This is a really good deal. My contract doesn't end until November though!

    • if your contract ends at the beginning of November, you could sign up at the end of September, that way you could benefit from the deal. you may end up paying up for a month to the other operator (unless its Virgin), so it really depends on your negotiation, what you want, etc.

      • Yep, virgin are partial to helping out long term customers. As them to give you a couple months waiver to sign up to this deal.

Heck, even just pay out your existing contract, will be less than you're paying now month to month, and the new deal is mucho cheaper than anything else really

  • Offer again when previous offer ended last week

  • Whats the chance of getting them to move my current $40 plan to this?
    Is this a byo plan?

    • +6

Do live chat they 100% do it. I did on the last deal.

    • Tried the live chat last night but they wouldn't transfer my plan without a velocity card registered.

  • +1

Wow.. nice! Hard deal to beat at the moment!

  • Month to month?

    • No lock-in contract, leave anytime.

  • Snapped it up. Extra 2GBs for 10 less dollaz? Ohhhyyyeeaahh.

  • I joined this last week. How do I get quota free streaming? No option for it in rewards

    • +7

I managed to add it to my grandfathered plan - You have to first opt-in for "Marketing Messages"

Click the 'Down Arrow' just to the right of 'Rewards' - then Profile Settings
Under "My Marketing Preferences" tick "I’d like to receive marketing messages from Virgin Mobile."
It should then be available in rewards.

It's worth noting that the international allowance on these plans can be used to call anywhere - which can be hard to find these days.

It looks like they have updated their excess data to come in-line with everyone else ($10/GB)
iirc mine is something like 7c/MB? I remember it being ridiculous but I have enough quota to not have to worry about it.

      • Thanks for writing that all out, huge help!

    • mine was the same, no option in rewards. contacted them on twitter and they fixed it

Why does no one offer Apple Music streaming considered off data!

    • Telstra do, but they don't offer the other services like Spotify unmetered…

      • -1

        Cause Telstra…the Telstra premium

        • You sure. I am pretty sure that while they offer a 12 month Apple Subscription the actual data is still metred.

  • Am I right in saying this is better than the one they posted a week or so ago because it has free music streaming?

    • No, because the free steaming music is available to existing users as well.

      • But is it better than last one as this has $10/GB for extra data ?

  • Hope virgin offer a good deal with iPhone 7 - this is a great deal

    • Get this deal and buy the iphone outright. I did this with the note 7 and saved hundreds

Been a Virgin BYO post-paid customer for 8 years and for most of it it's been great, but recently, data has been patchy:
I'd like to think it's only affecting a small percentage of customers, but the Facebook app hasn't been working for the past week:
    https://community.virginmobile.com.au/t5/Discussion-Posts/Ca…

and my GPS / Location has stopped working for the past 2 months. Still not sure if it's my phone, or SIM, but if a SIM can stuff up the Facebook app, it could impact Location (currently researching).

None of the issues you mentioned can really be related to a phone provider, they would work without a sim..

      • +3

        Virgin have acknowledged the issue:

Hey guys, we understand this issue can be frustrating and we're currently working with our networks team and Facebook to find a solution. In the mean time, you'll still be able to use the web browser on your phone to log in to Facebook. When we have more info, we'll update this thread.
        https://community.virginmobile.com.au/t5/Discussion-Posts

      • Yes it'll work without a sim…. Meaning is the provider that's the problem.

  • Note that you need to be a Velocity FF member to get this deal (free to join)
Edit - nevermind, link is exclusive to Velocity FF but anyone can purchase

    • As Carkell confirmed in a post (few post below). You don't have to be a Velocity member. You get 7gb, on the top of 3gb that comes included with $40 offer.

  • Currently using this plan. And sometimes the billing feels iffy to me. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/233199?page=1

should i download, the value hasnt changed for me. i just get proper billing and less international calls. but i dont even call internationally?

And dont you have to be a velocity frequent flyers member for this to apply?

  • +1

No you have to be a VFF member for 10 otherwise you only get 7GB. I signed up and confirmation email says 7 so gonna cancel when i recieve sim and confirm.

    • +1

I am not a VFF member. My email says '$40 sim w/ 7GB bonus'. The $40 plan comes with 3GB included. The 7GB bonus takes it to 10GB in total.

      • Just changed my plan to this one and the rep said "because you're a velocity member, you get 10gb instead of 7gb"

  • damnnn my kogan 3 months prepaid ends in october :( was hoping for one of these deals to pop up just before the expiry

    • Well, you can sign up at the end of September. You will still be ahead, if this deal ticks all your requirement.

      • do you know if you can sign up and start the service say.. 3 weeks later or do you have to use right away?

        • In most cases, they don't come preactivated. Maybe try their live chat, to be 100% sure. Let us know :)

        • If porting number, just order the sim now, activate in 3 weeks. Australia post is notoriously slow…..

        • @albanyson: sorry i meant activate it 3 weeks after the promo ends, i dont mind paying in advance as long as the start date of the plan is 3 weeks on… but maybe ill try the yomojo plan first and wait for the next virgin promo. $15pm for 3 months for 10gb is pretty unpassable haha.

