    • I was able to get both an ANZ Rewards and Commbank Platinum Awards as a student but I did have a full-time job when applying. Once you get in though you're sweet as they don't check your credit history for downgrades or upgrades.

    • +2

You'll have a better chance of getting approved if you apply with your bank (if they issue Amex cards, otherwise any CC in general), provided that your bank account shows you are good with money and you have regular income for (I think) at least 3 months.

The more CC's you apply and get declined, the lower the chance of you getting approved. So stop applying for CC unless there is a very high chance of approval. Eg. dont apply for those Amex platinum edge cards with high minimum income requirements.

  • excellent. thanks

  • Thank you so much!

  • Dangit, just a couple of days after I spent $140 at Rebel…

    • you used last month's offer though right? it's the same as this one but minimum $100 spend

      • …no, no I didn't! Argh!

    • Return the goods if u opened and rebuy again?

  • Question: I have last months harvey Norman spend 300 and get 100 back saved to both mine and my wife's cards (seperate accounts).

If we purchase something for 600 and pay 300 from each card will be both get the 100 back.

Has anyone tried this? I can't see why it wouldn't work…

    • +1

      YES

    • +1

Yes, paid using 2 Amex cards

    • +1

yep paid using 3 amex :)

    • I purchased something for $900 and used 3 cards (two of mine, one of my wife). There are many reports of folks having used a dozen or more cards to buy big ticket items like TVs over in the thread where the HN deal was first posted.

    • +1

Split $1850 bill over 6 cards.

    • Awesome, thanks for the info!

  • Can I use Westfield gift card to make purchase of jb gift card at jb hifi?

    • Only if staff allow you, most likely not.

      • May as well try ur luck to buy it at Coles, if u can find one inside Westfield (u can buy Ultimate Gift Card at 10% off too, valid at JB). No, officialy you can't do that neither, but as Turd said, only if staff allows u…

        • Thanks.

      • +2

I saw that but thought I'd give it a go anyway. I used it at the big Woolies next to Town Hall station. I used self-checkout - pressed "card" for payment method, and just swiped the giftcard and entered the pin.

        • Voted up! Save$2

  • what is amex? noob here

    • Too afraid to click on the link or google?

      • Savage.

      • Cut him some slack, might be busy on something else.

        • But not busy enough to ask here, or even write the exact same thing on google instead.

        • Yea his name is Hornpub after all… swap the letters around.

      • did, too long. i prefer short version. and ppl here do good job at that.

        • Clicking the link (one button) is too long??

          Googling "amex" is too long?

Too "long" or too difficult or just plain lazy, knowing people here love to work for free?

          Too many enablers.

        • @Ughhh: long = wall of text.
          not time

        • @Hornpub:

          https://lmgtfy.com/?q=amex

Seriously, 1 word to google = Amex
First link at the top, 2 words = American Express.

Click on the deal link in the OP = 1 button
Company logo everywhere = American Express

Im sorry you find that 2 words is a long wall of text.

    • +1

Hey, this site explains it pretty well: https://lmgtfy.com/?q=amex

      • Apparently thats too many words for him. Oh dear.

  • Anyone tired/know if getting the Westfield XS card will get the credit?

  • +3

Thanks ninja for continually bringing us these deals and manual links, very much appreciated!! :)

  • +1

Thanks OP. You keep me busy again!

  • +3

Just got a $200 XS gift card at Chermside Westfield and split payment over 2 cards, haven't received confirmation email yet though.

  • +1

Does First Liquor sells Coles Myer / Wish gc ?

    • Yes to Coles Myer gift cards.

  • +2

Has anyone got their email confirmation for anything yet?
I bought gift cards @ Chatswood Westfield concierge, they didn't allow split payments, and the lady was all huff and puff to another staff about how annoying it is, and how Saturday was going to be a nightmare LoL
So I asked her to have my cards for $98 instead of $100 for the 2nd and 3rd card. And then she was like you have to have $100, all other people bought $100 this morning blah blah, then she went reading through the T&C with the other girl lol

I'm at Myer now, hesitating whether to buy the gift cards now or tomorrow to better trigger Amex emails?

    • +2

I just got GCs at Myer… it worked.

      • Thanks I just got the Myer gift cards!

    • +2

Wonder how she'll feel when I show up tomorrow with 10 Amexs :)

The emails aren't important, sometimes they arrive sometimes they don't. The credits if they don't come through you just need to call Amex and they will make sure it happens as long as you have met the T&Cs.

EDIT: bluedufflecoat confirmed Myer statement credit emails arrived.

      • +1

When I walked past again it was a different lady, maybe she got fed up already.. Her name was Judy…

        • +4

Judy. Thanks for the tip. I'll keep an eye out for her to really make her day :)

        • +1

@PBG: By insisting on a bonus coffee/hot chocolate card per Westfield gift card?

        • @lamprey: Update: I went to Westfield Chatswood concierge desk today, Amexs in hand, only to be told it's now one $100 gift card per person. The grumbly concierge (Sara) also didn't offer up the bonus coffee/hot chocolate without being prompted. Sheesh

I then went to Myer Chatswood who were only too happy to help me buy $750 Coles Myer gift cards and split payment over 5 Amexs (the wife wasn't with me so I didn't want to push my luck for the other 5 Amexs). Top marks for excellent staff Myer.

