Best Bargain of the Decade?

In the theme of ozbargain turning 10, i was wondering what the best bargain of the decade was?

The best one i can remember was a router which, after all the cashbacks, actually MADE you money. At that time i was annoyed that i missed out on it, especially because i actually needed a new router at that time.

So what was THE best bargain out of Ozbargain?

  • Eneloops.

    • Most popular, but not the best bargain/value, especially given Coles Recharge+ and Ikea Ladda (cannot recall which specific type) are comparable.

As per this post, I personally would have to say this deal

$180 all up, got us return flights Per-Melb, and 2 nights accom

Whilst not giving us a profit, it was 1 hellova score. Easily found the first 6 bottles of wine, didn't find the 2nd till a nice member on here gave me a heads up on a store with labelled bottles.

Proposed to the Mrs on that holiday (in front of my 1yo daughter too lol) :) (and no, she had no, and still has no bad feelings about it being done on a cheap holiday. The cost of getting there had no bearing on the fact that we were there!)

she had no, and still has no bad feelings about it being done on a cheap holiday

And that is how you know she's the one

One of my best bargains was a 28cm Le Creuset round casserole dish for $100 delivered from Amazon UK. They sell for $450-$650 in Australia.

I bought a pair of prescription Ray Bans earlier this year which ended up making me money after health fund rebate, discount and cashback.

My most recent bargain was a new bbq gas bottle with refill for ~$10 (usually around $55). I got $30 in vouchers from the BCF fishing game and then used them at their 20% off everything (including gas refills) members night.

    /end thread.

  • Still pretty jazzed about my flights for a family of 4 (2A 2C) Brisbane to London return for $2818 with Singapore/Virgin. When I looked them up the next day the exact same flights were $4.5K dearer.

  • Also the Thai Airways pricing error of forgetting to include surcharges which allowed me to have a nice jaunt in Chiang Mai. To their credit, they honoured the purchase.

It's hard to pick a clear winner. Up there for me are:

    • The scalable free food and beverage deals — pizzas, burgers, burritos, bars, beers, etc.
    • The discounted gift card deals — Woolworths or Big W.
    • Profitable deals — Cash bonuses for bank accounts and credit cards, or discounted cash back deals.
  • For me it was:

    • Big W giftception.
    • $112 BNE-DPS return with Jetstar. Cheapest Bali trip ever!!!
  • For me $4 canon printer and got $20 store credit drom The Good Guys

  • For me its a mix up between:

    • Getting $100 off a $125 Bondi Pizza order
    • Getting $95 worth of free Good Guys credit

    • I brogan-ed some free tickets to an event and sold them, made $300

  • That Sony charger that JB mis priced at $30 when it was really $130 and they honoured it.

  • +1 to the OP.
I'm still using that -$15 DLINK router flashed to Tomato Firmware.

I did a Click and Collect to pick up later that day and the guy who served me at the DSE counter said to me "Wow, these are really popular today", my response was "well, it is a really good price".

  • $20 Staples vouchers with no minimum spend and delivery for $7 or so, 2 accounts, 3 codes… good times 🙏🏻

    • still got a few boxes of printer paper left from this deal lol

  • Merged from 10 Years: What Was Your Best Deal Ever?

In these ten years, certain deals must stand out.
Deals that did not just encourage you to buy junk you never used, but saved hundreds of dollars on things you really wanted.
And ever better, deals that made you do something great you would not otherwise have done.

I'll start with the Mystery Flight & Overnight Stay from 4 years ago.
$90/head for a transcontinental return flight and accommodation for those of us in Perth. With bonus 6-pack of wine :-)

    What else?

$149 Return flight Sydney to Manila when Cebu Pacific first started flying. I had a row to myself both ways so was able to lift the armrests and lay down entirely to sleep.

Lasted me a couple of years before I finally upgraded.

  • Coke rewards clearing expiring ticketek vouchers. 10 tokes (1bottle) for $20 voucher. Max 5X$20 per account.
