Trying to workout if this would outweigh the cost of buying a Pixel

Editing your build.prop to match the Pixel will probably work. Just as it allows access to Google Assistant.

Edit: Tried it, got offered 3 months trial because of "Optus Perks", so can't really confirm.

  • Which Pixel?
I would rather buy a galaxy note 3 and 30 years of onedrive+office 360 and enjoying no backup of any photos and videos online than $2000 Pixel!

    • well Microsoft has just downgraded my onedrive 128GB for life (previously promised) to 5GB capacity … so be careful guys just like i did copy my every file and photos and videos of my family and now I am re- download them to my computer, as they have given me extended time to have them offloaded or else they will delete the files, these big corporations can clearly violate what they agree to, citing their T&Cs which is also in their favor whenever they want to change, so buying in pixel and thinking you will get unlimited storage, yeah sure why not once pixel sales rockets google gets money rolling who cares about your unlimited storage.. just watch out Microsoft made me sell their product to jump on to 128GB and now downsizing me to 5GB shows no care for the product they sold, or they tryna tell if u can do anything about it….

      • did they contact you? i didnt get any notification

        • yes and downgraded to make way for paid users

    • The most expensive version is $1419.

This comes with Nexus phones too

  • Got myself a Pixel XL and wife took it…………………………………………..
But I am happy as she was the last one to stick to iPhone and Pixel XL has sealed the deal and she gave up on her iPhone….

I am sad too that I dont have it with me but I am happy with my S7 Edge.

And your walnuts in her purse.

  • If Google really wanted to "reward" Pixel owners, why not offer a 6-12 month freebie?

    • +1

      Because they're not a charity?

  • +2

Isn't a the free Google Music trial subscription standard? The "Unlimited Online Backups for Photos and Videos Taken with Your New Pixel" shouldn't really be a deal. It's a selling feature of the Pixel.

    • Yep not really a bargain as this has always been standard.
Also if you've redeemed Google Music via free trial before, you will be ineligible for the the Google Music promotion.

Apparently, Google are saying the Pixel are so popular that stock has sold out, nice marketing.
This deal show that they're desperate for people to buy this phone at that premium price.

Okay, I'm not a Pixel fan by any stretch of the imagination but…Nexus phones have pretty much always sold out as well, this isn't new for Google. And this "deal" has always been the case for the Pixel phones, it's standard. Same thing with the Play Music subscription, I got that with my Nexus.

This isn't a deal at all, and as such, really shouldn't say anything about the popularity of the Pixel.

    • If only there was another phone company that deliberately shorted their stock a day or so after release as their big marketing idea to get that magic panic buying started… this other company also has a habit of sueing companies that take "their" ideas. Google might want to watch out using the "shorted stock" route…

And I don't think Google are desperate. Other phone makers offer similar things with the release of their new smart phones. The Nexus range has always sold pretty well, so I don't think the Pixel will be "desperate" for sales.

And I agree with some others here, this isn't really a deal clincher. If I was on the fence, this "offer" wouldn't be the icing on the cake. It's a nice addition, but hardly deal worthy.