        • @kza2610:
That's fine too….. Australia Post always lose letters, just get it resent if you think you need a bit more time to activate it.
Billing doesn't start till you activate

        • @Rashed: so i totally forgot about this until today, but i chatted with the live chat rep and she told me as long as i sign up before the end date, i can activate the service at a later date. Will pop in a store and ask them to help me set up as I want to join it with my partners account to get the bonus 1GB. Thanks OP :)

  • I have been with virgin for over 10 years, but unfortunately Optus reception is pretty bad where I am moving to. Calls doesn't get through or cut off, only 3G data available and doesn't work well and I stay about 15mins away from the Perth CBD. Will be moving on to Telstra. Virgin/Optus internet is only good if you can get 4G. 3G service is unreliable, even in the CBD.

  • I just had a look at my account in the hopes of down(up?)grading (currently on the $50 BYO sim plan) and my data—which was 6gb, is now up to 9.5gb? Anybody have any ideas why this is?

    • the $50 BYO is currently 10 GB so maybe they just bumped you up.

  • Can anyone confirm that 4g works on virgin? I know that it's in the title but confirmation would be appreciated

    • 4g where I live. 4g where I work. Don't know where you live or work, so no guarantees…….
I'm on Virgin $40 plan for 10gb, since about Feb I think…..girlfriend will probably sign up too when her contract expires in 2 weeks.

  • Man. currently on the $20 plan with 2.2gigs until 2nd Nov which is barely enough atm. don't know if I should jump to this or hope for a 30$ plan with 3+ gigs to come out soon

    • depends on your need, how many gig of internet you think you use/will use every month? This is a month to month offer, so you can just ship any time.

  • Really tempted here.
I have two plans - 3.25 GB (1 gb bonus) with aud 450 calls (with monthly call rollover) for 19, and 2.2 GB (1 GB bonus) + 450 calls for 20. ( Given to my school going son)
Is it possible to swap numbers- move number of 2.2 to 3.25 GB, and upgrade the other plan? This way, I get the 10GB AND my son gets 3.25 GB.
    Thanks!

    • +1

You need to change teleco. Talk to your existing telco and see of you can port/transfer the 2.2 to 3.25 offer. You can port your 3.25 to this 10gb, no problem, please note if your are on postpaid and your contract hasn't expired, you may have to pay in part or full for the remainder of your contact.

      • No contact, it was always month to month.
But I want to port/ upgrade the AUD 20 plan (2.2 gb data) and then swap the two plans. Will talk.

FYI for those considering this deal, I just transferred my voda service to this. YES you need to sign up for velocity. The $40 plan comes with 3GB and the 7GB is a velocity bonus - the guys wouldn't let me have the 7GB without signing up - BUT you can sign up on the spot (I did on my phone while they waited) and it takes 2 minutes and there's nothing to pay or anything.

FYI again there's a 1GB sign up bonus that I got, which was added to my account AND my wife's number (she was already with virgin) so I now have 11GB on my plan (and she has an extra 1GB) HOWEVER I had to ring up Virgin afterwards to get them to confirm because it wasn't showing on the virgin app - they told me they added it after I chased them up about it.

    • Hey mate, can you please provide more detail on how you got the extra 1gb sign up bonus, so that I can add it to my post. Thanks.

      • I'd have to look it up. They literally offered it to me on the spot and I said yes.

      • +1

OK I think I found it. It's only if you sign up a second service, which is what I did:
Second Service 1GB Bonus: available when you’ve got an existing postpaid phone plan with us spending $29 or more on monthly access fees and you sign up for a second postpaid phone plan spending $30 or more on monthly access fees on the same account before 31 December 2016. You will receive a 1GB bonus on top of your standard monthly data allowance (to use in Oz) for both the existing and second service until you cancel or change either plan. Offer may only be used once per customer.

        • Thanks :)

  • Awesome deal - just moved from $30 plan to this one. Thanks!

    • You're welcome :)

  • just signed up to the $40 deal. thanks

    • Cheers!!

  • +1

Thanks OP, was looking at the $50 monthly one, went to the store yesterday but they said I still have a month left (but I only have 2 weeks left) and didn't want to waive that amount. Checked Ozbargain and saw this deal so I called today and they waived that amount and moved me to the $40 plan.

    • :)

  • Is this considered a prepaid or post paid plan?

    • +1

it is a month to month post paid plan.

      • Thanks

  • So I've always been on contract and this is the first time I'm signing up to a post paid plan over the internet. I entered in all my details and submitted everything but there wasn't a section where I entered my credit card for the payment?

Do I enter my credit card information when I receive the sim and activate?

    Thanks.

    • probably, maybe wait to get the sim, they may ask for CC details during activation.

      • I activated yesterday and I still don't recall giving my CC details…

Hopefully I get fully ported over from vaya by Friday

  • Both my old sim in my old phone (vaya) and my new sim (virgin) in my new phone are working.

Haha something gone wrong in the porting process?

  • It looks like the offer has been extended to 19/10/2016.

    • Updated, thanks.

  • Virgin stuffed up my port and it will be another 3-5 days…

  • is the bonus data available after the deal ends?

    • The deal is still available. So is the bonus data. Once you get the deal, it's yours until you cancel.

  • When I log into my account it says that I have $200 value. I assume that is the International Calls? There is nothing on my dashboard that tells me that I have unlimited calls or texts. I cant access my bill yet so i cant confirm.
