i remember i paid $400 for ipad air 16gb space grey around 2 years ago at big w, good investment, going strong until today.

    • me too. still going - waiting for features that justify upgrading to

    • Same I got the ipad air 16gb from kogan from this deal 2 years and 2 months ago for $400- https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/150885

It was an amazing deal since it was the newest ipad out at the time. I'm still using it and I think I'll wait until a new ipad is released before updating.

    • my kids complained about 16gb storage too small, heavier and slower than Air 2, two iPad air still going strong

  • Will the 4g version work in Australia?

    • i think Apple specs are standard across all countries

      • +2

Except the US as they come with different LTE frequencies especially the one sold for AT&T and Tmobile. I believe the Verizon version is same with the rest of the world.

  • +1

i would assume they are consider as "grey-import", right? (ie can't bring item to Apple AU store for warranty)

    • They ship from HK, so yes.

      • Hey lostn any ideas about the 4g working in Australia?

    • I thought Apple honour warranty for Wi-Fi devices regardless of purchase location but not for cellular devices. HAs this changed?

      • they only don't honour warranty is its a special model eg verizon version from usa that's because they don't keep stock in australia but if they have the same model here they honour the warranty.

        • Will they give you 2 years warranty?

        • +3

          @lostn:

No. Grey import = 1 Year Warranty

        • @dingdong3000: I bought an iPad from Apple store few days ago. When I asked them about the warranty, I was told 1 year (not 2 years).

        • +2

          @netsurfer:

The additional year warranty is only covered through Apple AU under Australian consumer law.

        • @dingdong3000: But he said he bought it from the Apple store themselves. So they shouldn't have told him 1 year.

        • @lostn:
Probably wanted to sell him applecare+ or that person was new ;)

        • +3

@lostn: Official warranty from Apple is one year. However, legally, they are bounded by the Australian consumer law. The law was originally designed to protect consumers with phones on a contract (normally 2 years). It just doesn't make sense that Apple only provide 1 year warranty (the telcos need 2 years).

          http://www.apple.com/au/legal/statutory-warranty/

Apple generally have good service, but it is true that Apple AU provide better service than Apple in some of the Asian countries (partially due to Australian consumer law).

However, at the end of the day, it is best the Apple product(s) you have don't need warranty service. Despite Apple having top notch service and their refurbished products are good quality (compared to some of the others), warranty replacement generally means you get refurbished ones. I've heard of a couple of not so good stories about the refurbished Apple devices (Apple did replace them with other refurbished ones though).

You can check the warranty status of your iPads purchased from Kogan on Apple Web site online. Apple used to take the manufactured date (+ a few days) to determine the end date of the warranty. They appeared to have changed to use the date you first activate the device (which is better for iPads sold by Kogan, as they tend to be old stock). There "might" be one minor advantage of iPads from Kogan (maybe iPad Air 2's only), you might get one with old iOS (might just be lucky enough to get iOS 8 for iPad Air 2, which may help if jailbreak is important to you). From Apple store, it will be iOS 9.3.5 minimum.

First year, you should be fine. Second year, it is really up to Apple. Just go to Apple store and ask them for help if you need to for the second year warranty service. Obviously, you don't need to pro-actively bring up it is a grey import (Apple know anyway). They may choose to be nice to you. Do factor in that Apple may choose not to give you any second year warranty service and it is a HK stock (inferior resale value later on).

  • I just spent $600 in the last 2 days… :/

Did DS/K raise prices for this sale?

    • +2

      Only $600?

      • Yes, and none of it was from ebay. I almost spent another $500 but the deadline passed as I baulked.

The air 2 was worth upgrading to because the lack of ram in the air was annoying. I had the air and it would always reload pages browsing the net, and sometimes the tablet would restart just browsing. The air 2 received 2gb of ram and it still runs 10 just fine. I'd like to upgrade to the pro, but I looked into the thread on Whirlpool and there was users that tried the pro and decided to go back to their air 2 because it wasn't a good enough upgrade. The thing is the air 2 runs everything on the app store just fine and for most users that's good enough. The screen is also a bit warmer on the pro and some don't like that.

    • +1

I would think the big reason for many would be for the pen

      • Yes the pen and the speakers. Also the pro doesn't vibrate with the volume up like on the air 2. Some don't like that. :)

    • +1

The screen is warmer because of the True Tone display…..which most people forget that you can actually turn it off.
I do graphic design for uni and my 9.7 iPP's display is much better than my mates Air 2 because of the wider DCI-P3 gamut. Other than that, if you aren't fussed about the speakers or pen support, then you're right: no point upgrading unless you have cash to burn.

