Spoke to aldi today and she said it isn't the model number that was used in the original post and the catalogue does not show one so I have taken it out to avoid confusion.

  • I got one last time they were on sale for a outside/bbq tv works and looks fine IMO

    • Thanks. Seen the pic but didn't check the review.

I bought this TV last time when it was $1199, and I'll have to say that it's a decent TV after you install software updates.. One thing to know is that the audio is pretty bad at the beginning. I feel as though it has gotten better over time, but I'd still recommend hooking up any sort of speakers to it. Initially I used regular USB computer speakers before I bought a soundbar.
Overall, it's definitely worth the price, especially at $799 for a newer model!

    • who uses in-built speakers on such a large panel. u must use external speakers off an AMP, always!

also, its futile saying ill buy this or i wont, reality is ur local ALDI will only have about 5 in stock and they'll all be sold before the rollershutters have had time to hit the roof on door-opening.

      better luck next time!

      • +2

Bah! I've never missed anything i really wanted. Sometimes you just have to show up with a coffee and some toast at 7:30 and wait :)

        • +1

And bitchslap the pensioners in the way thru the doors?

        • +1

Looking at the number of clicks to this deal, it seems like camping overnight would be more appropriate if you don't want to miss this one ;-)

    • +3

I got it when it was $1199 too.

I hook it up with a cheap Logitech 2.1 speaker system.

The kids love it. They watched free to air TV, Fetch TV and Youtube. It takes a bit long to load up. Don't put it next to a decent TV and you don't have any complaints.

      $799 is a great price!

      • Hi there, I read your comment and see that your kids can watch free to air tv on it. I tried to turn mine to FreeView plus mode but no success yet. May I please know how you did that? Thanks.

        • jnbluv2h,

My kids have not tried FreeView plus.

        • @hluu0111:
          Thanks anyways :-)

    • Hi, i also bought this TV last time when it was $1199. I am trying to buy a soundbar for it. I am OK for it to be substandard, i am guessing anything is better than what it is. Would you be able to recommend me one to look into? I was also hoping for the soundbar to just connect to the TV, and will turn on and off with the TV (rather than having another separate remote control).

  • +1

Did anyone know how to turn on FreeView Plus on this tv? Got a 55 inch one a few month ago, tried to follow the manual to turn on Freeview Plus but no luck.

    • Menu - System - HbbTV On

      • Is that the instructions for freeview TV plus?

        • Yeah mate. I was replying to jnbluv2h's question. Obviously you also need to be connected to the Internet. Then you use the green & red buttons on the remote to access.

      • Thanks a lot! Will try that tonight :-)

      • Hi I just click Menu on my tv and it goes straight to settings which contains "time, lock, option. Network settings, and PVR". Where could I actually firm the system settings? Thanks

        • Have a look in your Smart Hub settings, the 55" must be different from the 65". To turn ON FreeviewPlus, go to SMART HUB > CHANNELS and set the
HbbTV setting to ON. Good luck - http://www.bauhn.com.au/literature_142463/ATVS55-915-_Instruction_Manual

        • @Fitzy777:
Hi I have found the settings and it has been on all the time, and I am definitely connected to the Internet. That's why I would like to see how people solve this as I still can't access freeview plus when pressing the green button on remote.

Anyone try Netflix 4K on this tv?

If it doesn't have built in Netflix an nvidia shield will have 4K Netflix or Amazon firetv

    • Curious about this as well. Thinking of getting one for the parents, but want to know if I need to upgrade their Roku to a 4 for 4k, or if the telly can use the Netflix Android 4k app…

  • +1

how the hell can this be less than 1/3rd the cost of a basic branded tv like a LG ? anybody think there's a bit of price fixing going on somewhere ?!

  • +1

From a 55" 4K Bauhn I tried: Dismal picture quality and an unfriendly laggy user interface.
    4K resolution doesn't save a cheap panel.
    We returned it to Aldi.

Does anyoje know if this brand is Australian brand and Made in Australia or Made In China?

    • +7

Haha Made in Australia. Nice one.

    • +3

It depends what you understand by "brand", and what makes it "Australian".

Aldi in Australia own the "Bauhn" trademark. So it is an "Australian brand"… primarily from various manufacturers in China.

The small Australian suppliers (preferring to be called manufacturers) to Aldi source cheap units from different manufacturers in China. Firmware may be tweaked in Oz. The Aldi "Bauhn" trademark is added to electronics from various manufacturers.

