  • I am curious if you can receive SMS with this plan while overseas. I doubt it (as a current catch connect user).

    • +7

I'm with Amaysim (Optus) and can receive SMS without purchase any roaming pack.

      • +3

And yet I'm with Amysim and had to purchase a roaming pack.

        • Same.

        • +1

Same turn on everything except buying roaming pack and can’t connect to any carrier in vietnam

          • @nguyentran: Ah, they did something there in VN.

Previously, after landed in VN, I got roam onto one of the local carriers immediately and received msg from Amaysim warning about roaming charges. Last time I was there (late last year), i couldn’t connect to any VN telco. After few days, I found that I needed to manually select a local carrier to connect. I think it was either Viettel or Vinaphone. SMS from banks received fine after that and no extra charge.
Never have to purchase any roaming pack for 2FA sms.

SMS also received fine in Japan - auto connect without manual telco selection like in VN.

            • @timhn: Will try it next week when I am back to VN, thank for the suggestion mate :)

            • @timhn: I couldn't receive SMS for free in Japan last week with Coles mobile (Optus) . Didn't even see antenna icon on mobile. Didn't receive SMS information on arrival as well. I used to receive it for free until last year. @timhn When did you try it in Japan?

              • @yasui: Since landed here in Japan last week. Received nearly 1/2 dozen or so SMS from AU banks so far without problem.

                Got piggy back onto Softbank

            • @timhn: Confirm your method for amaysim works in Vietnam mate, thanks 🤩

    • +1

      Yes

      • +15

Kogan mobile uses the Vodafone network.

    • Worked on catch connect a few months ago.

      • Which country was that? Did you purchase anything extra?

        • China and Hong Kong. No extra roaming pack, just the 365 day plan.

          • +1

@starcub: Interesting. Was in China a few months ago on the same 365 day plan, but no signal in China unless I purchase roaming pack :(

            • +1

@HeyJes: Yep. I was there end of April it definitely worked.

            • @HeyJes: surely you need wifi with internet

            • @HeyJes: did you turn on roaming?
you don't need a roaming pack but you still need to turn it on, both your phone and your online account settings.

              • @AsukaST: I did. I always turn on roaming (even if I don’t intend to use it). Did the same thing last year and I was able to receive SMS for free in China while I was with Boost mobile (Telstra).

    • Didnt work for me for some reason whilst I was in China just recently

      • Same. Was in China earlier this year and I was (and am) on the catch connect yearly plan, but was not able to receive SMS without purchasing roaming pack. I was with Coles mobile previously (Optus) and was able to receive SMS overseas.

I guess it’s just due to specification of each individual plan, as opposed to network carrier.

    • I'm with Optus, in China now, not able to receive SMS except a welcome message received when arriving at airport
      Was working when overseas before

      • +1

Similar to me. I feel you are definitely not alone! It’s annoying as I was able to receive SMS overseas last year while with Coles Mobile (Optus network).

        • +1

Didn't receive SMS for free in Japan last month with Coles mobile. I didn't even receive welcome message. It was working last year but not anymore.

      • Message received again at airport before leaving, looks like Optus roaming works at airport only?

    • I believe Optus and any MVNO running off it will not be able to receive SMS while overseas without buying a roaming pack of some kind. Think this change was made this year.

This thread should provide more info.

      • +1

I am with Amaysim, you can definitely receive texts abroad with no roaming pack. Just got back from Bali last week and received multiple texts.

        • And yet I am with Amysim and had to purchase a roaming pack. Used it last week.

I do think it depends where you are, some countries are included and some aren't. I was in The Philippines.

          • @ruprectaus: Under settings on the Amaysim app, is your international roaming set to on?
Had the exact same issue the first time we went to Bali, came home and chatted to their customer service and they advised to change the setting. This trip it worked perfectly.

    • If you turn on WiFi calling, you can get calls and sms while connected to wifi, but no roaming for mobile network off wifi. Mine worked on a cruise ship on their wifi.

      • Thanks so much! But I always have wifi calling turned on… even during overseas …. :(

  • How's the coverage with optus 4g? Flaky?

