[EXPIRED] University of Queensland/iTunes - 50 Song Free SAMPLER

723

mod - confirming the page is gone now

Apple are giving away 50 free songs! Ends 30/6
To celebrate UQ's great new iTunes Site http://www.uq.edu.au/itunes/ . Apple are making available to UQ staff and students 50 free songs! UQ iTunes U allows the world to access audio and video podcast content from The University of Queensland. Be quick, as Appleā€™s free song offer runs out at the end of June, visit http://www.apple.com/au/education/itunes-u/50freesongs/uq/ to access the offer.

I have just tried it, did not ask for UQ student/staff ID, so it seems work for everyone put your name/email there.

Edit: please note you can not choose those 50 songs, which seems to be fixed or randomly sampled.

Edited - JeffreyM: Edited title to make it more clearer that it's a 50 song sampler and not a 50 song voucher

sounds like a great way to abuse gmail plus addressing….

    • Whats that?

      • +6

You can add a +whatever after your gmail mailbox name, so you can then filter emails sent to that address without your original address being spammed.
        e.g.
        [email protected]

you can sign up with for example:

        [email protected]

so it will still get delivered to [email protected]

but because it has a +applepromotion on the end, you can filter it out later if you don't want to receive those emails anymore.

        • +1

          Thanks, just googled it lol
          Pretty smart actually =D

          • +1

@cwongtech: it also means you can use multiple email addresses for simple competitions that only accept one entry per email address..

        • thanks, great to know

    • +11

Where did it imply you /could/ chose them? When do places ever give out 50 free tracks you can select yourself? Good or not, free is free.

      • -6

I thought it was any 50 itunes tracks free aswell.

        • +2

          Well you thought wrong.
Read, and don't vote neg because you don't like it.
A freebie is a bargain, why would you neg a freebie cause it doesn't suit your needs?

    • +6

Why do you say the songs are bad? Have you listened to them all? Or is there not enough room on your iPod 'cause of all the Hannah Montana rockers?

  • -4

    random songs, lame. apple, lame.

  • +5

Crap songs…but I still voted the deal up because…well, it does what it say's on the box!

    • +4

I might not like them you might not like them but someone might and they are free

  • +28

Oh, ok, it is getting more and more scary to put up deals here. People are getting more picky…

    • +8

      Indeed.

I reckon there should be a troll rating system. You can choose your troll sensitivity so you can completely ignore comments from regular trolls.

    • +2

      Dude don't worry about them.
      Kids are picky.
Free is free, if its open for public to be usable then I say it shouldn't be neg'd.
Just because the deal doesn't offer what someone's personal taste is, doesn't mean it should be negged.

    • I totally agree.

For that reason when I got an Gen 3 32 GB Touch for $341, I posted in the forum saying if that was a good price.

Buy the time someone got interested the deal was gone.

I don't mind any negative votes. But what puts me off are some of the scathing comments made at the poster, forget the post. OB is really big now and with size comes some of its issues.

You can't police everything. We should excercise restrain in providing our comments. Example, instead of saying you can't read, or for those lazy people who can't google, etc. These comments don't add to your comments. Please!

I guess we all have to understand that these songs are probably good for the Uni students who like the alternative trendy music…I recognised two artists

  • +7

Note that this is for a "sampler" (basically 50 songs which have been chosen for you). It's not a 50 song credit

    • Yes it should definitely say sampler in the title. In my mind the association with Apple iTunes implies that you would get 50 free iTunes songs. So I for one am I'm glad I saw the negs before I bothered getting too excited.

Of cource, I will remove my neg one it says sampler or something to that effect in the title.

      • l2spell?
        "Of cource"?

        Edit:
How is it a sample? A sample is like parts of a song, this is 50 free songs, from Apple, sure they're random but they aren't SAMPLES.

        • -2

Try reading and/or thinking before you post, troll.
I wrote "sampler or something to that effect".
Or was my grammar/spelling/typing/proofreading not up to your high standard?

      • +1

I don't think it implies you would get to choose at all. Apple have for a long time offered weekly free songs which you never got to choose…not sure why people assumed they'd let you choose this time.

  • 50 songs as vicsta said already chosen…you might find 2 or 3 that you recognise/like. still pretty good. just follow link enter details and it will begin downloading.

  • +3

Voting positive only to counter balance the knobs voting negative because they thought Apple was giving away $80 of iTunes credit (ie 50 songs of their choosing) to every single person. Keep dreaming.

