  • wow. the prices are high!

Yeah I agree, but I guess it's more for people who have a good use for them. I'm using mine to teach at school and the kids love it. Really helps those ones that struggle with pen and paper to grip a concept and because of the pro's large size, usually 4 at a time can share it. Works wonders in my class!

Do you ever get lazy and just put a movie on?

Careful now, you don't want a good teacher be misunderstood! Keep it up with the good work Watty!

Haha! No I don't do that unless it's like the last hour of the day at school for the term. I do usually use it to show them interesting clips from YouTube to introduce the lesson focus.

        • @justfrog: Thanks mate!

I don't know about you but I still get a little excited when I see a Dick Smith deal (withdrawal symptom from of a number of great deals from DS in the past I suppose) and then I see Kogan and it puts me off completely.

So whatever good vibration Kogan was hoping from the Dick Smith brand is simply not working. It's also rather unfortunate that Kogan rhymes with bo***.

  • +3

remember Kogan only offers 12 month warranty (if your lucky). Apple will cover 2 years for major faults.

    • +3

I got a Kogan iPhone 5C replaced by an Apple store without any issues.

      • After the first year of warranty?

        • Standard Apple warranty is only 1 year anyway, but had one replaced after 1 year warranty at no cost as it was associated to battery issue, which Apple seem to replace no matter what age the phone is.

        • @asa79: you got lucky then. Apple refused to entertain any requests for my foreign purchased iphone 5 because it was outside 1 yr and wasnt covered under statutory warranty.

        • @hashtagbargain: so they did exactly what theyre obligated to do, which was nothing?

    • Dick Smith will cover 0 month of warranty. It happened to my friend who bought a TV just before they flipped.

  • Is this grey import?

    • You'll have to visit grey's list……

    • +5

Yeah, but the iPad Pro is reviewed as having the most accurate writing input of any tablet

        • +6

Ah, good old cognitive dissonance because specs on paper translate to stuttering, crashing shit in real world usage.

        • Rubbish - plenty of designers reviewing this against industry standard Wacom devices.

but the android doesn't run iOS and so can't use the iOS apps. no point having cheap hardware if it doesn't run what you want.

      • -7

        no point having cheap hardware

Actually most mid to high range android tablets have higher specs than the apple ipads

but the android doesn't run iOS and so can't use the iOS apps.

The majority of iOS apps are available on Android

        • +18

I have both iPad and an android tablet.

Overall, iPad is a superior tablet by a long shot. You just feeling like using the iPad more.

        • +1

You usually post some good bargains, but in this case you really have no idea what you are talking about.

Try using an iPad Pro for a few days or weeks and then come back and post your thoughts. I am certain that they will change.

          Nah

ITT: Apple fan boys defend their masculinity, such a fragile lot. Don't worry boys 0.02c has been deposited into your iTunes account.

        • @fchis:
This is a pretty pointless comment unless you say what model Android tablet & iPad.You could be talking about a 5yr old Android and the latest iPad. I also have both and will pickup the Galaxy S2 tablet long before I touch the iPad. In fact the iPad has become the kids toy.

        • C'mon EC, you should know by now that the comment section for Apple products is full of apple fanboys and vice versa on microsoft/android deals. I wouldn't bother if i were you

        • Find me an Android laptop that can beat the A9X in the iPad Pro. Heck, find me a tablet that can beat the triple core A8X in the iPad Air 2.

        • -1

          @changa:

Try using an iPad Pro for a few days

I tried it and got rid off it after a week. Cannot justify paying such a high premium for an apple logo.

    • Android on tablets is just stretched mobile OS and Apps designed for mobiles only. And ipad pro have pretty good pencil. If you are not using the stylus than you are just getting giant ipad. Better get iPad air 2 instead.
I am personally not fan of either OS. I am using Surface pro 3. I have replaced all the books and notebooks for my uni with Surface and its pen. Using stylus for drawing and taking notes is worth $1000.

    • Yeah but Android…

  • Has anyone ever experienced issues with claiming repairs/replacements/other services under warranty with an Apple product brought internationally, and not Aussie stock?
And while I'm asking: has anyone ever had Apple demand seeing proof of purchase for these things?

In my experience, Apple doesn't need to see your proof of purchase, just as long as you activate your product, can log in to your account on the device and there hasn't been any issues such as your device being marked at stolen etc.

Just not sure on the international thingo.
    Cheers!

    • +2

you can take any apple product into any apple store no issues, internationally.

    • +1

The issue is the 2 year warranty. Officially apple give1 year and if they supply the hardware then will give a 2nd year warranty quietly. Otherwise apple will argue the2nd year warranty falls on the responsibility of the retailer where you bought it from. YMMV with regards to warranty claims though, sometimes they bend the rules a little.

    • Although I haven't got a need to actually engage in the warranty process, I do have confirmed with Apple, both online and in the Apple Store that my MacBook Air bought from qd_au on eBay (grey import from Taiwan) will be covered by apple 's warranty for 1 year only. Whereas the ones sold by Apple Store or other retailers in Australia will be covered by the ACL which states that the product should remain good within a reasonable period of use, which, apparently Apple Store takes an interpretation that by reasonable it generally means 2 to 3 years for a laptop. So, the grey imports should have the same warranty as local bought ones within the first year after purchase, but after that, it's unlikely that Apple will continue warranting the product, while local stock can possibly claim warranty against Apple or the retailer 2-3 years after purchase.

      • If Apple offer a second year warranty for the same product then I reckon theyre clearly stating it should last that long& so ACL warranty must be valid.

  • The title is slightly incorrect … there is no such thing as a iPad Air 2 32GB —> the price mentioned is for the 16GB. :-) But good prices.

