like that at the power tool clearance. The amount of hitachi and Stanley drills on eBay has gone through the roof

  • … Seems to me like some people with a bit of influence have sabotaged Wollies, Dick and Masters from within. bye bye

  • Masters Kitchen is also good, and all Kitchen Cabinets are E0 MDF which made locally, and Hafele is supplier.

Do not know where can buy similar flatpack, but Kitchen Cabinets from bunnings and ikea are not E0 MDF.

    • They are sensational and also have great hinges. It really leaves a hole in the market without them

  • +2

I'm tempted to go at 7am everyday before work to check things out.

  • Sad to see them go. One paint was 50% off today, will it remain the same?
Also any idea if weber BBQ will be on any discount?

Coles doing good with bunnings, but alright with First Choice.
Woolies are doing good with Dan, but closing Masters.
    About times…

    • +1

'Also any idea if weber BBQ will be on any discount?'

I reckon the biggest discount you could expect on Webers is about 10% Gags. That brand fiercely opposes/obstructs heavier discounting of their products, presumably to ensure that they almost always get close to their asking price for their product. That way, consumers know that if they (or their wife/husband) wants one, it will be no use 'holding out' for it to go on sale. So they will just buy it at the asking price.

      • This is probably the brand quoted in the article that was trying to buy back stock at the sale

      • +1

Thanks. That is a shame. We have seen many people getting them on 20-30% off or more. I will wait a bit longer as I don't need it urgently.

  • At Masters Keysborough. Nothing on sale.

  • Prices appear live on website (I was checking last night and now this morning). Looks like only 10% on power tools, weber and lawn mowers :-(

  • Nothing on sale here at Knoxfield

  • +4

10% off storewide only a handful of item are 30% off.

  • Nothing on sale at Oakleigh South and I didn't get 10% off

  • Ok been to Hawthorn. 10% off everything

  • Nothing much at the Taree store either. But have been told it's 10% off storewide and they think it's more off certain items; couldn't tell me which items as they don't know until it's scanned at the checkout.

  • Need to wait a bit more for increased discount. not worth while now - we get 15-20% from eBay sometimes as well. no?

    • +1

Exactly. The way I look at it now is the equivalent of the supermarket dockets of last year

The irony is (at least at Hawthorn) packed at 7:30am. Even the staff commented on how busy it was. whereas the astute bargainer on here has been getting discounts for years and a lot more than 10%

The joke is though many will lap it up at 10% and remember it's 10% more than they are used to at Bunnings

      • +2

The problem with this is that most of the good stock will be gone. Not like more is gonna keep filtering in.

        • But then this is not deal for us. we need atleast 20% to make it worth - otherwise some ebay deal (where prices are not jacked) would do better for us.

        • +1

          @superm86:

I would say 30-40% minimum for Ozbargainers.

        • @abc: Yes, ideally! But then depend on your urgency of item as well :)

        • +2

I know and trust me they were lapping it up at 7:30 this morning. I agree completely with you.

As a staff member and I joked if they had come into the business earlier they would have got better deals

  • Will specials be advertised on their website or just store by store separately?

  • +1

Many people out there, not here obviously, consider a 10% off deal to be great, that's why the masters stores will be packed today.

    • It's still 10# more than Bunnings

  • I visited Oakleigh store 8:30 - 9:00 this morning. Staff said 10% on power tools at the moment.

I agreed with previous comments, probably needs 30% - 40% to become a great good deal (factored in warranty pain)

  • +3

Time to stock up on masters gift cards!

  • Was just told that appliances are the 1st to go on sale- 60% off. Could just be in upper Coomera though. Rubbish sale so far

    • What sort of appliances?

      • Didn't ask, sorry mate

    • I asked about fridges, washing machines and ovens this morning and was told it's only 6% off at the moment and they don't know when/if this will change.

      • Oh maybe she said 6%. My bad

  • Need to buy a new Line Trimmer, hopefully a deal pops up!

  • any sale on plants, pots and garden stuff?

    • 10% of most things and the mulch I bought last week is now more expensive, so much so that it has to be a pricing error. I was getting them at about $15 regular price, no sale etc and now they are $22 down from $25each.

      • Exactly. Does this remind you of another retailer back in January with a similar sale…

    • Didn't have any signs up on any of it yet at Masters Morayfield

  • Bosch drill bits not on sale. And their power garden tools have had much better deals before.

So far a Closing Down Fail.
