Dam you MS, stop tempting me to buy an Xbox when I really want a PS4.

    • +4

That's what they're doing trying to lure potential PS4 buyers towards Xbox One!.

      • +7

And 360 player … like me.

        • +1

          Me too..

i already have an xb1 and a ps4, but i still want to "upgrade" to an xb1 s…

        • +1

like half of us here brother LOL
I already upgraded to a ps4 pro last week with the ebay 20% off deal

  • +1

Oh, I wonder if Cashrewards https://www.cashrewards.com.au/microsoft still gives 2% back on this if you use the code? Worth a try anyway!

    • +3

If you read the CR page you'll see that the coupon is listed and the cashback will be paid ;)

  • +8

The $20 off code still works too… brings it down to $329 (shame they are not still including tombraider as a bonus)

    3iumaz29w

    • I got it for this price with free tomb raider a few days ago. was delivered yesterday =)

If you want to settle for second best then yeah sure - take this deal :)

      • I think its all about current best deal, but yeah that black friday deal was better.

  • +6

    Thanks Tightarse.

You're always so tight that I get excited when you post.

  • From my memory, it was $359 or something during the last weekends but with a Tomb Raider for free? Not sure, but good deal though if that $20 code could bring it down to 329. Thanks OP

    • +13

Pretty sure Xbox has more games with backwards compatibility. Other then that, not many exclusive titles for any consoles these days.

There is no real better console anyway, it's what you prefer. I prefer xbox, mainly for the controller……….

      • +1

XBO has been outselling the PS4 in the USA, UK and Australia since the One S came out.

      • +3
        • for the controller. PS controller is not comfortable.
    • +6

More games, more players, more fun.

      And no UHD drive.

      • This. Very very tempting….arrghhh

    • +3

I have both an use Xbox 95% off the time

      • Do you prefer the controller? I would consider getting XO but I don't see the reason.. maybe gears but that's not enough

        • +1

Yes, but probably just because I have used the 360 one heaps.
I would say the 2 are equally awesome.

If you dont have a pc there is
Gears 4 + 1, all Halos, Recore, Forza Horizons, Forza 5+6, Quantum Break, Sunset Overdrive, Crackdown 3, Rare Replay, Dead Rising 3, Sea of Thieves, Scaldebound + 360 exclusives goning backwards compatible.

      • +2

Same here. I buy games on Xbone if its available. Prefer the controller.

Also prefer Xbox LIVE over PSN. But thats not as important as having a more comfortable controller.

    • you were downvoted in that post

  • Request for advice. For someone new to 21st century gaming, with 2x young kids, which is a better option: Xbox One or PS4?

    Usage:
    1. Rocksmith and television streaming for dad
    2. Non-shooter games for kids

    Thanks!

    • +4

Both consoles are pretty similar but the PS4 has well outsold the Xbox but at the end of the day if you don't really want any games that are exclusive to either console (which there aren't many of) then just go with what you can get the best deal on. They are both priced really well at the moment so now is a good time to jump on board both have almost all the same games suited to both children and adults. I would suggest looking at what exclusive titles each console has in case you miss out on a game you really wanted.

    • +1

      Wiiu?

      • +9

I have 9 year old. Wii U all day long. It'll be cheap, and with the Nintendo switch coming out next yeatlr, prices will plummet even more for this 'Failed' console. Beat thing ever for kid safe IP and co-op couch play.

        Nintendoland
        Super Mario Bros U
        Rayman Legends
        Super Mario Maker
        Mario Party 10
        Mario Kart 8
        Need for speed Most wanted
        Minecraft Wii U

All of the above can be nabbed cheap if you are patient or don't mind getting second hand online.

Personally love the Wii U but I'm not a die hard gamer anymore.
        My 2 cents

        • +6

I second Wii U, but unfortunately its not cheap, still $100 more expensive then PS4 and Xbox One. No sign of a price drop either.

        • +1

          @bernietoast:

I've been waiting for the Wii U to drop in price but looks like I'll need to pull the trigger on an Xbox.

        • +3

the best game you have not listed at all - Splatoon
          online shooter, kid friendly.

          the BEST

        • +1

          @diddy50:
          OOOOH….good point!
          Forgot that one.

        • +2

@Hellfire: Yeah I doubt there would be one (a price drop) before Christmas, but for kids, I think the other two consoles really can't compare. Not only on the games side of things, but with Wii U, there is no installing games BS, and kids seem to find opening a game on a touch screen much more intuitive and inviting then picking up a PS4 or Xbone controller. Obviously depends on the age of the child though.

        • +1

          @Hellfire:
I'd recommend getting a second hand one.

