Accommodation is generally expensive in the Maldives and can be between $150 and $2500 per night depending on budget. I had a little look and saw this https://www.airbnb.com.au/rooms/16316831?guests=3&adults=2&c… for ~$150 per night in Guhli.
I'd recommend using Trip Advisor and/or Airbnb.

      • Thanks, hadn't even thought to look on Airbnb.

Last time I was there was almost 20 years ago in an overwater bungalow. It was fantastic but expensive even then.

We looked at going back a short time later, but the only private accommodation we found at that time was flats on Male, which had no beach and definitely not a quiet place to relax.

The Airbnb you suggested looks interesting.

  • Is there any budget accom in the Maldives or is it 100% luxury resorts?

Never been but always wanted to go surfing there.

    • I've not heard anyone ever say the Maldives were "cheap". Good value maybe, but that's because it's beautiful. I don't think it's a cheap destination at all. For a cheap island getaway you're probably better off with remote Indo or South Pacific.

For Melbourne-Maldives travellers on 7-16th March ($699) theres a 20hr stopover in HK http://imgur.com/a/N31yr - HK has no visa fee/restrictions for AUS travellers so if you've never been I'd strongly suggest you get a bus from HK Airport into the City in 1hr ($10ish) and spend 1 night and a day there as well.

Also coming up $669 in some dates - see: http://imgur.com/a/m19Xm

    • Shame you can't extend the lay over a bit more.
