  • Had the "Black with the lot" today. A bit bland to be honest. I will take these burgers for free but really don't think they are anything special and wouldn't be paying $12-$14 regularly.

    Take away no problem, though did have to wait about 30 mins!

  • So, had lunch earlier today (thanks to tonester for the voucher) and ordered a 'Front Bar' Steak sandwich and my goodness, it is HUGE! It was presented in a oblong bun, as opposed to regularly round ones with a steak knife stuck in (and no, I didn't eat that). Definitely need to postpone dinner until much later!

    Funnily enough, I ordered take-away and went through fine - except when the manager hastily shouted (raised voice) to the cashiers it was dine-in only and as a result, personally told me that I'll have to dine-in. It's not a problem since I didn't mind, but it was interesting to be told (not exact words) "We don't like to be mutilated with people just grabbing and go and in exchange, we ask you to dine-in so we can see your beautiful face". It was a strange way to get complimented from a guy to another guy, but hey, don't we all look fabulous with our oddly-coloured nail? (or, terribly like me)

    Later, when the meal was finished, the manager came back to thank me for buying a drink (it was a $3.20 glass bottle of Schweppes) as he said 50 or so people came in just for the burgers and left without buying anything else. I guess they are taking a real beating for handing out the free burgers. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

    I guess that's why I (and many others) haven't received the vouchers lately…

    • +1

      Well, the managers really cannot complain as all is as per Ts and Cs and it's for a charity purpose after all, so they should not be looking at covering the cost, this is their opportunity to give back. Most of them are making a killing anyways, one week of even half profits will not make much of a difference for sure…
      In stores I visited I have always been the only one with the voucher. All around Sydney CBD and Chatswood.

      • In stores I visited I have always been the only one with the voucher. All around Sydney CBD and Chatswood.

        It's the other way in Melbourne, both in the suburbs and the CBD. Probably only 1 in 10 actually bought a burger (or anything else like today's experience).

        • +1

          I do visit Grill sporadically regardless of the promotion, but overall they are pretty expensive. A burger, chips and drink easily adds up to 25 bucks which is too much IMO. There are a dozen joints on Groupon and Scoopon offering similar 'Gourmet' burgers for 10 bucks with chips and drink… Not to mention how much would you get for 25 bucks in an Asian place.

          Maybe that's the reason. If they were affordable ppl wouldn't be so keen to maximise this promotion?

        • @noskich: Wait til you see what McD charge for their meals and it almost makes Grill'd look reasonable.

          One of my customers (a massive cheapskate/#1 whinger) complained about the cost of a meal at McD.

        • @t25:
          Wouldn't know about that one as I'm a vegetarian. I only went to Hungry Jacks for veggie burgers when there were coupons to firstly get them for free and later for two dollars years ago… Would not pay more for that junk anyways.

    • +1

      I thought steak sandwiches weren't allowed with the voucher?

  • Got my first lot in Melb. Steak switch. Super nice, no attitude, no nail polish, no queues.

  • well it didn't take long to bump into a (profanity) who tried to weasel the t&c's. i've been using printed vouchers; no problems until today. was at Clarkson WA, as soon as i produced my printed barcode voucher, the [presumably] manager said 'it has to be on your smartphone.'
    me: used a paper voucher yesterday and no problems. t&c's also don't say it has to be on a smartphone
    him: it has to be on your smartphone. you could use the voucher again on your phone after this
    me: it expires as soon as it's redeemed
    him: it has to be on your smartphone.
    me: i don't have a smartphone, that's why i printed it out.

    seeing that i wasn't going to give up so easily, he offered to "call someone", and agreed to process both the paper voucher and allow me to get the burger as a takeaway.

      I'dlike to know if the biggest moochers and whingers on here have actuallydonated to the cause.

