      • Ah sweet! Any tips on searching for deals?

        • +2

  • What job do you have where you can travel so readily!

Didn't think…. Just bought $215 Melbourne to Beijing for next september… surely is will get cancelled

    • why cancellation?

      • It is just way too cheap

        • Did you get to choose seats yet?

        • @bargainist: I got to choose seats at payment screen. Selected seats but they didn't appear on itinerary.

Money has been deducted and I've got a confirmation # though! Am a little bit in the camp of others… I can't see this being honoured…

  • Thanks OP. Booked direct on Virgin website for July

  • +1

Just booked Sydney to Beijing and Shanghai to Sydney for 2 people for 545 return. Thanks OP you the real MVP

  • -2

Virgin and Singapore will not be able to honour this

    • Why not? I got an e-ticket number. (Booked through Bestjet)

  • Booked per to Beijing early may. 286 return. Insane price. Certainly not booking hotel accom yet given that it'll probably be cancelled but hope not!

  • +1

The only problem is, the tickets are so cheap, I don't qualify for free travel insurance with my credit card lol. Any tricks to "spend" another $200 on "prepaid travel expenses" without actually spending?

    • +1

Buy another ticket for extra space

      • +2

and take a crap load of baby formula with you.

    • The accommodation you book counts towards prepaid travel expenses…unless u were intending to stay with family/friends

  • +1

Speaking in hypotheticals. Could I just stay over in Singapore, and miss the flight to Beijing?

    • they might cancel your return leg. Not 100% sure though. a few people have made this comment in the past.

if you check in luggage then that causes a problem because it may very well "go through". so carry on only.

    • When I trained to be a travel agent many years ago I was told that if someone no shows for their flight, it cancels the test of their itinerary.

This may have changed but check the fare rules, lots of info but it's all there

    • cancels rest of itinerary if you no show for any flight.
happened to me when i went to chile - difference was i didnt mean to miss my flight :( lol

    • All full serviced airlines will cancel your remaining itinerary if you miss any flight in ur itinerary.

    • Depends on the airline, whether you're traveling domestic / international and also if it's seen as a loss leader. Worked at Virgin before and we would allow people to miss a domestic outbound flight, but still keep their returning flight.

International flights were more difficult because we were usually booking interline or codeshare with another airline, but if a passenger called ahead and said "I'll miss my Brisbane to LA flight due to xx, but I'll be able to take the rest of my flights" we could often put in open segment (they wouldn't get any refund for that part of course).

At the end of the day, if you wanted to give it a shot, you would DEFINITELY want to not take checked baggage, only carry on.

    • Just for future reference - some bookings actually charge a 'no-show' fee. I've seen one for $300 in the T&C's of tickets I've booked in the past. Can't remember the details but it's just something to keep in mind and look out for when considering doing something like this.

  • is here anyway to arrange stopover in sg?

  • +2

    This isn't expired.
Just booked two seats SYD-PEK in Sep 17 for $280rt.

Thanks Altomic. Not sure how you get the leave to do the travel you do!

Thanks OP - managed to sneak in a direct booking with Virgin for a quick trip from Sydney to Beijing at the end of September.

    • No flights available showing on the Virgin website Melbourne to Beijing in August or Sep :(

      • Booked around 08.30 this morning, seems they've now removed the flights from the website.

  • +1

Just booked 2 seats BRI-PEK for a week in sep. ~$275 each return.

  • I have tried to book Brisbane to Peking or Shanghai. Called Expedia and there is no way you can stopover in Singapore. Unless you buy two sets of expansive tickets. BNE-SIN & SIN-PEK VV.

  • Just booked MEL-PEK in May next year for $268. Crazy price! You are the legend altomic.

  • Any example dates for $225? Could only seem to find them for $276+.

    • yes - click the link in the 6th line in the description .

      • Doesn't work.

Price averages as $225 using your link because you have 1 adult and 3 child tickets (which price at 75% full fare). Regular adult ticket price is $275. See? :).

Use the above link, keep the same dates but remove the kids if you'd like to confirm.

        • kids, of course partial fare. sorry

  • -1

NO stopover in Singapore. Kindly change the heading!!!

    • ? The results are all showing stops in Singapore.

  • Are people getting the Expedia insurance? Or if it is a price error will they just straight refund? Almost ready to take the plunge

  • hey OP - how much is your japan trip in Jun? which airline?
Also do you know when it's the best time to go to beijing re. air quality?

    Thanks

    • Japan was through Jetstar. 1 dault + 3 kids ~$1300 return. from this jetstar deal in August

air quality in beijing. no idea. I'm just winging it.

      • thanks mate i missed the aug jetstar deal….oh well…
beijing air quality is a real concern, just google it…apparently depends on which month you go there…especially if you have kids…better get some masks

  • Going domestic destinations are more expensive

  • It keeps changing the price to over $1000 when I go to pay?

    • the flights you requested have probably been 'fixed'

      • bugger. I wasted over an hr trying.

        • try different dates, something close to what you was thinking of doing originally.

  • +1

Also Guangzhou is cheap. $282 confirmed return from Sydney!!

  • Try to book to Seoul and redirect to STA Travel, anyone have any experience with this agent? Are they reliable? Quick Google turns out mixed results, and bad service if need help. Tickets sold out at virgin website but STA seem to have few tickets left, is this a scam?

    • STA is a fairly large/long standing agent. I'd have no hesitation dealing with them. I last used them in 1999 with no problems.

Them having a tickets wouldnt be a scam.

      • Thanks, have booked thru expedia for the same price, will consider STA next time.

    • STA has many physical offices across Australia. They are good. You'll be protected by Australian consumer law.

  • It seems offer just expired as I was making the payment..

  • So, apparently all these cheap Virgin flights are due to pricing errors (they forgot to add the fuel surcharge). Hope they don't start cancelling our bookings…

  • got this before i could pay QQ

    Price Change
Your ticket price changed from AU$655.08 to AU$2,095.48. The airline could not confirm the original price due to pricing or availability changes that occurred after we posted the latest prices on our site. Continue booking or look for a different flight.

    • Spewing.

Apparently if you booked a Virgin flight on these crazy deals, they might honour it!

  • Checked the price this morning, opened the payment page and went for lunch.
When I came back to finish the payment, the deal was gone.
