  • "This plan is available for the connection of new services only, existing services cannot be transferred to this plan."

Porting over from other telco considered as connection of new service right ?

    • I'd assume so.
Sounds like it only excepts those already with Jeenee.

    • That's correct. The plan is only available to new customers or existing customers that connect a new (ie - additional) service to their account.
This is a stipulation of our wholesale supplier

      • if i port over to jeenee, will it automatically "cancel" my existing contract with Vaya for me?

  • +6

Note that there are excess usage charges for Jeenee, this is not a prepaid service many are after.

Except for the 500mb extra data, it could be better off recharging twice a month (only if you need to) with OVO's offer:

    • +39

That is correct - we are a postpaid service.

However, we do take bill shock seriously which is why we offer to automatically bar a service once it reaches 100% usage. Admittedly, this is not done in real time and is subject to network delays (and cannot occur in the middle of a data session), but we always try to do the right thing by our customers wherever we possibly can. We have lots of potentially vulnerable people as customers - people living with disabilities, the elderly and lots of families with young kids. We find that barring at 100% works well for a lot of our customers. Some people prefer to let their plan run over and are happy to either add a data pack or pay on a PAYG per MB arrangement. It's really up to the individual to make the choice that best suits their particular circumstance.

The OVO offer is very good - however, this offer has been designed for people who require more data.
Please also note the other differences in this plan

Voice calls - we offer 200 mins (not $200) also our excess call charges - $0.14/min with no flagfall (vs - $0.99/min plus $0.40 flagfall)
This plan also includes UNLIMITED Jeenee2Jeenee calls so the whole family can talk without fear of overspending.

        upvote For the detailed reply.

In terms of the difference in call credit, 2 OVO recharge gives us $400 call credit, for the most extrem case of 1 min phone calls, we can make 400/1.39 = 287 mins worth of phone calls.

I stand by my argument, the only downside of OVO offer comparing to yours is the 500mb data, everything else is more superior.

        • "more superior" -> facepalm

        • superioror

so if i dont care about calls and just care about data this jeenee plan is better than all the deals available right?

  • -2

They are okay but practically impossible to reach them by phone if you have to get anything done - even updating your payment details…
Can be very frustrating so not sure it's worth the savings. Probably Woolworths Mobile is a better / more relaxing option on a better network (Telstra vs Optus).

    • +1

I've contacted them before fine. Probably about 5 times all up. I think the longest I have waited is 10 minutes.

    • +1

I had no problem calling them when I needed to. They picked up almost immediately.

  • Hi rep, I signed my daughter up to the $18 2gb plan last week. Any chance I can switch to this plan if I call up?

    • +2

If she hasn't activated then no problem. Give us a call on Monday and we'll sort it out

      • How soon after receiving the Jeenee SIM card do you need to activate it? I only just paid for another month with my current plan a few days ago.

        • I too would like to know this - I would like to activate 1 out of 3 new services just ordered in Late January as opposed to when SIM arrives

  • Was with them before I switched to Vaya and can speak nothing but praise for them and what they do <3

    • What made you switch? Network? Better deal?

      • +2

Made the switch to Vaya last week for better deal - $22/month for unlimited text/SMS and 8gb data.

      • Yeah pretty much what b-radicool said below… just couldn't beat that 8gig for $5 more :)

    • +2

Bad move. I switched from Vaya.

      • haha yeah I've heard bad things but thought I'd take the gamble for the 6 extra gig and if it was shit I'd just ACC them to get my money back and change back to JeeNee :P

I don't talk much on my phone anyway more sms/data so hopefully will be okay

        • +1

You should be right if you have that much data.

My problem was that Yaya sent me a text to say I was at 80% of my data use a day before the end of the month. I then received a $150 bill saying I'd gone over the cap. Turns out data use is 48+ hours old as the info is delayed coming from Optus. Took weeks to dispute. Had to go to the ombudsman. Told them to beat it.

        • @LittleKatie: haha crazy! Glad you won! <3

  • +2

I really dislike excess data charges. I want to just use the internet without worrying about paying $40/gb if it goes over. Setting a hard limit is fine when it actually works but then you have to unbar yourself and buy a data pack. Why not the automatic $10 1gb other carriers have? That seems to be fairly common nowadays and much more convenient.

    • Neither am I. My mum keeps hitting the limit and getting automatically topped up on Optus. This always happens near the end of the month and there's no way to turn it off. So I'm planning to sign her up to this prepaid https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/274525 seems like a much better deal IMO and when you run out you run out, unless you text asking for more. It's much cheaper too, $23 for 8gb but you're gunna need to pay for the whole year upfront. Not sure how it will fair reception wise compared to this though

  • +2

If vodafone will do then the Kogan deal is much better value ($17.50 / month for 3GB and unlimited calls).

Optus does have better coverage so in those instances it's a decent deal if you don't mind postpaid. With the availability of great prepaid deals these days I'm not sure why anyone would want a postpaid service. And also, if prepaid can cut you off the instant you go over then why does postpaid take up to 2 days to cut you off? I think they do it on purpose (the carriers that is, not jeenee)

  • +1

The only thing I hate about Jeenee is that us existing customers get shafted:/

  • With no connection fee, there is an 'easy' way to not get shafted and it will only cost you 2 bucks.