Models aren't even seen by the Aldi buyers - Aldi buys on the quoted specs, at a given price, to arrive before a given sale date. So there can be some issues as the units may not be thoroughly tested before release. (Features may not work, firmware may conflict, etc)

Manuals may be incorrect or inadequate to understand some features. (Corrections have been glued into some manuals.)

Support may not understand your question or even deny any problem exists… (Criticism of supplier TempoAustralia on Whirlpool.)

Aldi simply passes on any faulty units to the local supplier for them to deal with.

Generally, new models don't build on design & experience gained from older models, design faults aren't ironed out as there is rarely any feedback from Aldi or customers about faults (the downside of easy returns, plus Aldi customers often lack knowledge & understanding of how their purchase should work as they've never bought a similar device). Besides the next model is often based on what is available for the price, often from a different manufacturer - so why improve?

All in the rush to meet the next sales deadline & supply the most features per $…
That's what I learnt from one supplier who contacted me to work for them - I declined.

It's a very different business model to the specialist electronics companies. Suppliers to Aldi don't risk much reputation if a model is a dud - Aldi & it's trademark Bauhn get the blame. But what do you expect from a store selling cut price breakfast cereal, etc

Past experience does not predict experience with future Bauhn models. Quality control is poor, so units from same batch may perform differently or not at all. There is usually no after sales support, no replacement boards etc.

      With Bauhn - it's a gamble.
But there's 60 days to take it back. Just keep the receipt (& packaging helps).

  • So do we need to go in an Aldo store to get this, or online?

I'm not going to an Aldi store on the 17th to find a thousand people fighting for the last TV…

    • +4

Just order via their online shop and they will deliver for you.

  • Question: how would this compare to my 6 year old FHD Panasonic 54" tv?

Not that I'm planning to replace it. Just want to understand would it be a lot worse quality display even though it's 6 years newer.

  • -4

    • +4

Why does a product need to be discounted in order to qualify as a bargain?

It doesn't. The deal is posted and user votes determine whether it's a bargain or not. At this point in time 91 users think this deal is a bargain.

Your negative vote doesn't do anything productive for the OzBargain community. You haven't given us any reasons other than your personal belief that products should not be posted when they're at their RRP. There is no rule against this nor should there be in my opinion.

      • -5

Because I could fill the front page with cheap Chinese junk - just because this is a low price does not make it a bargain

If you had read any of the reviews of previous models you would know how bad the picture sound quality and interface is

Hence rrp for this is NOT A BARGAIN

        • this is clearly not the RRP..Your neg is invalid.

        • @nocure: so what's the rrp
Show me a shop that sells it for more

        • +1

          @nocure: ok

        • +1

Not a valid reason for a neg vote.

The Bauhn link in the deal description shows the the currently listed price (it was last sold at) as $1199. Comments above reported people buying at that price when this model was released in July.

          A $400 (1/3) drop over 2 months is significant.

Previous models, often from different manufacturers but badged under Aldi trademark of Bauhn, do not indicate experiencd with current model, as I outlined above.

There are shortcomings with many Bauhn products, but the 60 days given for easy return should give time to discover any issues.

I won't be buying due to reported poor SD TV image in this model. Poor sound is easier to resolve. But many buying this won't be that interested in watching TV on this.

        • -1

@Infidel: different model no wifi no smarts so Ozrrp comment stands
          Your apology is graciously accepted

  • So if 90% of what we watch is Foxted SD is it worth getting this or will it look cr@p?

    • +1

There are comments that SD TV is not great viewing on this model :-(
eg The SD free to air picture quality was not good at all.
Likely similar issue with Foxtel SD, but I have no experience.

    • Set your Foxtel box to 1080i and the box will upscale the lower channels to HD. That's what I do and we have a Full HD.

  • +1

Thanks OP for sharing this but I can't seem to find any on sale info about this TV on aldi website? Is this TV will definitely be on sale on 17th Sep?

    • +1

Yes it is, as I saw it in the catalogue out the front of my local Aldi tonight.

    • yes, the website only shows current specials

  • +1

Will be using this as a monitor, so tv is a bonus

  • +1

I just grabbed a catalogue at Aldi and the inside page description does NOT mention anything about the Smart function or WIFI. So I assume this is a totally different model from the $1199 model? It only says it's got PVR function.