Plenty of Wii U premiums with lots of accessories out there.
For the price of a new one you could probably grab a nice 2nd hand one with accessories and games. Lots on gumtree with extra controllers and accessories you wouldn't get if you bough one new:
          http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-wii+u+premium/k0?fromSearchBox=t…

I jumped in on the fantastic Mario Kart 8 bundle 2 years ago for 269.
          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/146282

Best value ever. I had a spare portable USB drive so I didn't care about the lack of on-board space and taking up both USB ports in the back to power it.

        • @kfuerza: Thanks for the suggestion but looks like they are selling for a premium despite being second hand.

        • +1

          @Hellfire:
          No worries. Happy to help.

Forgot to mention 100%backwards compatability with all old Wii games too. 😊

        • +1

          @kfuerza:

I bought a Wii U soley to play Tokyo Mirage sessions and i dont regret it one bit. awesome console.

    • I think PS4 and Xbox1 are about the same in regards to games for kids. You'd want to look at the Wii U if that was your priority, no Rocksmith though :(

    • +1

If you missed the 360/PS3 generation, then an Xbox One might be better due to backwards compatibility, just check the list before buying a 360 game. Rare Replay (30 Rare games including a lot of kid-friendly like Banjo Kazooie, Viva Pinata, etc for ~$29) is ridiculous value for kids and adults on its own.

Plus, quite honestly, if you do have any warranty issues I've had far better experiences with Microsoft's aussie support services than Sony.

That said, a PS4 is great too so unlikely you'll regret either purchase.

    • Nintendo Switch - out next year.

    • What TV do you have and is that likely to change in the next 6 - 12 months? Does dad or the kids own an Xbox 360 / Playstation at all with games that might be backwards compatible?

If you've got previous games that might be backwards compatible, go that route.

If you're on a standard 1080p TV and unlikely to go 4K anytime soon, then you can go with either.

If you're on 4K or headed there within the next 12 months, I would go XBOX S (due to the UHD Bluray Drive etc).

Also, Xbox Live has lots of great side scrollers and arcade-y type games included each month as part of the Games With Gold promotions… not sure about Playstation.

    • My kids really enjoy kinect games with Xbox

    • -2

There are more games in physical form for PS4, 3 great games which are also kid friendly are Journey, Teslagrad and Brother.

      • I see the truth hurts some people on here like always

    • i would strongly recommend wii first not wii u….it's so cheap now…or may be try NES mini.
once you've mastered it then next one to consider will be wii u…

    • Buy whatever console their friends have, no point having online games if they cannot play with friends. Either console is great.

  • +1

https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/277948 is still active for some bundles.

    • Nah… not really quite the same bundles now as tombraider has been removed from them all by the looks.

  • +2

lol no forza horizon bundle, the only bundle i wouldve considered :/

  • +12

I think the JB deal was better. Two good games and priced $319. I combined it with 10% off Ultimate Kids card, and bought those cards using 5.5% off wish eGift cards. So effectively 15.5% off that $319, making it 271 AUD for the latest XBox One with two games.

    • I combined it with 10% off Ultimate Kids card, and bought those cards using 5.5% off wish eGift cards.

How did you manage that? Via self-serve checkout?

      • No, so far I understand woolworths / bigw always allow to buy gift card using the wish eGift cards. I have bought them on many occasions over the last three years, and no one asked a question!!

      • You could buy anything you want via self serve checkout with the wish gift cards I thought, if it's a physical item in store and you can scan it?

        • +1

I always thought the gift cards had to be validated by a 'manned' register.

        • +1

@tranqme: In self checkouts, one of the sellspersons will come out and approve the sale.

    • +5

      That's some true OzBargaining.

    • +2

Yes, JB was better…. also had a choice from 4 games for the second game… although digital download is a bit of a turnoff for me when the games are so huge.

    • +2

If only Harvey Norman had this bundle, could have price matched and gotten the 100 off 300 spend too.

    • +1

Agreed. Bought the bundle from JB over the weekend with 7.5% JB e-vouchers.
They price matched (Big W/Target) the games that i bought with.
Also my receipt shows mix n match discount approx. -$18 (I assume there is an additional discount if you purchase games with the console).

  • Damnit I just bought a PS4 PRO, but I want to play Dead Rising 4… now I'm tempted to get a XBOX ONE S. >.<

    • How much did you pay for the pro? Worth it in your opinion?

      • +1

        I traded in my original PS4 500G and a few PS3 and PS4 games.

I ended up paying $291 after trade in at EB.

I think it's worth it because my 500GB drive was running out of space and it would've cost me ~$100 just to upgrade it to a 1TB.
Besides, I bought a Playstation VR during the 10% site wide eBay deal.
My understanding is, the VR will work a lot better on the PRO.
Also, new games will utilise the extra grunt to give better frame rate and resolution.

