That Tablet (A7) has some nasty nasty specs. Stay away..

    • +1

Anything making it unsuitable for a young child? Been thinking of getting one for my son.

      • +3

I use it as a good GPS navigator.

        • +3

Just looked up reviews and they seem to be quite favorable. Specs seem to be quite above what I'd expect for under $80

        • Hows the GPS work on it?

        • @ATangk:
This machine's GPS is excellent. I have 3 of them running igo.

      • How old is he?

        • 3
So mainly worried about slow or poor touch response or considerable load times for basic apps.

        • +14

@d1s34s3d: I can vouch for the 7 inch tablet from Lenovo bought from the good guys for $57 last week. Extremely zippy, runs every kids game I throw at it smoothly including Pokemon go. Memory management is really good on the software and always about 500 megs available on first boot. Only limitation is the poor camera and limited storage. 64 gb micro sd works perfectly and you can transfer apps to sd by default software, you may have to wait for about 30 seconds on first boot for the apps that are stored on SD to show up. Excellent tab and highly recommended for kinds.

        • @bamsegod: when I say kids game, I mean minions, Pokemon go, temple run, subway surfers, angry birds etc. Haven't tried asphalt, nova, mortal combat type games on it.

        • @bamsegod: so this lenovo tablet on this post, does it has better spec that yours?

        • @eisniwre: no the same specs. Bought it when there was 15% off Lenovo in store and used $25 voucher. Coming down to about $57. If you can use voucher on eBay it could be $52

        • -3

@bamsegod: It will NOT run Minions, Pokemon Go or Mortal Kombat very well for sure. Those games even struggle on the higher end phones let alone a low end tablet with bare minimal specs

        • +1

@d1s34s3d: for a 3 year old, probably does not matter. You'll probably use it more as a media device than a real tablet.

        • @bchliu:
He'll be using it for apps. Not media. He's clued on when it comes to them.
He prefers mortal kombat on ps4 over the tablet version so no worries there either.

        • @bamsegod:
Thank you for your personal feedback. Greally appreciated and has helped me to decide to give it a shot. Was going to go for an iPad but cost vs clumsiness had me a bit hesitant. At least at this price point I'll know how responsible he will be with his own.

        • +7

          @bchliu:it works fine. Proof.

@d1s34s3d: since you bought the tablet how about giving the deal a + vote?

        • +2

          @veritas_mendax:
Haven't done the purchase yet. Just made up my mind to get it from feedback here. I usually do + vote on deals. Just got caught up in the comments here and forgot to go do it. Thanks for reminder and all done now.

        • -1

@bamsegod: One thing to run it.. but another to run it above 10fps like on this tab. I suppose if you can accept that, then yeah.. I wont argue any further

        • @d1s34s3d: Er.. What is a 3 year old playing Mortal Kombat for? Dont expect to run the Android version of it on this in any smooth or playable way. BTW, this tab will probably only have 4GB or something left of internal storage and SD Cards doesnt really help in this situation as not every app is transferrable to SD. Mortal Kombat will probably take half of it in one hit.

        • +3

          @bchliu:
10fps? I just watched the video posted and minions runs extremely smooth from what I could see there. 10fps would be choppy and stuttery.

        • +4

          @bchliu:
It's a fun game and he learns about anatomy while playing.

        • @d1s34s3d: haha.. right.. anatomy.. just ignore the violence, son.. :)

        • +1

@d1s34s3d: from my experience the touch screen is poor. Pressure when touching has to be quite firm and more softer touches weren't recognised everytime. This was apparent on the store demo unit too so I chose to keep it.

        • @bamsegod:

How did you get it for $57?

        • @dejainc: I got it last week when they were running 15% off Lenovo. Combined with $25 voucher

        • @bamsegod:

Give it time… after 6 months mine is now as slow as my original nexus 7 and i only use it for in bed net surfing

        • @bchliu:

Hang on, why would kids be playing mortal kombat in the first place?!

        • @bamsegod: would it work as a basic media player? I currently have an ancient Pendo Pad hooked up via HDMI to TV, play files from a SD card… but I'm after something wiith a more recent Android version now.

        • +1

          @d1s34s3d:

          FINISH HIM!

        • @bamsegod: +1 for Pokemon Go. Got this a few days ago and Pokemon runs just fine on it where my Nexus 7 2013 could get stuttering (and now just flatout won't run it as it's being flagged as an "incompatible device").

        • @montorola: Yeah that's what I thought. The kid is three!

      • +1

They are fine…issue I had was the battery…didnt seem to last long on standby.

        • I'll make sure I keep it on charge for him. Thanks for feedback.