I'm on the pennywise 25 and using less than 80min a month. I guess its worth changing to save 60 bucks a month??

  • Do the sim cards actually have a cute smiley face on them?

  • +1

If you need international calls and better network coverage like me, Telechoice is a good option. For $20, it only gives 2GB data, but has Telstra 4G network coverage, $500 credit for national and international calls, unlimited sms. I am happy personally to trade that 500MB for these.

    • That sounds like a good deal for my usage pattern.

Can you Hotspot/tether (iphone) with Telechoice?

    • I had the network issue to consider for myself too - my family's place in Tas only has Telstra coverage (no Optus), so when I go home to visit for extended periods I would be offline with Optus. I bought an AldiMobile SIM and pay a bit more, $35/month but with 6gb data + unlimited calls/texts + 200 international minutes. Works well for me. :)

  • Is there an automatic recharge option? Knowing me, I'll forget to recharge at the end of the month and then will be stuck with no credit when I need it.

  • Vaya is best $22 8 GB, unlimited text/SMS Optus 4G
Have been with them for around 3 years on their $18 plan, never had any issues..$10 per GB if you go over the limit and all operators have to send warning texts at 50% 80% etc of your data usage.

Ported number out to Kogan to try 30 days for $5 promotion and had issues as it shows 4G but actually doesn't load anything..huge difference*
Back to Vaya on their 12 months $22 plan and very happy.
P.S. I have also tried Telechoice (Telstra) and couldn't see any difference as compared to Optus..both seems similar while using 4G.
*Just my own views, coverage depends on the areas you travel.

    • Does vaya includes international call similar to telechoice?

      • You hear of too many headaches on Vaya.
However my parents use them and have yet to have problems too.

Quite happy with my Jeenee plan 400 minutes 2GB unlimited texts for $18

        • I never had any issues with Vaya.

      • No it doesn't. Telechoice $20 plan is best if you want intentional calls.

    • Can't get the Vaya $22 8GB plan any more, it's now $33/month (and you have to pay 12 months in advance, so factor that in too)

  • +1

Hi, rep do you have plan similar to telechoice $20 which allows international and local calls ?? Telechoice and tpg are the only in the market with $20 plan that allows international calls using the credit they give on the plan.

    • Yup. If I didn't read this post, I wouldn't have known. I'm on TPG, but this Telechoice sounds good. Unlimited local SMS, 2GB instead of 1.5GB, on Telstra… I didn't even know they were a vno.
      Thanks fan8956! I'm swapping!

    • Hi, we do offer included international calls as part of our Unlimited Pennywise Plans - but these begin at $30 per month
      * $30 Unlimited Pennywise Plan includes $50 international calls inclusions & 4GB Data
      * $35 Unlimited Pennywise Plan includes $300 international calls inclusions & 8GB Data (this plan is discounted to $30 per month for the first 3 months)
      * $40 Unlimited Pennywise Plan includes $300 international calls inclusions & 10GB Data (this plan is discounted to $35 per month for the first 3 months)
      * $60 Unlimited Pennywise Plan includes $500 international calls inclusions & 15GB Data

  • Hi OP, Could you please confirm if the porting (transfer of number) only happens when I activate the new sim card - I am hesitate to provide my current plan details (mobile number, carrier, and even my current account number) for porting on signing up (no sim card received yet). Also, any indicated time frame of porting from Vaya (Optus network a well?!). Needless to say, I would like to have the option of effecting the transfer (by activating the sim card?) at the end of the billing cycle of my current plan. The above seems obvious but I just don't want to get caught if otherwise. Cheers,

    • Hi, thanks for your question.
The porting process only happens when you initiate it with us. When you receive the SIM, contact us and we will begin the porting process. Your SIM with your current provider will remain active until the port completes with us.

The port from VAYA to us will take up to 48 hours to complete (as this is a manual process that Optus must complete - not us). I would recommend you give yourself a few days for the manual process to occur so that you don't get charged for another month with your current provider.

      • Thanks for the advice. Will go ahead based on this information. Cheers

      • Hi OP,

I noticed the following T&Cs upon signing up -

        "Billing

Important: Your billing will commence as soon as your service is added to your account and posted out to you…"

Could you please confirm if this is the case or the billing period only starts upon completing of porting to your network?

I would have to put my order on hold until this is clarified.

        Cheers,

        • Can confirm Bill date is the date you sign up which is kind of scammy.

Got my SIM a week later, tried to activate it with porting from Vaya.

They said 28th Dec. So 28 comes around. My Vaya SIM dies at noon and my Jeenee SIM also fails to work. I'm now about 24hrs without any mobile service. And I checked my account. I only have about 20 days left on my billing cycle, which is kinda bs as I've never even used the service yet.

Email and messaged them but so far I'm still without service. They said they'll submit a report and call me back (lol wat) Can't call them or receive calls as I have no working service. Ported heaps of times before with other companies. This is a first for me.

        • @plasmoske:

Anyhow the SIM is working now. Got in contact with a helpful support on FB Messenger.

Bills promised to be fixed tomorrow.

          :D

  • +2

Thanks for sharing. Probably not worth the stress/trouble to transfer the service under these conditions.
