  • i have a kd49X8300C, would it be worth upgrading to a X8500D? bigger screen aside, my tv doesn't have HDR and i wonder how much i can get for it to sell to upgrade to the X8500D

  • +2

Got the prices of the X7000D and X7500D the wrong way round.

    ;)

    • +1

      off topic:

X70D can be had for 799$ frm Costco (Ringwood, Vic) saw last week.

  • +3

I'm waiting for Sony to do the X8000D deal again…….

    • +1

Wait for the Boxing Day sales

    • Yeh really bummed out that i missed that one!

What is the difference between the X7000D and the X8000D?

      • -6

        The number, obviously

  • Oops. Fixed :)

  • How long is this sale going for?

  • +1

If my parents only watch 720p, 1080i/1080p content, do they get obvious better picture with 4K tv? (65"7500D vs 65w850c)

    • +4

For good quality content the upscaling can be really quite nice. However, for not so good quality content (think DVD, SDTV, poor bitrate HDTV etc), the upscaling will expose all the inadequacies of the source and basically look worse on a 4k screen than a HD screen. But this GREATLY depends on how close you sit. If the screen size of 4k TV is bigger than the HDTV its replacing you really need to consider whether you need to be sitting further back to avoid this issue. Example, i sit 2.8m from TV and went from a 58" HD Plasma to 70" 4k LED. For 2/3 of the content i watch, it was kinda torture. It simply looked worse. I needed an extra meter viewing distance to minimise the flaws in the source so as to not be so obvious. I got a refund and now have a new found appreciation of my HD Plasma (though the bugger is on its last legs).

  • Got the 75" X8500D a few weeks ago

Connected to internet via wired LAN. However, every 10 days or so, it wont detect the LAN unless I do a factory reset.

Wireless is fine though. Anyone else having the same problem?

    • I've got the 55" X8500 last time around on sale and not seen the issue you are referring too. I really don't like that you cannot pause live TV like on Fetch/Foxtel, et even though you can start recording.

    • Have the 75x85d got from Costco for 2999
Not experienced the issue you are referring to ? Hv you updated the tv to the latest version.?

      • yep, all updated. Maybe mine is a faulty set, time to call Sony! thanks for replying

  • +1

Wish 75x8500d drops to $3-$3.5k during Xmas!!

    • I'm going to buy that TV if the price drops below 3K.

    • Was recently for $2999 Costco black friday

      • Are you sure it was 75x8500D?

        • I have purchased it so YES i am quite sure :)

        • -2

Can you please upload your Costco receipt?

        • +2

          @PW: ??? Why …anyways I have no reason to lie. 65x7500d was $1500 75x85d-$2999
Need to check how to upload the receipt.

        • +2
        • @Jabberwocky:

I asked for your receipt because I need it to get JB and other retailers to price match.

          Thanks heaps!

        • @PW: Any luck with price match? Hard ask I think

        • @Savvy:

I am so going to buy it if it is at that price.

      • Geez that's good. Did you post the deal?

        • No I could not Coz I walked into the store on Monday to purchase some grocery etc from Costco only to see last 2 TV left at that price. Store manager (Jorge) said they received very limited number of TVs and those sold within an hour.
Though he told me they had sold out huge stock of 65X7500 @1500, nearly 500TVs and all sold in less than a day.
They received stock in 2 batches - Black Friday & Cyber Monday.
They have been instructed by HO in US to offer deals on these 2 days similar to US.
So expect something during Christmas week, if it's a push for adoption on corporate level

  • I take it Sony are not yet making OLED screens?

    • Apparently Q2 next year for Sony OLED TV's.

  • What are your thoughts on the 75inch Sony?
I'm currently in the market for 75inch but can't find much feedback on alot of the 75's

      Sony 75x85D
I own one pm me for any info…summary:
      Pros -
      -Best upscaling of all 3 4k TVs I have(Lg 65uh770t-samsung 65ks8500 and Sony 75x85d)
      -Android TV is a plus
-No judder..very good motion, smooth picture
      -no lag for gaming
-Nice color reproduction + 10 bit HDR panel
-Voice control on remote is good
      -It's SEVENTY FIVE :)

      Cons-
-Not Deep blacks like OLEDs (neither is the price)
-Its IPS panel not VA (IPS Good for viewing angles, VA good for deeper blacks)
      -Edge lit not backlit
-No local dimming (all above 3 in a way relate to deep blacks)
      -No 3D
-It's not 200 Hz just 100hz..in fact all TVpanels are 100 and rest upgrade is using software, I have 200hz 4k as well. Not much difference day to day.

Overall happy with it, can't complain 75" for 3k

      • -1

Hang on a minute? 3k? How'd you manage that?
I didn't realise it was 100hz.thats a deal breaker for me.

        • +2

          rminc
          Don't fall for marketing gimmicks
As mentioned earlier I hv 3 TV's 2 are 200Hz but day to day does not make a difference at all, not even on UHDs.
As it is all 4k TV's claiming to be 200 are actually 100 Hz panel which really makes a difference and rest 100 Hz software controlled. You wouldn't see any difference in 90% of the things.
What, matters for a 4k tv in straya is good upscaling, Coz we don't have lightning fast internet which means highly unlikely to see Netflix/YouTube on 4k, neither are alot of 4k discs….
This TV really upscales very very good. I have mad max both on bluray and uhd disc. The difference is HDR for a naked eye that's it, it upscales that good.
Bought it from Costco black friday-cyber Monday deal

  • Combine with 5% off Coles giftcards then 10% off JB Hi-Fi cards (at Coles)… Not a bad deal.

