  • Nice. Chat Thai is one of my favourite restaurants in Sydney.

    • I think their Pad Thai is pretty incredible!

I find their other stuff "good" (i.e. Can be found elsewhere with similar quality/taste)

      • Some of their salads are stunning too…that fermented sausage one is to die for!

You're right though, Sydney does have some damn good Thai food if you look around. :)

Agree that chat thai does good thai .. but they have gone down lately … they were much better 5 years ago. Luckily sydney has many excellent reasonably priced thai resturants around.

  • I'm visiting Sydney next week, can you recommend some good Thai restaurant in CBD? Thanks

It's worth giving Chat Thai a go.

There used to be a great little hole-in-the-wall up Cambell street a couple of blocks from CT, they had some of the best boat noodles & hoi tod I've ever had, but last time I went there the menu appeared to have changed, so I'm not sure if they've changed hands or not?

You could also try Hawker & Papparich Malaysian restaurants for some diversity…both very different menus, but both very good as well IMHO.

If you try Papparich, get the Chicken Skins, you'll both love & hate me for that one! :D

I know that after they changed from the old 'hole-in-the-wall' shop to a chain of restaurants, a bunch of the staff stayed the same. fairly sure it's owned by the same people. I'd always see the guy who ran the old shop in the upmarket version upstairs in the galleries once the rebranded all their menus and stuff. I miss the old price tag though! :P

      • There is one at aces sports bar(top floor) in Sydney city, near china town and the markets area it's Malaysian / Thai

        Hopefully it's still there

can you recommend some good Thai restaurant in CBD?

Why you might have to tie thy shoes and slide thy thighs so don't be shy but pry by eye because my guy, no lie, the flyest Thai I've tried state-wide ain't nigh but in Newtown on King Street's side.

    • You can't go wrong with most of the places in Thaitown (around Campbell St, Sydney and up Pitt St a little).

Chat Thai is good, but there's usually a long queue any time of day/night.
Spice I am, Surry Hills Eating House and House Thai. All in a row on Elizabeth St, all the same owner. My pick is Surry Hills Eating house. It focuses on southern Thai that you don't get elsewhere. House Thai is North Eastern style, it's pretty spicy so only if you can handle it.

If you're looking for something a bit more 'mainstream', but still good quality, there's Green Peppercorn or Thanon Khaosan. There's something on the menu for everyone and the standard of food is good.

Thaitown has lots more places worth a go - Yok Yor and Siam House.

If you want to spend a little more and go to a world class chef, give David Thompson's new place a go - Long Chim.

There's plenty more not mentioned, some nice hole in the wall places off Campbell St on Pitt St. Just wander around Thaitown and you can't go wrong :)

I'd recommend Home in Sussex Street.

      • I like house too but that place is usually packed too

        • Home is not house in this case :)

        • @dione: lol just realized the mistype

  • chat thai? eat thai would have been a more fitting name

  • Chat Thai is the best thai place ever!

  • I prefer 'home' but this is also good. Also 50% off is nice. Good luck with the queues. Can aanyone recommend somewhere similar in MMelbourne
