The new 13" Macbook Pro have similar performances with the Surface Pro or Book without dGPU. The only differences is it uses Iris Pro instead of Intel HD 520. But yeah unless you are going to use the Pen. I Wouldn't recommend the Surface Pro 4 or Book. You can get better deals with other manufacturer.

It all depends on your use case. Will you mainly be using it on the go or docked to a desk with a monitor? Will you be using it on your lap a lot?

The SP4 and SB were released over 1 year ago. Rumours suggest the new SP5 will be released in early 2017. Might be good to wait if you can.

12.6"(2880x1920) vs 12.3"(2736x1824) in SP4.
Cheapest price on staticice is $1599. Keyboard might be included.
At the top end it costs $679 to increase the SSD by half a TB. Crazy.