    • Complete feature list is listed on Bauhn site. Usually not enough space in catalog.

      • Hi
I also noticed that in original post OP added that Bauhn link of $1199 model but it did NOT mean that the one going on sale on 17/09 is the very same model. It is more than likely that the Bauhn website does NOT even have any info about this model yet as it's not released. Maybe check later on their website for update. No MODEL number is listed on the catalogue as well so it might not be the previous smart model.
I know the aldi staff is no expert, but come on, if you are going to sell a 65" tv for $799 with WIFI and SMART functions, you would put that in bold font and first line in ad/catalogue right? You'd definitely want to mention that more than PVR function.
Anyway I am just putting up the info I know, and hoping that the ozbargaingers interested in this deal could keep it in mind that it might not be the same model as the $1199. Just don't want you guys wake up early and move home a 65inch tv and bang, it doesn't come with wifi? Again, great price for 65 inch UHD tv, I'm considering buying one as well. Will treat the wifi function as bonus if it does come with it :-)

  • +2

Just talked to a staff at ALDI and he confirmed that this tv does NOT have WIfi and is NOT a smart tv. So it's not as same as the previous $1199 model.
Still great price for a 65 inch UHD tv, but I think it's best to clarify it as I see many people here assume it's a smart tv as the one before.

    • Wouldn't go by the opinion of Aldi staff!

[EDIT] But they were right! The model originally listed in this deal is not the model on sale!

Staff rarely know specs of the numerous TV models they sell - even when there is one in the store, & especially so when this model was last on sale in July, and stores won't have stock for this sale for some time,. People have found that out in previous sales - reported on Whirlpool.

Best to check features for the model number listed on Bauhn site closer to sale date. Aldi will list the details in their weekly online catalog, which should contain the link to the model on sale.

    Your connection is not private

Attackers might be trying to steal your information from www.bauhn.com.au (for example, passwords, messages or credit

    • +1

I get that same message if I click on the link provided at the top in deal description but not when I go there myself or use google link :P

      • -1

same.. wondering why i was down voted…

  • ok sorry for sounding dumb but can someone please tell me how to order this from the website?

I'm assuming it will go live at XX:XX am on 17 September

Then goes until stock runs out? Do I have a better chance with this than going instore?

BTW this is perfect for me as I don't need a smart TV- the only downside is that I discussed it with the wife and she uttered the immortal words 'grounds for divorce'

    • Sorry kaos, you can't order online.

      • +1

ah sorry I was responding to someone else above who said you could. Thanks for the info…..

  • Confusingly, this deal description has just been revised - model number has been removed…
    Model Number: ATVS65-0716
So deal may be a different model number!!
Best to check model number in catalog.

The model number that was listed in this deal is the one on the Bauhn site - link in deal description.

Previous comments related to the model number previously listed in the deal.

    • +1

Spoke to aldi today and she said it isn't that model number and the catalogue does not show one so I have taken it out to avoid confusion.

      • +1

It was strange that a TV model would drop 1/3 in price between sales. Aldi doesn't usually do that. That created interest here.

Added the comment to draw attention to change in deal. Earlier comments are now irrelevant.

Some may need to reconsider whether this changed deal suits their needs.

  • +2

i'm guessing the model number is ATVU65-0916, with the manual and quick start guide

    • Thanks. That should be the correct 65" model number by the 4 digit release date 0916.

Manual is similar to that for recent $449 Bauhn 48" UHD TV - also posted by nocure.
      Both from supplier TempoAustralia.

      NOT A SMART TV!
Basic TV, PVR (requires FAT32 formatted external HDD storage), & media player (via USB) functions.

Specs in Deal Description are different to those at end of manual (below)!

      Without stand: 22.02 kg

      • Response Time 8ms (GTG)

        • Mmmm that sounds quite good, does 8ms mean for average viewing or only for 1 specific viewing mode (e.g game mode)

Just trying to see if it will in fact be suitable for gaming or not.

also guessing it won't be supporting HDR?

        • @bloobat: looks likes its 6ms. Not sure if it's still good enough for gaming

        • @ansonto1987:
Ad states 6ms, but manual specs above shows 8ms. I'd say full specs in manual would be more likely to be correct than ad.

  • +2

Ah.. Good to know that I didn't pay $400 more 3 months ago for the same model. But let me re-iterate - I don't use the SmartTV/WiFi functionality of the model sold in July, it's pretty crap anyway. A $60 Marshmallow/4k/Android/Kodi box plugged into any of the HDMI ports and away ya go. Or the USB playback of the TV plays most files anyway.