I took all the above into consideration and I think it's well worth the $291 for an upgrade.
The games I traded in were gathering dust. XD

        • Don't know why someone negged you.

I also traded in my 500GB OG PS4. EB Games gave me $240 and over $200 credit for a dozen games I paid between $3-$15 each for. I think the remainder was about $110. I think that's a pretty solid deal considering the secondary market for PS4s has them going for about that (plus I made money on those games).

Cleared some much needed shelf space of duplicate games, got rid of my console for a solid price and upgraded to a higher-performing/capacity console for $110. That's a win to me!

        • @Kugz:

He negged me because he is expecting to pay $300 for a PRO without trade in. XD
Not going to happen, the PRO is in high demand at the moment.
A friend of mine who is living in Japan just told me the PRO is sold out everywhere and the next shipment is coming in mid-December.
EB told me the same, when I was there last Friday they had to check for stock because they sold quite a few recently.

I traded in a lot of my old PS3 games and a few PS4 games that came with the bundle.

    • any deals on ps4 pro?.. or you paid the normal price of $559

      • +1

I traded in my old PS4 and a few games.

No deals on the PS4 PRO, I think it's running low in stock.
I think a lot of people took advantage of their deal last week and traded in their old PS4 500GB.

        • woops.. just read your other reply..

  • I'll keep my powder dry until boxing day sale.

    • Yeah, guessing that if they are running this sale all the way up until 24th December then boxing day should see something a little better (probably similar to black friday deal).

      • They are running this deal until the 31st December.
Look at the bottom of the page.

"Save $50 on Xbox One S 500GB bundles - terms and conditions: Offer valid from AEDT 12:00am on 28 November 2016 to AEDT 11:59pm on 31 December 2016, while supplies last."

I'm tempted to get Gears of War 4 bundle.
It comes with a physical copy so I can just trade it in for Dead Rising 4. XD

        Any good XBOX exclusive titles?

        • Good point… perhaps TA needs to change the expiry date on this one. I wonder if MS just changed it or if it was always that date? If people think boxing day sale might be exactly the same they may be more inclined to buy earlier.

    • +2

JB deal was pretty awesome and in the past I have seen boxing day deals to be boring.

      • Yes I missed that one… $319 is really good value.

  • hey guys, MS is not promoting kinect with XB1? Is the kinect any good now? kids still love to play the kinect games on 360. is it worth upgrading?

    • MS appear to be moving away from Kinect for some reason, the Xbox 1 S doesn't even have the port, you have to get an adapter (currently freely available if you give them serial numbers). My kids also love the Xbox 360 Kinect so its a shame they are not really pushing it much now with Xbox one.

      • +1

The Kinect adapter is as big as the power brick from the original XBox One, no idea what drugs the MS design team used on that day when it was made but they need to lay off that shit, its bad.

        • +1

O man in that case il stick with my 360.

  • Think i will wait to. I only want it for the Uhd bluray player.
If Pro had this it would have killed it.

  • +1

I got my Xbox one S at the last MS store sale for $329 with tomb raider and BF1 bundle with a White One S 500GB. I still haven't opened it lol. Impulse buy!

  • +1

How much is an extra controller? Any deals on those?

    • Yes, I'm also on the look out for a deal. Can Xbox One controller be used on Xbox One S ?

      • The JB HiFi staff told me 'yes'

      • It sure can and it only takes 10 seconds. Press and hold the Xbox One S controller sync button [it's just below the console's power on button].

  • WOW Difference between 500GB vs 1TB is almost $150. Better to buy external drive with 500Gb of Console to make it cheaper.

    • And 2TB is going for $599 minus whatever codes. I don't see the point in buying a 500GB model when the games are so huge. I don't believe an external drive is going to be anything but a pain in the neck in terms of speed, plus you have an ugly part hanging off the machine.

      • i used external drives with xbox one . No difference in speed for me at least. So i would save at least $200 with 1TB external drive connected.

      • A 500GB is good for someone like me who will use a XBOX ONE S as a secondary console just to play their exclusives.

      • +4

External drives are actually faster than the internal ones on the Xbox. I'll find sources if you want. I noticed it too when I ran games externally.

        • +1 for external drives being faster - especially with a 7200rpm one.

USB3 is faster than SATA II (the internal interface).

        • +1

          @BradH13:

Ha that's cray! Good to know for people who are keen on this deal but concerned about 500GB internal storage

      • Not sure about xbox but upgrading internal hdd from 500 to 2 was easy and cheap for the ps4. I got one for 100 bucks online.

        • +3

For XBOX ONE, you don't even need to open up the console to swap over the drive.
You can just plug in a USB drive and it will work like an extension.
With a PS4, you can only use a USB drive for backup and not as an extension drive.

        • @JajaMinx: yeah he said he doesn't like the ugly thing hanging out the front
