Wow…. I can't believe the horseshit on their website justifying this - women retire earlier and live longer so they need more super?

May as well say "Men work longer and die alot earlier…. Sucks to be them… Lets give them less money."

Their statement that men retiring now have twice as much super is misleading because when those men and women were working - there was the notion of the 'breadwinner'.

TBH… Some of their points re: E.g maternity have some validity and paying super during these times is a great step - but it should be noted that upon Divorce super is divisible so differences that arise from family circumstances are negated.

The biggest winners from this policy are spinsters and the biggest losers gay and single men whose personal circumstances are alike (no family leave issues) and yet the spinsters are far better off.

Any idea when this offer ends? I can't see an expiry date.

    • Im trying to find that myself too

  • I think it is worth noting that the free travel insurance with ANZ card is pretty good compared to most other institutions' credit cards, in the sense that you only need to spend $250 on the card (for the trip) for the travel insurance to kick in. Others often require the plane tickets to be booked using their credit card.

  • is this better than Bankwest Platinum Zero?

  • I applied for the card just then but wasn't prompted to enter in my velocity membership number before submitting the application. Do we set this up after the application is approved?

    • yea i noticed that too.. plus the fact that this ad is not there in the real anz website, i cant help but wonder if this is a targeted ad!

      • +3

my card got approved today, the ANZ personnel told me to link the accounts when i receive my card later this week

        • Cheers.

  • I just called and ask
The officer advised me no such thing about the 40000 points
She mentioned only flight return and free lounge pass

    • Same called up and they said there are NO bonus points offer, just the free flight…

      • well it's on the website now so tell them they are full of S***!!!

    • That would suck but I guess the free flights and lounge passes would still be greater than the $225 fee. Still a good replacement for 28 Degrees.
Still… wonder if they would honour the 40000 points :(

Just tried calling myself got told heaps of ozbargainers have been calling and they are waiting for a call back from promotions if they give pass this deal on or not.

She said once I get my cards in the mail to try again then when I call to activate my cards.

      • Ill call up again then. Dont you have to pay the fee before you get the cards?

        • well I havnt paid anything yet and apparently they are in the mail

        • @taurenpally:

Spoke to two people at ANZ about it and they both told me they are not doing the points, Virgin sent it out to select people and have now cancelled the points deal with ANZ.

        • @zacsg1: how odd. all well thanks for the update :)

        • @zacsg1:

I just called ANZ and got tranaferred to their cards team as the sales team can't see it. They mentioned that the offer exists with 40k points and they received an email from their partner confirming it earlier today.

        • @KissandLove:

WTF time to call the complaints line…

        • @KissandLove: man this is so confusing! i wouldnt have taken this card if there was no points with it! i dont think 60days in advance booking for a domestic flight is worth the trouble of having 2 extra cards!

        • +3

          @samsal46:

Ok so after complaining and being on hold for 30 mins i can confirm that you do get the bonus 40,000 points! Was told the different departments have been told different things :/

        • +2

after i was approved the card this evening, they put me on hold for ~5 minutes when i asked them. they came back telling me that i am eligible for the 40,000 points and that i just need to ask them to do it when i activate my cards that should arrive in 3-5 business days

        • @che0173: Thanks for the information. I'll call up once mine is approved. Still waiting.

        • @zacsg1:

All that for nothing, the application was not accepted :/

        • @zacsg1:
your application for the card? or the points?

        • @mattlol:

          Card dont know why

  • did anyone notice this offer is not there in the anz website? wonder why?

    • +3

I just found the offer on the ANZ mobile site as an advertisement. It is not on the normal ANZ website. That's why.

    • it's on the site now!

      • hmm it's gone now. was definitely showing on the homepage on my computer at home using google chrome :/

  • How does this go as far as a replacement for travel insurance, could be worth getting for even a year to have all the perks and travel insurance on a big trip?

  • The 40K points offer is now on the home page so they definitely can't say it doesn't exist now lol.

    • I cant see it on their normal webpage still, only the mobile page. Their normal webpage has the card without the 40k points. Do you have a link?

