NAT VPS France £2.49 ~$4.3/yr (512MB ram/ 500GB bw) £3.49~$6/yr (1024MB ram/ 1TB bw) 40 IPv4 ports, /96 IPv6 Myserverplanet

I was looking for a cheap NAT VPS and came across this with Myserverplanet in France:

HDD:10GB disk space RAM:512MB ram SWAP:512mb swap NAT VPS with 40 PORTS Bandwidth:500GB bandwidth IPs:/96 IPv6 + 1 Shared IPv4 NatVPS 1

HDD:20GB disk space RAM:1024MB ram SWAP:1024MB swap IPs: /96 IPv6 + 1 Shared IPv4 Bandwidth:1TB bandwidth NatVPS 2

Found it advertised on LET - "doubled up RAM" may imply that they normally only offer 256/512MB on these products.

Pricing / features compare favourably with e.g. i-83 (who have more locations, which may suit some better).

  • I know what is VPS, but I don't know what NAT VPS is. Does this NAT mean Network address translation? So this VPS doesn't have a public IP address?

    • +2

Exactly, you just get a range of 40 ports on a public IPv4 address.

what do you guys use this kinda thing for?

    • Seedbox

      • hmm but i just rent a seedbox for that purpose.

ill ask another question. what do people use these for besides seedboxes?

        • -1

          mumble\teamspeak\irc\whatever servers.
Anything multi user related that can have a port defined.
          OwnCloud, remote backup. etc etc.

The problem with renting a seedbox, is that thats usually all you're allowed to do on it.
This is renting ports on an ACTUAL server

    • You could use it to set up your own personal cloud, using stuff like:

to automate the setup. Possible reasons for doing so: lower cost, privacy, fun etc. Although there's nothing preventing you from doing this on your home connection as well, if you've got a spare computer lying around that you can put in your router's DMZ (or get even more fancy with port knocking and such).

  • I was thinking of playing around with ownCloud, maybe a private VPN and proxy.

You can of course use as a web server (on a non-standard IPv4 port or via Cloudflare using IPv6).

Probably not very good for a game server.

  • What type of cable do I need so I can connect this server to my TV?

    • I think the brand is called 'Southern Cross'. It's one of the cables in their 'submarine' line (weird name).

      • A month late, but a witty response nonetheless. I think few people will get this one. :)

  • Price is per month not per year.

    • No, per year.

      • Sorry I was clicking around and came back to the wrong item.