      • Curse that darn DC1-P3 gamut…..

  • +3

$417.6 for a Ipad Air 2 Wifi only. Great price!

    • 16GB? Worth it to get 64gb version for about hundred and fifteen dollars more?

      • +2

Yes. Makes it much more useable since there's no expandable memory.

Do I think $115 is a fair price to pay for 48 GB of storage? Hell no, but that's what you have to pay.

        • Yeah that's the thing keeping me from pulling the trigger on the 16gb. Can't use sd cards on this. So tempted though cuz it's over a hundred dollars cheaper

        • @Jared17: I don't need the storage.. so yup.. $400 is expensive enough for me :P Wish they were at android prices haha.

        • @onurbmil: They are at Android prices, unless you're comparing them to Chinese tablets.

  • Can I get some opinions on the value of DSKs iPad mini range? Starts at under $300 for the mini2. I've got a mini1 from yonks ago, and really like the size.

    http://m.ebay.com.au/sch/i.html?_sop=15&isRefine=true&cnm=Ta…

    • +1

Don't get the mini 2 or mini 3, they have aged badly. mini 4 might be worth it.

But seriously, just get the regular sized iPad Air 2 or iPad Pro, they're not that much heavier and they generally have much better performance.
I have a mini 2 and the Air 2 completely blows it out of the water. I also found that the mini's small form factor wasn't as handy as I thought it would be, and the small display makes using it for lengthy periods tiresome.

The Air 2 is by far the best value in the current lineup. iPad Pro is nice to have, but you probably won't notice the performance difference under normal circumstances or until new games arrive that push the envelope.

  • Mhmm is it worth upgrading my mum from an iPad Air 1 to an iPad Air 2 or Pro? How's the weight difference?

    • +2

I just upgraded my mum's ipad mini3 to ipad air 2. lol

      • +1

You guys are so cute <3 lol

      • Not sure how old ur mum is but does she find it easy to navigate? Thinking maybe I should get my mum one so she can watch stuff in bed but she can barely use her phone lol

        • She likes her iPad Air over iPhone 6 Plus, even with a bigger iPhone screen she still chooses the iPad.

Just wondering if I should get the Air or Pro.

        • Bad Bad habit! Then again watching on the couch isn't any better…

    • I don't think it's a worthwhile upgrade personally. I have an iPad Air at home, and use an Air 2 at work. It's a bit lighter and sleeker, but not really enough to justify having both. It has more RAM, but personally I've never run into any issues with the Air 1.

  • Great deal, do you know if Apple Australia will honor the warranty??

    • +2

They will for these since the HK models are the same as the AU ones. This was an issue way back for older iPhones because Apple AU don't stock the HK models. However, with the 4G models now supporting more bands, HK and AU now use the same models.

The advantage of buying from Apple AU store is that you can get the 14 day no question asked money back guarantee. These ones, you will need to go through Kogan if you want a refund.

      • Thanks @netsurfer , this was very useful

  • +2

By the way it looks like they increased the price for Air 2 128GB Wifi before the discount:
    On Apple store: $719
    On Ebay site: $892.99

In this case it will be better to order directly from Apple Australia.

  • Anyone know how long this deal will go on for? 2 more days to be eligible for TRS… :(

    • +3

Code valid till 26th Sept however im pretty sure these are grey imports so no TRS

  • Can you buy apple care for this?

    • +1

      if it's an apple, yes

      • Thanks blaze, called apple and they said yes. Now i am tempted

        • +3

Don't waste your money on apple care.

        • @videoman:yeah just ask ozbargain

  • why is the gold air2 16gb version cheaper than the others?

  • nice nice….. thinking to get one for my gf……..

  • -4

any TRS claim out of it?

    • +3

Been answered numerous time already in the post and previous posts… Kogan/DS sells grey imports so no TRS.

  • good deal! got the ipad pro 12.9 128 for 978. just missed an ebay listing for the pencil for 80.

  • Finally some good prices for the pro models. Would have to be the cheapest new price yet. Good enough to get my money. Also good to see Kogan didn't jack up his prices this time!

  • +2

Do we have to pay customs for the pro 128GB models?