      • hmm it's gone now. was definitely showing on the homepage on my computer at home using google chrome :/

  • Oh I just signed up to this card the other day (2 sets of the them for 2 different purposes!).
Can I cancel the cards and then resign up using this deal?

  • +2

Just an update. I called ANZ just then. Card been approved but I haven't received it. Was told the offer for 40000 point is on. Need to call ANZ Rewards Centre to add the velocity membership number and it'll be credited 2 months after the criteria has been met - the $500 in 3 months spent.

    • Thanks for the update!
Seems weird that they make you call to add your velocity number to the card when it is supposed to earn velocity points. I think somebody forgot to add that field to the application form lol

      • +1

The card itself earns ANZ reward points that can then be converted to velocity points manually or set up as auto redemption. I suppose it makes sense to add the number through the rewards team. But it's just confusing given the initial free points.

Edit: I see the deal on their website now

  • I just called back regarding my situation ie. Activated my card a few days prior to the promotion…and seeing whether they could add the 40k points to my bonus….

    Answer… No :( argh!!

  • +1

anyone know if the additional card holder gets a free flight too?

also just tried to apply online, says site not working due to maintenance

  • +1

Has anyone activated successfully and had their virgin details included?

    • I'm interested in this too

    • +4

I had to go to a branch to verify my ID. They activated my cards at the branch but said I would need to call the Rewards team during the week to link my velocity account. Called up and linked my velocity membership number and after doing so I asked the Rewards team if I was eligible for the 40K bonus points. They didn't know and had to transfer me through to the cards department to confirm, where I was finally told that my account did have the offer as long as the criteria for minimum spend were met.

      • After all this time they still don't know about this 40K lol wow.

  • -4

Can anyone suggest how to sell the free return flight to someone (I am not going to use it)? It obviously requires the passenger info beforehand (before you book the flights) and it makes the whole selling process difficult. I am not referring to ANZ card but I have the free flight to be used with my Amex. Any suggestions will help.

  • So I signed up to this a week ago, and called up the ANZ Rewards Centre today to try to add my Velocity number to my account. They said that because I didn't go through the 'targeted email', I wasn't eligible. So I then told them the full web address for the link above to the sign up page, and they saw it, but said that it was a 'limited offer' and that you needed to have signed up from between July and September this year. Has anyone else come across this, or has anyone else been able to speak to someone who can get you the 40k points? If I'd known that the points were limited to people who signed up between July and September, I probably wouldn't have signed up for this card.

EDIT: So I called up the Cards Department, and they're able to see the offer on my card, but to add the Velocity details, I've got to add it through the Rewards Centre, which is only open during normal business hours. I'll give that a go and hope it works!

    • Interesting how everyone is being told different things. Really poor from ANZ.
If they don't want to offer the 40K points, I will threaten to cancel the card.

    • So… I am having a lot of trouble getting these points. The credit card team says I am eligible however the rewards team is straight out refusing to apply the bonus points because the offer had expired in September. I even got the credit card team to speak to the reward team and they still wouldn't offer it. The rewards team have escalated the issue and are waiting for them to get back to them to see if I am actually eligible or not. This is so much hassle for 40k points. I'm just going to count it as a loss at this stage… there was no indication of an offer period on the link… and the offer was on their webpage despite it being expired…

      • I called up today after activating my cards. Cards department said they didn't know anything about it and nothing was registered to my card. Then I spoke to rewards, and they didn't know anything about it either. They also said it was meant to finish in September. My problem with that is. 1. That is not mentioned in their terms and conditions at all. 2. The 40,000 points deal was advertised to me in various banner ads on websites I visited after I applied. I have launched a complaint and they are looking into it. The only reason I got the card was for the 40,000, so they better let me cancel if they wont award them.

        • +1

What the hell. I just signed up to this without reading all these comments. They better bloody apply it! I've seen it advertised in mobile apps and websites this month, so they can't claim it expired in September. I applied via the OzB link though, not through the adverts. I hope that wasn't my downfall.

        • I was just approved a few days ago too! The only reason I applied was to get the points >_< The guy on the phone said I should definitely get them if I signed up with the link… But he didn't really know anything about it. So frustrating.

        • +2

@elliebargain: Same thing happened to me. After I applied I called to make sure Id get the points (based on comments from this thread) and the person said that yes if the website link I used said that they'd be approved. So I went ahead with the application.