        • I remember a couple years back, Chatswood westfield ladies were the worst. Getting all worked up about the gift card promo and hating these people lining up to buy gift cards.

I guess, they haven't even changed a bit

        • +1

@villemus: The work ethic of some people!! Terrible customer service. They get paid! Do YOUR JOB or get another one.

    • which level?

      • +1

        4 I think

    • Just do split payments and save on the card fee

      • Depends on the staff, some are annoying and dont allow it or not.

        • Then just walk to another one. They have several concierges at each Westfield and they all sell gift cards.

    • Which concierge is this? The one near Din Tai Fung or the one near Myer?

  • Can someone confirm that the BWS offer works if you click and collect?

    Thx

  • Why do you have 10 AMEX cards?

    • probably (1 main + 4 supplementary)*2 :)

    • +1

I assume that question is for me. Between wife and I we have:

      Each have primary Plat Edge and supp on each other's accounts;
      Each have primary Plat Reserve and supp on each other's accounts;
Each have primary ANZ Travel Rewards.

The ANZ ones come with our home loan package and we get the free flight. The others we cancel every year and sign-up to a new Amex offer so we don't pay any fees but we do get bonus points/more free flights.

We could get some extra supps on the Amex-issued cards for free but it's already tough maxing out 10 Amex cards when these offers come through. We normally show up together to the checkout, say Dan Murphys, and then ask to buy 10 x gift cards in 10 x separate transactions. We make small talk about "buying gift cards for our staff" and the checkout operators normally have no problems with it.

      • Supps the same as your name? lol or "fake" name?

        • Haha, supps same as our names. No pets or imaginary friends in our house.

Because the cards all look the same I've had to write on the back of each in permanent marker "PRI" or "SUPP". That and my spreadsheet skills help to keep things under control.

        • @PBG: Wait does amex allow same name sups? ??

Oh each others account, good thinking!!

You can get mroe amex cards I think. Using friends names etc.. They actively allow that, sharing and getting more reward points.

Since each amex mas 4 supps.

        • @Turd: Yeah but how many is too many (did I just say that?!?!?!). 10 is already a lot to max out when spending in-store. It's a bit embarrassing when a long queue forms behind us so we try to visit at quiet times.

I could get milko and his mates involved to generate another 12 free Amex supps but how long would the queue behind us get if we asked for 22 Westfield gift cards?

        • +1

          @PBG: haha yeah true…

Just go to different stores at different times!

        • @Turd: I remember you have 9 Amex's, yes? You know the pain. A good warm fuzzy pain, but a pain nonetheless :)

        • +1

@PBG: Yes.. :) FREE MONEY SURVIVING IN AUSTRALIA!!!

        • @PBG:
Can you provide more light on your spreadsheet skills?
I had nightmares keeping up with the shop small promo on my several amexes….

        • @mmd: Nothing exciting, just one sheet in a grid format with cards running along the top, I have a few columns for if the offer is instore/online/both, what the spend is, what the cashback is, when the expiry is, a column for comments and a column for 'spending strategy'. As the offers are saved to card a marker gets placed in each card's column. As offers get redeemed (multiple times if necessary) then the markers change to numbers depending on the amount of times redeemed.

At the far right I have a column which calculates how many offers I have used and the gross saving. Finally I then have a column which I manually enter the real saving - for example if I use the Woolworths Amex offer to save $20 off $100, well that's not a $20 saving to me. I get WISH cards at 7.5% off so really the Amex offer is only saving me $12.50. At the end of the Amex free 1st year I use this real saving column as one of the factors when deciding my next course of action in terms of keeping/ditching/reapplying for Amex cards.

      • My partner's supplementary Amex cards (one CBA, one ANZ), have the same number as my cards (as the primary holder). So how is it possible to save the offer to both the primary and supplementary cards when they have the same number?

        • +1

CBA CC has same number, my ANZ credit card has different sup card numbers.

What ANZ CC do you have?

        • I thought ANZ issued amex has different card no for supps. Or it is depending the actual type of CC?

        • +1

          @victorheaven:

Oooh, thank you for making me double check - the ANZ ones are slightly different - I had assumed they were the same like my CBA one. Another round of registrations, here we come!

        • @Maltopia: A bit late to the party here since you've already worked it out. Yes ANZ supps have different card numbers. So do Amex-issued supps.

  • Why is there website so slow..?

    • Where?

    • +1

      Chinese hackers DDOSing

  • website is unbearable slow …

  • Got three gift card purchase at Hurstville Westfield concierge. Can confirm they don't split payment and no email has been received so far.
There are few people lining up for the gift card already. I think soon they will run out of cards so as Myer.
Like to what happen on Sat

    • Myer coles group gift card wont run out. they got heaps at the back.

    • Depends on the person working there. I was able to split payment and got email confirmation too

    • What happened on Saturday?

  • Westfield one finished? Not available from my offers. (Others are)

  • ohh gosh i can't keep up with all the deals

  • Is anyone able to confirm Myer sells Coles Myer group gift cards? Has anyone bought it and received the email from Amex?

    • +2

Got one this morning from Myer, had to walk round a bit in store though to find a register counter that sold them. Also received email.

    • I got confirmed emails for myer deal

    • Yes - purchased using 4 cards and received emails for all 4. Plenty of them when I went lunch today at Sydney City