Edit: 10% off isn't currently active, though for those who stocked up… You'd be laughing now.

    • 5% off Coles gift cards? Can't officially buy gift cards with gift cards and deal is over anyway.

      • I tried and it worked, I bought Coles Myer gift card from Myers and used that to buy JB gift card from Coles.(I had other stuff in my cart)

      • It depends what you consider official.

You may get the odd worker who isn't sure if it's meant to work, but there's no real terms against it and it works perfectly… Visa gift cards may not work and Coles gift cards have some terms surrounding them, but that only relates to purchasing Coles gift cards with Coles gift cards.

tl;dr: No terms say it's not allowed, and it does work - that's official enough for me.

        • Says quite clearly that gift cards cannot be used to purchase gift cards.

        • +1

          @wxyz234:
You're assuming a dictionary definition of gift cards, rather than the one given by Coles in their terms.

          "Gift Card" means the Gift Card that you have purchased or received, such as one of the following: Coles Group & Myer Gift Card, Myer Gift Card, Target Gift Card, Kmart Gift Card, Officeworks Gift Card, Coles Gift Card, BI-LO Gift Card, flybuys Gift Card, Vintage Cellars Gift Card, Liquorland Gift Card, 1st Choice Liquor Superstore Gift Card, Myer Returns Card, Coles Thank you card and MYER one Gift Card;

With the above in mind, gift cards (for the purpose of said terms) are only gift cards for Coles group stores - a full list of which is included above.

Note this definition extends beyond "purchased or received" as it would be a compliance failure once you have completed the purchase (the new purchased card would then be marked as purchased). In other words, it's poorly worded, but I don't think anyone would get away with arguing you can buy Coles group gift cards still as it's only defined in this agreement that you can't buy "purchased or received gift cards". Once the transaction is complete, the new card is purchased - this is then a compliance failure with the terms of the old card.

That being said, none of this matters for non Coles group gift cards.

tl;dr: gift card only refers to Coles group(s) gift cards for the sake of the terms. It's against terms to buy Coles group gift cards with Coles group gift cards.

If Coles intended to stop people using these methods, they need to stop using monkeys to write up their terms… Though I would assume this is an intended loophole Coles profits from.

  • No 32 inch sets? I need a 32 for fitting in a certain area requirements.

  • Don't forget the flagship Sony 65" z9d now $4798 - cheapest around that I have seen

  • Similar prices @ Bing Lee

    Sony KDL65W850C is $39 cheaper

  • which one is a better buy Sony KDL65W850C 65 or Sony X7000D or Sony X8500D 55" only want spend up the max of $1600. is bigger better? im a bit out of touch with HDTV atm

    • +1

Focus on 4k now (65W850C should not be a consideration if you can buy 60-65' 4k around $1500-1700).
Content will grow exponentially in 4k minus the TV channels.
Also Bigger is better in 4k as the recommended viewing distance is half of the LED LCD screens. So space crunch rooms can also host 4k as their permanent new room-mate.

You will get a 4k within the next 15-20 days 60-65' near to 1500
      Keep an eye out for

      -Samsung KU6000 series
-Sony 7500 series (65' sold for 1500 at Costco 2 weeks back)
-Hisense M7000 (65' sold around 1500, few times already)
-TCL65C1US (hovering around 1700-1800 already, 2nds world is your best bet for this TV)

      • Bought the 65W850C in October with 20% off Ebay and TGG. Very happy with it.

Time to use my 28 degrees to claim price difference :) with that in mind, this TV will have cost me $1100 bargain!!

      • Are you saying there would be new deals in next 15 - 20 days?

        • Should be especially at Costco

        • @Jabberwocky: unfortunatly no Costco here in Darwin so whats the next best thing still the 65 I know the deal is over but getting ready for other good deals to come

  • +1

Should I price match with Harvey Norman? Will get a further $100 off with Amex deal.

    • +1

      Yes.

    • +1

use multiple amex's and split the payments!

    • How do you get another $100 off with Amex?

      • Through amex deal, like the one with Sun Glass Hut

  • In the market for a 65 incher, you folks think eBay will have another %20 (TGG / BL) off this year? Looking to spend up to 1.6k

    • wonder the same thing!

  • Good advice thank you didn't know about the viewing

  • JB give extra year(s) warranty for TV's over $500 for free FYI if that sways anyone. Confirmed with multiple store reps.

  • Hi all, Thanks OP for this. I need some advice. I'm after a 65" or 70" and now trying to choose between the 65" X7500D ($1998) and the 65" X8500D ($2396) I've also been considering the 70" Hisense, but it's back up around $2600 @ the moment. Anybody care to share thoughts??

    • I'd also love to get some thoughts on this. I'm having trouble choosing between the two.
I have zero interest in 3D movies if that helps at all?

    • Pulled the trigger - got the 70" Hisense 70M7000UWG The GG's for $2236. At that price, I didn't see the need to wait for Boxing Day. Very happy with it straight out of the box, haven't had time to muck with settings yet.

  • Tossing around Sony X8500D 55'' vs Sony X75000D 55'', is it worth to pay $480 difference guys?

  • JB didn't have any Sony X8500D 65" locally, so got the Goodguys to match price $2390. The sales guy couldn't believe how low JB were selling them.