    • +1

I've been with them a few months now & have had no issues even when travelling rural

    • +2

It really depends how rural you are travelling. Where my family live has zero coverage outside of Telstra, even in 2025. From experience, if the nearest town has a couple thousand people, you'll likely have Optus reception.

    • +1

I was previously with Telstra and now with catch, there's definitely black spots in some areas in the inner west and city on public transport that wasn't present on Telstra.

Still worth the savings though, I wouldn't go back to Telstra just for that.

Better to pay $10 more for 280GB.

Or $16 more for 360GB Data.

      $165 for 360GB

      Good find 👍🏻
Looks like this link is only available for people who find products through finders.com. The product is not available from OnePass mobile’s front page lol

I had no idea this even exists.

      Previously Catch Connect

  • +7

My catch connect (automatically moved over to onepass movile) auto renewed the other day for $150 for 120GB, but I will call them today and get moved up to this one. Will update you all on how I go!

Update: no bueno, they insisted it was only for new customers who didn't already have a service with them/Catch. The customer service rep said I'd have to get a new sim and number.

  • +2

    4G only is just bad….

  • +1

Do they support esim?cant seem to find in their broachures so I assume they dont.

    • +1

      They don't.

  • +1

So what happens in 12 months, it just renews with the same deets for $200?

  • Any other 5g Options for 365 expiry?

  • -1

    New services only

This should be on the title and as usual no love for existing OnePass/Catch mobile customers. Churn only…

  • No international calls?

    • I'm also looking for one with international calls, the cheapest I can find is coles mobile $149 for 140GB data with intl calls or $240 for 210GB. 140GB isn't enough for me.

  • -1

    Optus suck.

  • +1

If switching from optus prepaid to one pass Mobile that should be allowed yea?

And also if we order by June 24th, and then activate 30 days later (i.e July 23rd) that will still be fine? Or it needs to be activated by June 24th?

  • I am currently on CatchConnect Plan which is running out soon.
So wondering if OnePass Mobile 365-Day 200GB Prepaid Mobile Plan Starter Kit $149 will work for me or not?
And, is Kogan Mobile Prepaid 365-Day Plan Medium 200GB $139 better deal?

  • +2

This deal existes weeks ago and I have one activated for my parents. The network coverage is good. Optus and Vodafone are now sharing networks so I'd argue it's superior to Telstra - which is under investigation from the ACCC for exaggerating its mobile coverage. The porting from Everyday Mobile to Onepass mobile was minutes.

  • Can it use vowifi for calling and sms while traveling overseas without roaming?

    • No, only Telstra based services can.

  • Is this a good deal? I'm a little bit paralysed through overanalysis. I had an EzySim plan for $87.50 which is coming to an end and trying to decide which one to use. I prefer the Optus or Telstra network (EzySim was Vodafone and it's pretty unreliable at times). Voda was semi acceptable for urban life, but I'll be rural a bit in 2025.

I have 17 days left on my EzySim plan, so I better decide at some point soon (although the thrill of cutting it fine is exciting when you don't go out much).

    • What did you end up going with? im in the same boat..

      • I still haven't decided yet. Given I don't want to go with Voda, this seems as good a deal as any I've seen so far tbf. I think I'm probably going to end up going with Boost (going to treat myself with Telstra coverage) but I'll make a decision in the next few days. How about you? Any way you're going? There's almost too much choice and we all know how we OzBargainers get when it comes to Bargain FOMO, so maybe I've missed one.

  • +1

i need one soon and seems getting more expensive since i don't need that large amount of data…

  • Anyone know what is actually meant by the below. If I try activate it after will it work?? Or does it have to be activated within that time frame.

“Activate SIM within 30 days of purchase, or by the date advertised in a promotion, whichever is earlier, to receive advertised inclusions.”

    • +1

Dw I read through the comments in the other catch plan.

For those who had the same concern:
"Hi there, for this particular plan you can ignore that copywriting you have up to 24 months from the purchase date toa activate the SIM with no consequences or loss of inclusions"

  • Any reason to get this over the Coles mobile 165GB (same price)? I'm not fussed with the data allowance difference.