  • +2

I might be picky, but I hate the AC power adaptor converter things with grey imports. Makes it more bulky, especially when travelling. That and the warranty issues as mentioned above are enough to put me off.

    • 1V USB charger with local pins at Target/KMart is $10.

Our family has heaps of chargers from other older devices and I have bought several extra 2V chargers for spare.

Also, if you have a phone, you could still manage with one charger, charge your phone over night and your tablet during the day.

  • +5

Keep in mind that if item is coming from HK, declared value of more than $1000 will attract assessment fee and also 10% tax payable. Unless you can show GST has been paid at checkout.

I paid $915 for iPhone 6S 64GB 3 months ago, but Kogan declared pre discount price, so I was called by Toll Australia and asked to pay $50 open box assessment fee and 10% tax. I did not end up paying as I paid less than $1000, and refused to pick it up if I have to pay. Eventually the Toll guy sorted it out, and had it released from custom with my payment evidence.

If you guys had gotten away from 10% tax, let me know what's the right way please as I'd consider buying from Kogan again.

    • Hey OzB.

The sale price that is advertised should be the only price to be paid
We do not expect any extra import duties to be paid by our customers and we should not expect our customer's to be contacted by couriers for any extra payments.
If any customers encounter this, they should contact us directly for this to be resolved.

      Kindest regards,
      Thomas @ Kogan.com

      • I assume that the Kogan systems don't handle or have limited visibility of eBay/PayPal promotional coupons and simply mark their advertised sale price on the shipment which is then subject to GST assessment. If I look at one of my transactions in PayPal with the current promotion (C20DS), it indicates that the full price was transferred to "Dick Smith" even though I paid the discounted price with the coupon.

      • +1

Thanks Thomas. I'm reluctant to shop online (not just from Kogan, but all international source) now for any item close to $1,000, as I was surprised to get that call from Toll group. The logistic officer had no way to have it released from custom, and it was stucked in awaiting clearance status for 2 days per Tracking status (if I'm not mistaken).

It was a legitimate Toll group Brisbane office phone number with name and email. It was my paypal statement showing I paid less than $1,000 final price that saved me.

Hope this never happen to anyone. I only put it up there to make OzB community aware of the tax payable for item with $1,000 or more declared value. I took that as lesson learnt with no harm done to my piggybank. Had a mini heart attack though being a qualified OzB finding out having to pay 10% more for my discounted iPhone. =D

      • Hey Thomas when are these shipping out? I paid for mine (iPad Pro 9 inch) on Sunday and I've had zero communication on my order via eBay.

  • +1

Some Mini 3 are more expensive than their Mini 4 counterparts.

Why did Kogan buy DSE's branding? Are all their stock still HK grey imports?

It's almost September by the way. That means new iPads and iPhones.

    • I think it's because of the cellular stuff. And storage.

  • +2

got mum an ipad air for xmas. yeah, they are pretty (profanity) sweet.

  • I wish I could do coding/web development on these, but Apple has them locked down so that no environment changes can be made.

    Surface it is.

  • Anyone know where to get a cheap old version ipad (2 or 3 - not mini) for the little kid (bar gumtree or ebay) ideally refurbished or new?

    Cheers
    Chris~

    • There's usually a few going at the police unclaimed property auctions.

    iPad Mini 4 64GB Wi-Fi $561.60
    iPad Mini 3 64GB Wi-Fi $577.60

Others the difference is a few bucks.

For a one generation SoC difference, it's totally not worth getting a Mini 3.

  • So can someone confirm whether it's poss to claim trs if travelling?

    • You don't even pay GST to Kogan. So what's there to claim?

  • Thanks OP. You know of any deals on Android tablets?

  • +1

Thanks OP, grabbed 3 iPads for point of sale use :) Note the "Sold out" iPad Air 2/16GB is back in stock

    • Android fans probably consider this the ultimate use case for iPads…
      ie. being a P.O.S.

Look at the item locations. Anything over $1000 after the discount is shipped from Melbourne, which should mean you get an Australian invoice and get charged GST. That means you can get a TRS GST refund and Apple would honour warranty for two years under ACL.

  • Interested in the ipad pro 12 inch for less than $1K after the discount. Do you guys know if I could claim it on my tax return? Assume not since I'm not paying GST?

  • Hi,

Does anyone know if i purchased two of these iPads from Kogan/Ebay if i can purchase Applecare in Melbourne to cover these devices? My son needs one for school next year but also need Applecare.

    Thankyou

Had an issue with this C20DS deal through eBay.

Added a Go Pro camera to cart plus 4 batteries plus 1 suction cup. Processed with code in cart and it failed, charged me full price for camera and didn't add other two items.

Fairly disappointed. Communication with DickSmith eBay account slow and from eBay ok. My mistake for trying to get a bargain I guess. I requested item get cancelled and I re-purchase and was told it had already been dispatched. Yet had an email asking for a non-PO Box so hadn't answered so don't know how it's been dispatched.

    • I had this problem last night too - bought ipad plus screen protector, charged full amount and screen protector didn't get included in the purchase.

      weird

      • spoke to ebay, technically i messed up - used a different paypal email address to the one thats officially linked in ebay account settings. this is against the T&C's of the promo.

They are processing a manual refund despite my mistake, will take time but very nice of ebay to do this.

I just bought an Ipad Pro 9.7 32GB + Cell from Myer for $999 (they couldnt price match TGG $989 but said they could do it for $999 as it was "below their cost")
I saw this deal before I purchased but in my case I wanted the local support and stat warranty so thought that was worth the extra $100 compared to the deal $882 here.
    Each to their own

  • Just received an ipad from this deal, but it doesn't come with an Australian charger.

I'd read from previous Kogan grey market imports that usually include an adaptor. Can anyone confirm if on this deal or any previous purchases they have got an Australian charger or adaptor?