      • +2

Its great for kids. I watch netflix on mine and the battery life is quite decent. I'm happy with the speed it runs also. In comparison to my LG G$ which is 5x the cost. It does not run 5x as fast so….great deal.

      • I'm using the 10" one right now. It's excellent, but Officeworks has it for $217. I'd avoid the 7" though.

        • The one at Officeworks is different model, this one at Good Guys has more ram, higher res screen, 32gb memory.

      • I've bought 3 for my kids, the screen res is pretty average, but for a "kids tablet" they are fine. They play all the games they want, Pokemon, Clash of Clans fine. Are they "good" tablets, not really, but are they good tablets for $80, the definitely!

      • +1

I think any tablet is unsuitable for a young child

    • +4

Going to disagree on this. The specs are fine for the price. I have one and use it purely for travel. Great for watching movies on my cheap Ozbargained Jetstar flights, doing a bit of browsing and playing he odd game. And at $77, there's no worries about it getting broken or stolen.

Just don't expect it to be an iPad Pro.

  • +2

Great price on that 65" LG TV but be wary of this - https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/2543440

  • was looking at tab 3 a10 premium but doesn't have HDMI :(

    The Acer 14" is tempting

    • 2.2 kg for a 14" laptop - still using lead-acid batteries?

      • Yeah is not great, but for the price is not too bad

    • Touchscreen too it seems

    • I had a look at it in store today. It was pretty snappy. The touchscreen seemed fairly responsive too. I picked it up and it didn't feel overly heavy to me. I'm used to lugging around a fair amount of stuff, so I'm probably a bit more tolerant of the mass.

The biggest letdown was the screen image. It's not god awful but it was dull. I didn't mess with it to see if the contrast could be improved. The store was not overly bright so I doubt that had an effect. I'd summarise it as adequate and in line with the money you are paying.

If the primary purpose was to use it for office applications, I think it's a brilliant buy. Had I not bought the Lenovo Miix 700 through the recent Futu deal, I'd have bought one of these.

      • I picked one up today, will try it out later lol

        • What's the OS Windows 10 or Windows 8?

        • @blackfox:

          Windows 10 home

        • @Blackrose: Thanks for the quick reply , guy from the store said it comes with windows 8.

  • How would the 10" tab 3 compare with an Nvidia shield k1 ?

    • Hard to say at a glance. The Tab 3 has the same resolution screen (1920x1200) as the 8" Shield. The Lenovo has a newer model CPU which should be better all round performner than the k1's CPU. However, Nvidia chips generally have superior graphics performance. If you are concerned about games, try to find some benchmarks which you can use to compare.

These low end Android tablets make a pretty brilliant substitute for an ipod/media player if you don't mind the bulk and 32gb SD card limit. I picked up an Asus one for $30 in the DSE closedown clearance, installed Poweramp and mounted it in an empty space on my car's centre console. That's a super low cost in-car media upgrade.

    • Works fine for the kids, and has GPS which others don't and acceptable screen res.
The only problem really is just 8GB of "SSD."

  • Will the pod holders hold Nespresso pods?

    • probably not the lavazza is more flat, you can try though

  • Anyone find any cheap rugged cases for the Lenovo tab3 a7-10?

  • Bought the Lenovo 10" as my Nexus 9 died sadly :(

    • Let us know how it is :)

      • +4

        Probably still dead…

      • ordered it and while waiting for delivery my nexus 9 came back to life… gaah!
was nearly about to bin the nexus and thought, will charge it one last time overnight and try again.

quite impressed with the lenovo. stock android. 3-4 "system apps" installed however a couple of these could be uninstalled like normal. a couple of others cannot.

speakers are decent too, thought still not as good as front speakers like the nexus.

used it for youtube & web so far.

thinking now might sell the nexus 7 2013 i have and keep the lenovo + nexus 9 for the wife & I

Eveready Super Heavy Duty AA 20Pk

AKA toxic landfill - DO NOT BUY.

    • just dispose of them responsibly, like you should with any battery?

      • Yes, but any decent (ie. NOT super heavy duty) battery lasts more than 5 minutes…

  • Why is this deal now showing the Lenovo Tab 3 A10 Premium 10.1" 32GB as $279.20? 20% off 399 is $319.20.

    Am I missing something?

    • The price went up $50 since OP. It was $349.

      • I'm sure I read this post a couple of days back with the $319 price

    • +1

Price went up this morning :(

  • TRENT86 - I'm hanging out to see if there will be another 20% discount tomorrow. Don't leave us hanging !!

    • Doesn't look like it just some crappy bonus voucher with spend :(
