The LIFX bulbs have been on sale for more than a week now and there's an additional $5 off your purchase if you use the above code. There was quite an interest on it when it was last posted a week ago (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/269153). I have a few of them around the house and I use them with my Amazon Echo. For you guys who are into building a Smart Home IoT might be interested with this other post on the Echo Dot too (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/270820).

Edit 8pm: Minimum spend of $39.98 has been added, see here.

    • No these units do not unless you do some fancy hack work

      • Do you know much about how you can do it?
What bulbs are supported for HomeKit?

Yo! Can you please add Complications support for Apple Waych? :)

        • +1

that will be absolutely awesome. Heyi bad cop, you there?

    • No, but they can be made to by running a HomeBridge server. I run mine on a Raspberry Pi.

  • Can the white 800 be used in a recessed light fitting in the ceiling? I'm asking heat wise. It's a shame that code can't be used for 1 bulb anymore. I was about to buy to try it out.

    • They don't get anywhere near as hot as incandescent bulbs from the what I read.

  • Arggh, bought 6 with one code. Could have got another $10-20 off if I did the dodgy 3-6 emails trick.

  • I have wanted to try one and now that they have changed the deal (thanks to the abusing the deal above), I will have to buy two.

  • I bought 4 using the email trick :D

  • I just bought 4 in 2 separate transactions! Thanks OP.

I got original ones from the last deal, I brought 5 and one of them broke. Initially that single light bulb kept on disconnecting from my Wi-Fi router, then it reached the point where it doesn't even want to connect to my router. It was a dumb LED light bulb by that point, I didn't mind the hassle of manually turning on one of the light bulbs. But then it started doing that stupid orange and red flashing after a few minutes, literally couldn't even use it anymore, even as a dumb LED. I contacted LIFX support and they are amazingly good, they sent a replacement lightbulb after getting a few details, only took about 1 week including shipping time for the replacement. They gave me the new Color 1000 version, which is a nice small upgrade, it's a lot smaller and uses about 11W vs 17W of the original, plus it is slightly brighter by 50 lumens.

Overall, LIFX has an excellent support team and their products are great to use. You get 2 years of warranty, and a hassle free replacement. I couldn't recommend them enough!

  • Thanks OP – I bought 2!

One question: Are any of the LIVX globes compatible with downlights that are mounted on my ceiling? (I think they are 12 volt halogen as per this website: http://www.energymakeovers.com.au/can-i-have-free-lights/)

My observations are that the LIVX gloves wouldn’t fit due to size, but I’m only guessing here…

    • I think I have answered my own question: LIFX has discontinued their downlight range.

There was some mention (possibly in the last sale) that they are working on a new downlight model, fingers crossed for the next few months

I just spent $200 on lightbulbs. may god have mercy on my soul

    • I now have about 20 of these things (mix of colour and white). Don't want to know what I've spent on them!

      • Is it worth it being decked out in that many smart bulbs? just spent another $120. This is like my discretionary fun money for the next month, on lightbulbs :S I had to get another color E27 because I remembered I have an Ikea lamp that takes it. I also got some B22 to E17 adapters so I can use my B22 LIFX bulbs in my smaller Ikea lamps. I could have bought an Xbone or a big bag of fun times for this kind of money, ha.

I love that they're dimmable, and can work on a timer. My front porch light turns on with sunset and off at pre-set time. My kids' lights go down at bed-time and I can slowly turn them on in mornings to wake them up gently if required.

Honestly, I could have bought more of the Whites instead of the colour ones and saved some $. The colour is pretty cool though.

It pushed me to try out home automation, and I've now got a Smart hub (Vera), bunch of z-wave devices, LIF-X bulbs, and an Amazon Echo dot on order.

It really is the ($$) future.

  • Oh no!! I waited too long and missed on the no minimum. Wanted to try with one before I commit to more.

I would still suggest going for them. I placed an order for 2 white ones over a week ago with the existing price drop. Bulbs arrived in the mail yesterday and I am impressed so far. They may be costly for being just light bulbs but once they are setup you can use your phone (not only on your home wifi, but using any wifi/data) to turn them on and off, which makes the price really good.

      • Hmmm, maybe I will.

Can anyone confirm if the A19s will work well in a recessed ceiling fixture (not fully enclosed)? Will the light spread be good? The BR30s are a tad bit mroe expensive.

  • how bright are they at their brightest? Equivalent to a 100W or 60W?

I've noticed that that from the pictures looks like all the LED's are downward facing. However, some of my lights have setups where the bulb is inserted parallel to the surface (such as a wall, my ceiling lamps). Has anyone installed the bulb this way (parallel to the wall)? I'm assuming it's not as bright since it seems to be directional?

To be specific, I have a 'hideaway' fan that takes 3 globes. I've only been using 1 globe on it all this while, as 3 are too bright, and the bulb is installed parallel to the surface to allow a 'flatter' cover to go on.

    • The LIFX White globes are 800 lumens, which should be similar to a 60 Watt incandescent bulb.

The whole top section of the globe illuminates, so light should emit outwards (although I haven't seen one in action yet).

      • Thanks. If any lifx owners could confirm what illuminates that would be great, i.e., just the flat surface, or the entire puck after the groove, thus including somesideways illumination too.

        • The entire puck.

        • @gerryg: Great. Thanks!

When are they posting the bulbs? didnt get any shipping notifications

    • +1

If you bought E26 or B22 type bulbs then you should've received a shipping confirmation email a day or two ago.

However, on their product page it has this notice:

"Stock Delay: Please note E27 Screw for AU and NZ orders is currently in transit and will ship out the first week of November."

    • I got mine delivered today (B22), loving'em :)

  • My globes just arrived. Very impressed. I will be kitting my home out with the downlights when they become available.

  • got 2x colour globes.

1x white (before the restriction) has not been shipped. ordered 20th, it is now 5th november.

    • Im waiting for 3 whites too. I emailed them last Monday and they said the lights are waiting to clear at a port in Sydney. They asked me to email them again if i dont get any shipping info by Tuesday next week.

    • Contacted LIFX today. Apparently stock has now cleared customs in Sydney and should ship out by the end of the week.

      • Contacted lifx yesterday about shipping and they happily upgraded me to colour 1000 with express shipping

        • Can you please share contact details?

        • dammit i should've done this. too late now cos it's shipped.

  • I bought a colour 1000 globe from LifX. Connected it to my wifi. Connects successfully for 3 minutes then drops off the network continuously. Tried everything can't seem to get it to connect longer than three minutes at a time. Any ideas?

    • i got asked a number of times to update my firmware and the ios app. keep doing that and it eventually worked itself out.

  • Finally received my white globes. I have a lamp that accepts E17 connector, presume it's not an issue to use an E17 to E27 adapter?