        • Just called to add my Velocity number. Mentioned the 40k points but the lass I was talking to didn't really say anything about it either way, just asked for my velocity number and the name on my velocity card.
For others who have called up, were there any other steps involved? Did you have to request the rewards centre to "activate" the offer or anything?

        • @TomMor: Keep us posted. I signed up for their Black card at the start of the year and for MONTHS they said I was eligible for the 75K Qantas points, and to just keep waiting. I only found out a few weeks ago from another phone call to them that actually becuase of the way my card was set up (transferred from an old one), it didn't register as a new card and I would not get the points. I don't have high hopes for this card either but I still thought the flight and lounge passes and no overseas fees were worth it anyway. Hopefully the points come through quick because I am trying to book flights to Europe with KF points and still a ways off.

        • +1

I activated a few days back but only just made the call. Still a bit of a runaround of being transferred from dept to dept but all seems to be good.

Told the first-line support guy I wanted to add Velocity number so would know where to send the bonus pts, also mentioned hadn't been a leaflet about them in Welcome pack. He didn't know anything, on hold 1 min, transferred to Cards. Repeated story, she was very good, took my card details, put on hold 1 min while check promotions, then came back said no problem re pts, I just needed to add Velocity # at rewards, so transfer again. Apparently transferred to wrong part of rewards, transfer one more time. Finally add #. Bit of a pain but only 15 minutes total.

  • +1

I just called the rewards Centre and the officer said if not apply before 30/9 then no bonus points.
This not right as the link posted after this and still valid and mentioned about the bonus points

    • +1

I was told the same thing but it just can't be the case. They still have the link active, its been advertised to people (including myself) outside of the ozbargain link, and it isn't in the terms and conditions. I have lodged a complaint with ANZ and they are investigating atm. They told me they would get back to me by yesterday morning at the latest, which they didn't, so I called up today to find out why. Supposedly someone is getting back to me.

Edit: I suggest others lodge complaints, might help make it a more pressing issue. I'll also ask for the whole thing to be cancelled if I dont get the points. Does anyone know if that would affect my credit score?

      • Yes
I checked the link and it is still active
So they not suppose to say it is expired.
        Will lodge my complaint

  • I called & they transferred me around, think I ended up at the India helpdesk. They flatly denied there was ever any offer of 40000 points they say check the website. In what sounded like a recorded statement they say it's only valid what is in the welcome pack & the website never had anything like that on offer. They may honor it as I have the screenshot http://imgur.com/a/Qo2PZ . Will see what happens

  • +1

^That's my screenshot hehe. I also took an actual photo of my computer screen displaying that on the home page, so I will use that if they try telling me the offer expired in September.

  • +1

Good news, I received the following resolution to my complaint:

"After investigation I confirm your card offer is as follows; One complimentary return domestic flight every year with Virgin Australia when you spend $500 on eligible purchases within the first 3 months
plus bonus 40,000 Velocity points when you spend your $500 on eligible purchases in the first 3 months of approval."

Although no mention of the lounge passes. But I can follow that up later.

    • +1

      Where to lodge the complaint?
      Via email?

      • +1

        There is a phone number, 1800 805 154
I was browsing on my laptop at home and the 40,000 points was now advertised on their main page. Back at work and nothing haha.

  • +1

so i just tried applying on the website .. got declined LOL … oh well … dont think im missing anything from all the troubles you guys are having.

  • I got the card now and when I rang them to link up my Velocity FF, they said, they are not affiliate with Velocity. The points that I will earn when using the card, will be in my Rewards account and from there I can transfer to Velocity. So how do we get the 40,000 Velocity FF bonus points ?

    • I asked the rewards person on the phone and they didn't know at all how they would go across as they are Velocity points and not reward points. She said maybe they would credit 80,000 reward points to the card and they could be transferred across for 40,000 velocity, but that seems unlikely.

I wonder if the cards department needs my velocity number and not just rewards :/

If anyone finds out would love to know.

      • +1

According to this comment, they need you to call up and add your velocity number.

        • Hi, not sure if you read my comment correctly. I rang them and they could not add any FF number as it is ANZ Rewards.