  • Does anyone know if you can purchase AppleCare for these from Apple shops in Oz.

  • Tempted to get cellular and pop in a $5 data sim off my phone for my mum, is the 64GB worth it or is there a cheaper option?

  • +4

Dick Smith will be using Toll to deliver. From my experience, Toll's one of the worst couriers in Australia for home delivery. I wasn't home and they left a card. No big deal, right? I went online and picked the preferred day, but my request was ignored and they tried to deliver twice whenever their contractors felt like delivering. With the second and third cards, I couldn't indicate my preferred day on their website, and had to call, which took 20 min each time. Again, my iPad Pro wasn't delivered on the day I was told it would. I phoned them only to find that it never left the depot, which was too far to pick up from. After more drama and two days of forced home stay for my Mrs, it was eventually delivered at 6:00am.

    • +1

Kogan (prefer to call it Kogan, rather than DS) may use other couriers. Mine was delivered by DHL. I do have more issues with Toll than other couriers though. Inconsistent delivery date/time (yeah, you expect it to be delivered a certain date, and turned out to be a totally different date).

  • Tempted to buy an iPad Pro 32GB, 1 level up is the 128GB, price diff is about $175. Is it worth spending the extra bucks for more storage?

It's for my partner who's not doing much on the tablet, her iPad Air 32GB is still half empty, so I guess 32GB should be good?

    • not really mate, remember apps getting bigger and bigger, I recommend 128gb

    • +3

You answered your own question.. 32GB seems to be enough for her. Don't waste $175 on storage she won't even use.

  • Guys I am an Android guy and dont know much about the iPad pro vs iPad Air. I want to give one of these as a gift.

Which one would you recommend and why?

    • Some info on who it's for would be helpful. I.e the type of use.

Basic web browsing with videos? Air.
Wants to try out drawing and play games? Pro.

      • Sorry..yes basic usage…web browsing with a lot of gaming though none of it being high end graphics intensive ones.

        No drawing for sure.

        SO would the Air suffice?

        • SO would the Air suffice?

          It should be fine.

This person doesn't sound like a heavy user. The difference is mainly an updated processor which it doesn't look like they are going to need.

      • Just remember that drawing requires you to buy the Apple pencil which retails for $165.

  • +1

iPad Air 64GB and 16GB have been removed from their range as of two weeks ago, which is why you'll see price coming down in the next few weeks as stores are getting rid of remainder stock. You'll find the 32GB and 128GB they are replacing with to be really price competitive, I'd be really careful about buying it now unless it's super cheap. The RRP for 128GB is $719 (wifi) and $879 (wifi and cellular).

    • Thanks for the heads up! As we are going overseas soon so with the 10% from TRS….might just be better to wait it out and get that extra yr of warranty from Apple for a little bit more :) I have a "new ipad" I think it is really the ipad 4…and would like to upgrade it and possibly grab another :)

      • That's the short lived iPad 3, not the 4 which replaced it only 6 months later that year. It's the last one before the switched over to lightning cable.

        • OMG! It's even older than I thought LOL…my son has actually has claimed it but I feel a bit bad cos it's quite heavy….so thinking the air would be better :)

          Oh wait…mine is a lightning cable charger….o_O

  • The new iPad Air 2 32GB on apple website is now $569, so is this ebay 16gb version's price ($418 after discount) still good?

    • In my opinion, no. It means without the discount, Kogan is selling a grey import 16GB for $522.50.

  • +1

Can anyone recommend a bargain keyboard to go with the iPad Pro 9.7?

  • +1

Can anyone recommend a good cheap case for the Air 2? Just bought it for dad!

  • 3 weeks wait for shipping :/

  • Thanks OP, just bought the iPad Air 2.

    • Hi Monty168

Does DSE/Kogan send an official receipt? or we have to request for it?

  • Thoughts on a decent keyboard case for iPad Air 2?

  • Does DSE/Kogan send an official receipt? or we have to request for it?

    • Related question…what would be he process of claiming warranty. Keep the receipt of purchase with Kogan/DSE and take to Apple?

  • Bought an 9.7 Pro 128GB.
Good discount and this device will last for ages, say next 5 years with my kid.
    Thanx

  • Anyone received the tracking order yet?

    • Actually got mine today. Really fast, bought it 2 hours before the sale ended.

  • got it, working. No manual though? not that I need one but its always concerning not getting it