    • I plan on doing the same thing, just using an external 'smart device'. How's the picture quality, refresh rate, etc with the Android box? Also, what do you use for FTA TV?

I was thinking of getting something like this http://www.gearbest.com/tv-box-mini-pc/pp_188375.html

  • LAN x 0, no WiFi

    No net is deal breaker.

  • requires FAT32

No exfat is another deal breaker.

  • +1
    • +1

Thanks dude. Wifi is pretty crap on these sub-$1000 big screen TVs (have a Soniq 55" with Android TV and it is utterly useless), so not too concerned about no wifi.
Someone above mentioned the wifi is useless on those Bauhn TVs that do have wifi.

      • +1

Do you think the chromcast will do the job?

  • So the question then becomes, how early do we need to camp out at our local Aldi to pick one of these up.

    • Can order online? Would be great if I don't have to delivery this big tv myself

      • I'm fairly certain you can't order from Aldi online.

  • Question: is this better or worse than the smart tv version?

Also on the 17th can we order midnight online?

  • One thing I find surprising that hasn't been mentioned so far is that this panel has a refresh rate of 60hz.

That means it isn't going to cope with motion real well.

Given the size of the screen, that is a deal-breaker for me.

People comparing this TV to screens 3x more expensive by other manufacturers should note that most decent TV's of this size have at least 100hz refresh rate.

You will appreciate the faster refresh rate when you watch the cricket, NRL or AFL.

    • Check the review http://whrl.pl/ReIh03 on WP. He reckons there was picture was smooth running foxtel

  • Waiting for the Aldi brand HDR TVs to come out.

  • Someone on WP has actually bought one and reviewed here on WP http://whrl.pl/ReIh03

    • +1

This deal's model has not been released yet.

Their WP report is being questioned based on that. Person posting has not responded in 23 hrs to questions of how they got a unit before it went on sale. Also no model number is mentioned. Some Aldi probably have old stock 65" UHD - people have been confused between same sized Bauhn models before.

People are reporting on different models confusing matters, like earlier in this deal. That WP forum discusses many Bauhn UHD models dating back to Sept 2015. Unlikely Aldi is releasing stock early.

      • I would be suspect too but his description seems to match the specs. Ah, we'll see how this plays out in a couple of days. I'm still looking forward to the actualy review of this model in question.
Amazing how many 65 inch models by the same 'brand' are floating around.

        • +1

Aldi releases different models from different manufacturers with similar specs. Many different 65" UHD models have sold for at least a year. Confusingly, old & current sales stock may be on sale at same time in some stores, as in the link I posted above.

The specs in the Deal Description are for the previous model. Specs from this model's manual are posted above with the main differences between the models in bold. Specs can seem similar between models.

Unless people state the actual model number (from back of unit, box, or manual) - there is no way to know which they are discussing.

Model numbers from TempoAustralia now end with the 4 digit release date, after a common model number for that device.
All Bauhn 65" UHD models are ATVU65-…. So this ATVU65-0916, is A TV Uhd 65" - released Sept 2016.

It has been a problem on WP, as people with a different model ask questions in a forum for a specific model. I request them to check which model they have before answering questions. People get annoyed that their post is questioned & insist it is the model in the forum, wasting others time when it is finally realised it is a different model. But most responders don't realise a different model is being discussed. I used to get a few requests for help with firmware updates - for wrong models, which would kill the unit.

Still no response on WP to clarify if this deal's model is being discussed before release. It would be unusual if someone obtained a pre-release unit & didn't brag about it - so I'd say it's not this new model.

  • Will no HDR and 200hz will affect picture quality a lot?

    • Depends if you're an optimist or a realist.

      Consider the sentence

"A 65" UHD LED television for $800 with 1 year warranty"

What would you expect from $800?

      • I mean if HDR is a "must-have" and significantly increases image quality, then i'd rather wait a few weeks or months for an HDR version for a few hundred dollars more.

        • Ah I see. In that case I reckon you should wait.

I would only buy this TV if I wanted a cheap 65" tv/display for mancave/garage/nursing home.

  • Can anyone please tell me the actual Box size so I can work out what car I can fit it into?

    Cheers

  • What's a recommended time to get to the store for one of these ?