        • +1

@yht: You'll have to call again; a number of us here have had the Rewards team of the call centre successfully add our Velocity number.

        • @ragrum: Good suggestion ! I rang them this morning and they are able to add it. They asked whether I want to setup the auto redemption to Velocity FF. Should I answer YES or NO to get this 40K bonus point ?

        • @yht: It shouldn't make a difference.
I keep my ANZ rewards in ANZ and only transfer them if I need extra points for a flight redemption. If for some reason I was going to redeem for a gift card, it's better to buy them directly with ANZ rather than with Velocity.

  • +4

I just saw a text advert on the YouTube Android app for the 40k points, so it's definately still on offer. How do their internal teams fail so hard?

  • +2

ANZ are a fkn shambles to deal with.

  • +1

So finally got a resolution to the case. I am offered to 40,000 points once I meet the spend criteria, which I have. I'll post back in early december to update. At least theres a note on my account saying I am eligible.

  • +1

I just called today to link my velocity account to the card and to confirm i was eligible again to make sure.. I was told i was two weeks ago that I was, and now today, they are saying that I had to have applied through some link directly on the velocity website?

These people are so inconsistent. They said they will follow it up and give me a call somewhere within the next 48 hrs…

    • +6

Update: I just got called back today and they said that the ozbargain link that i used to apply for the card makes me eligible for the points as long as i meet the spend criteria within the first 3 months.

      • Excellent. Thanks for the update. Plan to apply this week.

  • +1

What a joke ANZ are. Too busy focusing on 'positive discrimination' (AKA paying women a higher rate of super and introducing gender quotas) to bother with customer service.

  • How many points do you need to fly somewhere for free?

    • 11000 gets you from BNE to SYD for nothing. Costs about $120 to buy.

  • +1

I received my cards. The package is rather nice with the passport and luggage tags. There was no mention of my credit limit in either of the packages they sent, but I later found it once the account showed up in my internet banking. The annual fee is listed as $170 for the card, and $55 for the rewards program. I'm already a member of ANZ Rewards on my ANZ Rewards Black account, so I wonder if I can avoid the extra $55.

    • As a current ANZ Rewards cardholder did you apply via the link in the deal? Or did you transfer/negotiate over the phone? I'm curious if there's a way for current anz cardholders to get this deal without incurring an extra credit check.

      • +1

Via the link. The T&Cs say you can't transfer from another card.

  • Card received, Velocity number linked, and now $500 spent. Now to play the waiting game…

    • Haha yeah it's abit like that

  • +1

called rewards centre to link velocity.. I was refused for the 40K bonus points stating the promo ended last September.. ads was still on their website when I applied October 8.. was transfered to their credit card team but they refused as well.. emailed a complaint letter today.. will wait how this goes..

    • +1

Please keep us updated. The link was still live on sat 29 Oct when I applied through it. I have screen shots of it if those would be helpful. I will be pursuing it for my points when the cards are delivered. Just not sure whether the banking ombudsman or a press release is the best course of action. There is ads all over sydney airport for this card at the moment. Maybe the ANZ media department will be more obliged to help than the complaints department. I might get to be on TV.

      • +1

        it's still active now!

        • +2

Page still active, people being told completely different things… What a ridiculous organisation ANZ are. Will definitely be taking this further if the 40K points are not received.

      • after sending them PM in their facebook page one of their representative called me and said I am eligible for the bonus points though i am still waiting for the points to go through..

      • @bigspike finally received my 40,000 velocity points! This is my second statement from the card which i was able to meet the $500 requirement

        • That's awesome. I met spend limit on the day I got the card. Got my points over the weekend. Bonus.

  • +2

I spoke to someone on the rewards team who had no idea of the deal. I even gave them the exact link to the deal and they still couldn't find it in the system. They transferred me to another person who also transferred me to someone else. The last person confirmed that the deal IS active on my card. Hopefully everyone here is still eligible for the deal, even if they've been told otherwise!

    • +1

This seems to be the general consensus , only weird thing is the absence of a field to enter Velocity number on the application form, and then having to call the clueless Rewards staff and hope they've added the velocity number correctly.