  • +1

I suggest listening to the songs before all the neg'n' - no misleading title, good deal, free - great find Saturday

  • +2

    Can't complain.

I mean, I could tell it was a sampler just by looking at the mini screenshot of the webpage.

That, and Apple aren't overly generous.

  • +2

Listening to them now - some of 'em are pretty good.

Look everybody - the only way you're going to hear new, exciting music (you know, the stuff that sends a shiver up your spine) - is if you give it a chance and at least listen to it.

Every band/singer is unknown at the beginning

  • +1

Look at these Apple fanboys negging anyone that speaks out against their precious brand…

    • +1

what does the apple brand have to do with artists making music and getting a chance to be heard?

  • +3

For people who don't want to sign up.

    support.apple.com.au/Blackbelt/itunesu/fmpro?-db=itunesucode&-lay=web&-format=fini.html&refid=ITU011969&-find

Change the last numbers of the refid, this bit "refid=ITU011969", and get a new code like that.

    For e.g.

    support.apple.com.au/Blackbelt/itunesu/fmpro?-db=itunesucode&-lay=web&-format=fini.html&refid=ITU011990&-find

    It does work.

    • Doesn't work anymore, but it worked last night for me.

    • "Agreed misleading title makes u think you can choose any 50 titles. Free crap is STILL CRAP!!!" - misleading title got changed, are you blind or something!?

"Also I refuse to give my credit card number out to a company just to get some free CRAP" - Dude, what are you smoking? I gave you a link to even not need to register, and they only ask you for your name, and your email, when was CC req'd?

      • He's probably talking about the Itunes account. It asks you for a CC to charge any purchases to. But its a simple drop down box to select the "Free" Itunes account which doesnt ask for a CC.

        • Well for his blindness he goes and negs it?

  • Sorry to be pedantic, but isn't the grammar in "so is 50 free songs" incorrect? I would 50 free songs ARE cool…

  • +2

I actually agree with what has been SAID by some of the negative voters, but I don't think this 'bargain' warrants a negative. As it has already been pointed out, this is free so it's not bad, but the music may not be of our preference. It should still appeal to some people though, therefore I think this warrants a neutral vote (if there was one, so it gets a no vote from me).

I also agree that the previous title was a bit misleading. The association with iTunes and '50 free songs' DOES sound like you can pick whatever song you like. This new title is better.

  • Personally, even if I don't need all the 50 tracks. This is first time 50 tracks free has been posted. This is better than Subway tracks offer.

So it is a positive vote for me.

With quality of the tracks, or you are not going to listen etc, on that I agree on some of the comments, if it is deal for you vote +

I wonder how can you vote - on a freebie unless you suspect spam

  • +1

What is wrong with people these days, its a free deal, surely you can't vote negative just because you might not like the music, everyone is just way too negative

  • To be honest, those songs are not bad and i am listening to them now. And at least i got 50 cool artworks from these 50 song download, which fills the blanks in my iTunes screen saver and can not wait to see how they look like in the screen saver:-)

Anyone got a list? I can't stand itunes and wouldnt be bothered installing it unless there's something worthwhile. I'm into indie or underground acts and they're usually the ones people rubbish in forums/threads so it might be worth checking out!

  • This has been stopped now due to it becoming public

    • +1

      My method still does work!
Trial and error, I'm sure you'll get a working code lol

      • Yes it works, first attempt for me worked. Thanks. :)

  • They've taken it down now, had to wait till i got home from work…

  • my uni doing some marketing :P

ohhhh… they've removed it on my.UQ as well :P hope they put it back for legit students like me haha LOL :D

  • download works fine.
download itunes, then fill out all those pesky personal questions, like D.O.B. name, address, email, etc.

  • For some reason I only got 40 songs? Heh, free songs all the same (thanks to cwongtech for your method)

Btw, it crossed my mind afterwards that I if I use this method, wouldn't it be someone else's free code I have redeemed?

edit: they are AAC protected files too, not DRM free MP3s.

  • +1

I can confirm that cwongtech's method still works. I've uploaded a screenshot of the 50 tunes I received for anyone who is interested in seeing what is available prior to trying this method:

    http://yfrog.com/2d50freeitunesp

  • Doesn't seem available now. Deal expired early? (links above don't work either - No code available)