      • +2

        what are you, the donation gestapo? feel free to raid my credit card statements for proof.

        now, i'd like to know if you have any actual constructive comments to contribute to this discussion

          This site must be full of teenagers @gimme:

          says the guy who trots out "cool story bro"

        • @gimme: and here you are complaining about my complaining :D pot meet kettle

        • @Bullion78:

          sorry next time I'll use my sarcasm smiley for you

        • -2

          @tdw:

          so how much did u actually ccontribute to the cause?

        • @gimme: why does it matter how much anyone donated?

          People choose to donate what they want to who they want without any scrutiny. After all it is their money and choice.

          Based on the ozbargain team, (we) collectively seem to be doing pretty good. Along with any team that has been set up seperately

        • -2

          @t25:

          translation=nothing

        • -1

          @gimme: not sure what your angle is being so concerned about how much we donated.

          anyhow, excuse me whilst im off to meet some friends for a grill'd burger :)

        • -1

          @gimme: at least say please if you're going to demand like a petulant child.

        • @t25: > not sure what your angle is being so concerned about how much we donated.

          it's all some people have in order to feel superior over others :D

        • -2

          @tdw:

          Make sure you keep up your charitable spirit by having a free burger every day. You know it's your duty to raise awareness by milking the promotion to its limits.

        • +2

          @gimme: as long as i have your blessing to do so, your highness. don't report me to grill'd or anything lol

        • +2

          @tdw:
          @gimme:

          Alright you 2, stop grilling each other. Polish your acts up and walk away as men.

          @tdw:

          Remember the more you eat the more kids u save as per the marketing principles of t25 so I'll send u my remaining emails to help with your mission

      • +4

        There's more to the cause than just donating. Having the polished nail means people ask questions and I get to tell them what its about… awareness is just as important as fundraising. I'd say that the organisers would be happy for you to sign up, get a burger each day, get no donations, but would be happy that you talked to 1 person about it.

        • Just like any advertising, it is to get people to talk about it. Nothing more, nothing less. Donations simply help these good causes continue their good work.

        • -2

          Good rationalisation. I suspect a large number of cheepskates are talking about it alright….. about how to get free burgers

    • +2

      Wow talk about anal. My experience has been very easy and pleasant. Staff are more than happy to honour the free burgers and allow take away, no checking of the nail and no anal rules about printed or electronic vouchers. That guy takes his job way too seriously. Not everyone has a phone either..

      • i had nothing but good experiences the other three times :)

        that said, always expect the one difficult person to make up their own t&c's every time something free is involved.

        • +1

          Had same experience at BWS the other day, staff member refused my free beer unless making a purchase. Didn't want anything, just stopped by on my way home. Complained by email and told area managers have been notified, awaiting response. I wouldn't normally bother for something so trivial, except power tripping staff really get on my nerves. I knew the terms of the promotion and their own staff don't..

        • @nubzy: lol i've had to involve an area manager for a red rooster freebie a few years ago. since i had time, i waited for the area manager to turn up to the store (that same day). he then processed my voucher, asked if i wanted a complimentary drink (to which i said thanks but no thanks) and showed that staff there how to do their jobs. great success!

  • +1

    4th night in a row at my local (Mt Lawley WA). First time tonight that they checked the nail. I've been offered take-away every night, but tonight they said it should be eat-in only but allowed takeaway because they were full. Apparently they did 80 free burgers on Thursday night.

  • +1

    got my saturday voucher

    gonna use the messina $10 bucks too

  • From what I can see they only send you the voucher every second day.

    • They've had some issues, but I've received mine every day

  • Have done this twice and it's been a pleasing experience. Am aiming for three more visits then will donate =)

  • Was able to get takeaway today and probably could've got away with a steak sandwich. Time to donate.

  • +1

    I think I'm going to skip today.

    All that cheese and white bread is going straight to my ass

    • Can I use your voucher.

      I haven't gotten mine at all this weekend the only time I can really use it :(

      • +1

        sorry i gave it to a friend

      • +2

        PM me your email. I'll send you mine

  • +1

    Same here - anybody wants my burger for today, PM me.

