Telstra $29 NextG Mobile Cap

60

I thought this was worth a mention. Telstra have a $29 Mobile Cap however it is not advertised. If you go into a Telstra shop and ask for it, they will give it to you especially if you refuse to go on the minimum $49 Cap.

Details -

12 or 24 months
$150 worth of talk/text
30MB data pack
Call rate is 42c/30sec with 37c connection fee
$10 discount on a monthly repayment option (MRO) for a phone

If you need the superior network coverage of Telstra and you don't use the phone a lot but want a cap plan, then this might be a good option.

30mb data…wow I can almost download an email….Telstra Telstra Telstra please put a zero on the end of all your data packs. Other that that its a decent deal. +v

    • You can bump it up with a browsing pack - I think $10 gives you 200MB.

But you're right - the download quotas are pathetic…but if you need Telstra's coverage, you don't get a choice unfortunately. :)

      • I realise this but its 2010 you shouldnt need to spend $10 to get an extra 200meg. 200meg should be at most the min on any data plan. My wife just gets the odd email and can use 200meg in month as a daily user. Im an I.T Admin and I can get 200meg in a day. Two very lifestyles yet 200meg can be used very quickly…..

    • its all about tha data - no bargain here as the plan leaves user open to excessive charges. 30mb is prohibitive.

Correct me if i am wrong, 3 and Vodafone does not include data at all on their $29 cap, even on their $49 cap, the included data is 50 Mb?? I dont know optus but it seems they also dont have data included on their $29 cap.

So what the fuss??? I think, Telstra is getting cheaper, not that cheap yet, but quite good move.

      • Also, even with 30 Mb, i think Telstra still offering bigpond unmetered?

      • dont mention 3. i cant wait to finish my 2 years contract with 3(still have 1 year left). i am using the iphone plan, which is ok. the problem is 3's coverage. always roaming!!!! i have to pay extra money to get online when it is roaming. fortunately i didnt get that discounted offer to get extra 500mb every month. i never used up 250mb quota, but always paid extra money on top of the $50 every month just for using the internet in the roaming zone.

how about the others? optus, virgin, or vodafone?

  • good deal, but telstra family deal mentioned in ozbargain looks still better than this one

    • Agreed but it depends if you need data included…the staff plan has no data included at all but on the other hand, you do get a $15 credit MRO on a phone.

I think the staff plan expires today.

      • Yes, Staff plan expires today. This plan is good if just want a simple small cap.

  • You can get a phone included on other $29 caps. Only a good deal if you NEED telstra coverage, otherwise not. And as mentioned 30Mb are you kidding Telstra?? Not even useful for a conservative user - designed to cost you money.

  • +ve from me, I rarely use the data (weatherzone before fishing is about it), but need the coverage, my other plan was $40 with $35 included calls, that sucked a$$, this one is way more worth it, thanks poster! BTW I called the Telstra sales 1800 line (I was amazed that its based in Australia) and they put me through to someone who changed me to this plan, no need to visit the dweebs in the shop :-)
