  • Damn great price on the K8500 4K player. Retails around $600 at most big retailers, often sells around $450 at discounted sellers like VideoPro.
I paid around $380 via Good Guys 20% off sale a month ago.
It's a little glitchy but lot cheaper than the Panasonic which was only other option at the time.

    • does it do bitstream audio?

      • +3

why not just a xbox one s?

        • How does this player compare to Xbox one s in terms of quality? Xbox can play games as well, so seem to make more sense.

        • +1

@stargalaxy: JB store guy told me Xbox One S gets a lot of complaints about the player quality. Could have just been trying to upsell though.

edit: Found this review that says it doesn't compare to the Samsung and Panasonic players: http://www.whathifi.com/news/no-xbox-one-s-isnt-very-good-4k…

        • @enceladus94: I have a 4K TV Samsung KS8000, have netflix and NBN and XBox One, not sure what I should get to take full advantage of the TV, whether upgrade to Xobox One S or get the Samsung 4K player. Or Do I need any at all??

        • +1

@stargalaxy: Depends really on how much of an enthusiast you are. A dedicated player will be better quality, but for the average person the Xbox One S player is acceptable. Streaming services are also at a lower bitrate than 4K Bluray, so if you want the best picture you'll want physical media.

        • @enceladus94: I think currently Netflix stream pretty good quality movies, youtube have been pretty average while FTA is better than my old TV especially HD channel and sports. I just wonders how to get the HDR quality that this TV is capable of.

        • @stargalaxy: I think the Netflix streaming is pretty good too, but I find that the surround sound doesn't compare to physical blurays.

        • @stargalaxy: with that TV i would be upgrading to a xbox one s if you have a xbox allready

      • Of course - any dedicated Bluray player should always have this. The XBoxOneS lacks this.
I needed bitstream for Dolby Atmos overhead sound.

  • Has anyone got the LG 55UH615T 55" UHD ($897.20)?

Might actually go for it since JB Hi-Fi has it for $1498 and Harvey Norman for $1495

EDIT: My bad, just realised it's a different model LG 55UH652T

LG's WebOS is a woeful interface, I strongly recommend you try one on display before purchasing!

  • Good work OP.

Is the Xbox one S UHD BD player as good as the Samsung? Ignoring the bitstream audio.

    • +1

Pretty much, and the Xbox One has apparently been promised bitstream in a future update.

I really see no reason to buy a dedicated player when a game console does it all.

      • ok thanks I will skip the samsung 4k player then as I will be getting the xbox one S.

        • Same here, I'm waiting for Xbox Scorpio but that's a year away.

If the Xbox One had native 4K game support I'd buy it.

        • Been reading some reviews after seeing this deal and it seems dedicated players are better quality, but the Xbox One S player is still acceptable.

So it comes down to how much quality matters to you.

  • Does this code work on other stuff? Like the UE Mega Boom? http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NEW-Ultimate-Ears-UE-Megaboom-Bla…

Dude, it literally says the code underneath the listing of the link you just posted!

      • Blind as a bat! thanks mate

How does the LG 55" tv compare to the recent Samsung 55" deal or the Panasonic 55" in this deal?

    • +1

I looked at Panasonic and LG, albeit different model last TGG sales (50" DX700 and 55" UHT652 - I think they're essentially the same TV as the one you're looking at, with slight difference, like HDR - which don't do much at the entry level anyway). I took the Panny because I like the pic better than the LG and it was $150 cheaper back then), but the remote was downright awful. Miles below the LG magic remote (I personally found that's the only usable remote for smart TV).
This LG doesn't seems to come with magic remote though (it said sold separately), but it's $100 cheaper than the Panny. I'd probably go with this one (well, if you really want the magic remote, can always buy one from ebay later).

  • I've been wanting this TV for a while Sony KDL65W850C 65" FHD SMART LED TV

Is this price point good? I just don't see myself watching any UHD content in the next few years and will be happy to upgrade to something at a more competitive price later on.

I'm a bit of a SONY fanboy and like the idea having google play so i can run a VPN and get Netflix/Hulu ect.

    • Is this price point good?

      Yes, it's a good price.

The cheapest I've seen it for is usually a few hundred more, so if this does everything you need then I'd grab it.

Great price for the UE Boom 2, we've been after one for a while.

    • Ditto, picked up one for my sister for Christmas. Wish I was picking one up for myself :(

    Thanks Trent, love your work.

    • I agree Kleetus. Trent gets my vote for Mr OzB 2016. Consistent effort and informative posts.

I wish they'd slightly increase their prices so that I didn't have to know I was paying for postage :(

  • Ugh, pickup only. Get with the times Bing Lee.

  • Plus 1 for the crazy price on the Sammy UHD player

  • Is the UE Boom 2 worth the money?

    • My house mate has a Boom 1 - it is great, good build quality, sounds good, goes pretty loud without sounding crap. Boom 2 is better. He paid $180 for the Boom 1. I just bought one for me @ $136 delivered.

      EDIT: http://www.imore.com/ue-boom-2-vs-ue-boom-1-whats-difference

      • thanks mate! im gonna buy one

  • +1

Thanks Trent bought UE Boom 2

  • Only orange and red left for the UE Boom 2. =\

  • +1

Are there any good alternatives to the UE Boom 2? I've never had much luck with their battery life claims in other products (Mini Boom and Mega Boom), but do like the rugged enclosure and waterproofing.

    • The Marley Chant Sport is similar and was going for $75 at JB yesterday (50% off). Less bass heavy but just as rugged and waterproof.

  • Did I read it wrong? They don't business with WA? (TV)