  • +2

    This promotion is ACE! just finished my 6th consecutive day of free burgers, loving it (my body probably isn't haha). Favourites are the almighty and Caesars palace :)

    • Same here! I have noticed the belt feeling that bit tighter, but I'm blaming it on my lack of exercise lately.

      "Wild Wild West" and "Simon Says" are quickly becoming my favourite.

      Going to try the "Zen Hen" and "Hotbird" next.

      • I think the wild wild west is the same as the Almighty.

        • Am I missing something, or is there no "Almighty" in the WA menu?

        • +1

          @t25: it's the exact same thing as an Almighty - just they call it almighty in nsw and wild Wild West in WA. Also it is normally $13.50 in nsw but $15 in Wa!

  • Anyone not using their voucher today?
    Didn't receive one today, can I use yours?
    much appreciated, thanks.

    • +2

      I have one if you need, PM me.

      • Thanks just got one :)

      • all gone!

      • Thanks coxymia, you're a champion!

    Aww too bad, I have yet to receive any voucher from them. Wanted to try their new burger range.

  • Me - Hi could i use this? (Points to phone)

    Grilld - Could you show me your nail?

    Me - I dont have fingers..

    Grilld - (Thinks in mind WTF)

    This is actually not true. But itd be funny to try!

    • +5

      How did you point to your phone without fingers?

      • How many looks do you get from strangers about your eyebrows Mr Howard?

    • You could've said that you don't nails on your fingers =)

    • +1

      Nice try. Come back again tomorrow for another go.

    • That's what I say to the people trying to give me flyers on the way to the polling booth on election day.

  • any one not receiving the voucher for today (10/10)?

    • Yeah, haven't received mine for today. Every other day has been OK.
      Fairly temperamental email system, maybe.

  • Grill'd southern cross station want you to sit in.

  • Anyone tried the schnitzel burgers? Any good?

    • had the black crumb with the lot the other day. delicious, but it's noticeably smaller than other chicken burgers like caesar's palace

      • My wife had one golden one tonight and it did look rather small, but was nice.

        It had been sold out, 3 of the previous times we'd been

        Also had the black crumb previously - it was alright, but probably wouldn't go again over other burgers

  • I was doing OK for the first few days, but no barcode for me since Friday… EDIT: Just found today's in my spam folder!

  • Guys don't have the polish. How often are people being asked to show a polished nail?

    Lol am thinking of permanent marking my pinky black just incase so i don't waste time going all the way there to be turned back. Are they checking polished nails?

    • Usually there's a bottle of polish there for this reason.

      • Oh ok thanks. That's nice of them.

    • i've never been asked but then again it's obvious enough that they don't need to ask.

      is it so difficult to just to paint your nail (using whatever pigment-dispensing medium you desire), then rock up to the store? you're making it harder for yourself than need be.

      • Well ive just white board markered my nail black. Forgot to ask the mrs for hers.

        No it isnt, but if i could avoid white board marking my nail it's just easier, esp with a white shirt mindfulness and wiping it on there since obviously don't worry about painted nails previously lol

        Hopefully the staff have better things to do than question my questionable looking "polish" (whiteboard marker) nail haha. Since obviously polish looks diff.

        As another poster mentioned if they have pots there then it's fine since they're pretty cool about it

        • +2

          well it is part of the t&c's of the promotion, and considering the value you're getting out of it, it is but a very minor inconvenience.

          and if you're concerned about marking your white shirt, you'd have better results using a marker a bit more permanent than whiteboard marker ;)

        • @tdw:

          haha well the worker didn't look at my nail. Pretty chilled worker that didn't seem too interested, he even asked if it was dine in or takeaway , and for my $15 before he corrected himself as I already gave him the polished man voucher (printed it).

          The whiteboard market worked its job - most of it has rubbed off now so at least when I can't wear it (professional occupation) it can be removed, and drawn back on when needed ;)

          didn't see any nail polish pots though at the store/counter….

