[Newegg] EVGA GTX 1080 FTW DT with ACX 3.0 Cooler @ AUD $860 + Shipping

100

Hi all,

After a little scare I had with my GPUs (watercooling leaked), I was looking for a new GPU. Found this on the Newegg site and thought I'd share it.

This card has 2 x 8pin for higher power draw and has a 10+2 power phase, which should translate to better overclock. Seems to be the cheapest around for a decent card for overclocking. I believe this is also a dual BIOS version which means that you can modify the BIOS for one without fear that you will brick your cards.

Enjoy guys!

ProjectZero

P.S. Don't forget the Cashrewards 1.2% cash back

As per user fatpizza, double check the dimensions before purchase, the FTW seems to be slightly longer taller than the SC versions

edit 21/09/2016
Price dropped from $867 to $860

  • Anyone know the difference between this and the one posted here https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/266626 (other than the price)

    • I can't tell them apart, even the comments are the same!

      • The DT are the ones that haven't passed the benchmark requirements to be sold as a pure FTW card. They are still FTW cards but are not 100% reliable.

There was a long thread on the EVGA forums about it where fans weren't happy and EVGA explained they had all these cards they had nothing else they could do with.

So yes, the DT version is always going to be cheaper.

        • If that's the reason, I wonder if that's the reason they labeled these DT (using the japanese meaning ;))

    • hey, which one are you referring to?

      This one or this one?

Either way, based on the chart in the link below, you should be able to tell the difference

      http://au.evga.com/Products/Product.aspx?pn=08G-P4-6284-KR

Basically, Gaming ACX 3.0 has 1x 8pin, less power phases and single BIOS, the other FTW has the same pins, power phases and BIOS but higher factory overclock.

Be wary when buying this model if you are putting it in a smaller case as it's quite a tall card. I bought the FTW version (not DT) to fit into my Mini-ITX case and although it fit the power plug position meant I couldn't plug in the power. Ended up selling it and getting a SC version instead which is about 1.7cm shorter.

Oh, didn't know there was a difference, must be the added power plugs then. I'll add that to the description. Thanks!

      • It's actually the fans. I believe they're 100mm on the FTW and 90mm on the regular ACX3.0.

edit actually scratch that, the PCB is just wider in general…

      • Maybe update the OP again, the card are the same length (around 27cm) but the height of the card is different. :)

  • Why would one get the FTW over the SC version which has higher speeds out of the box and is the same price?

The SC version has previously been in the $840 region not too long ago before the aud got smashed.

    • Which one are you referring to? If it is the normal SC version, it is possible that they use the standard PCB which has less power phases and less power pins. Having more power pins and phases ensures the quality of power is better and more stable and thus leads to better overclocking performance. Just because the clocks on paper is higher doesn't really translate to when you use the cards.

Since the GTX 600 series overclocking has been different, the boosted clocks change depending on your power input, the boosted clocks on paper is pretty much the minimum that you should get.

      -edit-

Take this card for example, I can tell you for a fact that my two cards came out at 1.1 GHz boosted clock straight out of the box.

      • This one http://www.newegg.com/global/au/Product/Product.aspx?item=N8…

That should link directly to the SC ACX 3.0. I haven't studied the differences in too much detail so I might be missing something obvious.

        • Based on the EVGA website, the SC Gaming ACX 3.0 has 1 BIOS chip, less power plugs and phase, so effectively, the potential is lower. FTW is for the DIY overclockers, if you don't plan on overclocking, the SC Gaming will be fine as well.

        • Ah cool, thanks for the clarification. Just spotted this deal for the base version, not bad but not sure about the OC potential?

        • @muzzling: No probs, honestly, if you don't plan to overclock the other one is cheaper and will work just as well. I generally look to overclock and after getting a reference PCB GTX 780, I think I'd rather get a custom PCB version from now on… Reference cards don't seem to overclock as well.

  • doesnt include GST Grrrrr

    • +1

I'm pretty sure it doesn't incur GST. The GST threshold should be anything over $1000.