    • +2

      Not been asked once to show the nail. Always been offered takeaway.

      Decided to try a vege burger today "Veggie Vitality" and it was delicious, actually might be the best I have tried so far.

      • +1

        are you a vegetarian normally? I noticed it as a 'new' burger too, thought it looked interesting. Tomorrow would be my second time as I missed he promotion previously, but thought I'd feel 'healthier' by ordering that veggie vitality.

        Feel pretty healthy?

        • +1

          Nah I am not a vego. It was really tasty. I love good vegetarian food, the patty in this was very nice. Could be made even better with a bit of chilli or jalapeno for some spice. Definetely felt better after eating that than their other burgers. It was very fresh and not oily at all.

        • +1

          @nubzy:

          I just had this tonight. Added sweet chilli mayo. It was nice… For a veggie burger. Beetroot patty is what it is. Nothing amazing. I need a steak.

        • +1

          @nubzy:

          Ah great, i might try it. I've tried the chickpea one before , whatever it is. Th eonly problem is they feel healthy but somehwat abit light/empty on the tummy feeling becuase of the lack of a solid piece of beef or bacon in there (i.e. wild west liek i had today). haha however given I am planning to eat it at lunch tomorrow and just accompany the parents to their grill'd burgers for dinner I should probably be healthy!

          Good to hear it isn't an oil soaked patty though!

        • +1

          @CVonC:

          haha i've had the chickpea patty one, was nice but also leaves that empty feeling compared to some beef/meat, guess that's how it is since obviously beef is protein and sits more heavily in the tummy.

          Thanks for the sweet chilli mayo suggestion - i thought it came with sauce already but if now I might chuck that in. Best sauce for their chips as it is… sure it must go great with the burger too :D

      • I also had this tonight - but I added A LOT of some sort of hot sauce they had on the counter in front of where they prepare the burgers (I only discovered this when sitting right next to the counter due to limited seats).

        With that combination, it was pretty tasty!

        In near 6 years of going here, can't believe I never knew they had hot sauce!

        • they have hot sauce for free??????

        • +1

          @CVonC:

          Yeah, that was my reaction…

          This is what they had:
          http://www.diemens.com.au/pages/original-hot-sauce

          Not sure if it's a once off - if you can't see it anyone, casually ask when they deliver your burger

          I complimented the guy that picked up the plates that it was great, and he said they have hot chili mayo (think you can get it with chips), or something else hotter for a 'little bit extra' ($)

        • @SnakeDoctor:

          I sometimes get the hot chilli mayo but my usual is the sweet one with the chips (love their chips). But I haven't seen that hot sauce at any of the ones I've been too. Admittedly I haven't really looked extensively when I'm there. Will see tmr. Thanks for the heads up!

        • @CVonC:

          Do you like tomato sauce with chips ?

          It was sitting on the counter next to the hot sauce!

          I'll take a pic on next visit!

        • @SnakeDoctor:

          it's okay but i never get ask for it. if it's on it i wouldn't not eat it. sweet chilli mayo or peri peri for me ^^

  • Strange i got this in my hotmail spam but not gmail. Anyone else who signed up also have problems with gmail?

    • +1

      received every email in my gmail account so far

      • strange. I got it in the Hotmail but not gmail. I've signed up another email address with gmail to 'test' out why. I did use the same mobile number on both sign ups maybe thats' why only one voucher went out? I only signed up twice yesterday incase this happened - i.e. a voucher didn't arrive in one account. Sure enough…

        interesting to see if tomorrow both accounts work and if indeed the system is temperamental?

  • Redeemed my 3rd burger of the promotion so far - never had any problems, got Take Away each time, paper voucher, and haven't brought anything else.
    Today was the first time they even asked to see a painted nail (no problem - nailed it!)

    I may get a drink tomorrow - I am feeling a little like I owe them something :)

    I have talked about the nail to a few people, so I'm doing my part though :)

  • If anyone has a spare voucher for today they're not using let me know, thanks!
