i kind of want this even though I use like maybe 3 bits all together

also i wonder if these bits are impact ready given that some of the duties noted in the spiel require the use of an impact driver

    • +1

I was wondering the same thing.

If you follow the link that franco cozzo provided to the same product on the Home Depot site, there's a Q&A section where is says they are not impact driver rated.

      • Might not be rated but can they be safely used in an impact driver? Any cheap similar alternatives which are rated?

        • They arent safe as impact drivers. There's a process to make them safe. This doesnt have it. Be that as it may, if you wear safety glasses you're probably ok.

        • +2

@tonyjzx: "safety glasses you're probably ok."
reminds me of the old Seinfeld joke about skydiving and helmets.

        • @tonsta:

Pretty sure that was a joke before it was on Seinfeld.

        • @justtoreply:

Are you dare saying Seinfeld isn't original? shocked face emoji

Nice! Going down to get a set now

its 5:42am…youre a bit keen arent you ;)

His closest Bunnings is four hours drive away. Such is the life of the man on the land….!

        • +2

a 4 hour drive would have been to get to the nearest Masters for most people.

        • @abc:
I think one might have to drive for longer than that to get to their closest Masters nowadays!

        • @rodericb: you would be driving in circles trying to hammer in the point but in the end it would be a bit of a stretch to find a masters store.

        • +1

2 hours to the end of the drive way.

    • +12

Don't lie you just want a sausage for breakfast. If you know what I mean :p

      send in the drones

    • +14

Update: was first in line at Bunnings this morning and got my set. Thanks for the heads up ozbargain

      • +2

did you arrive just before opening or you camped out the front?

        • +3

Camped out front, didn't want to miss out

  • +6

seems like a decent array of bits….warning though: ive found ryobi bits corrode if you dont wipe them down/clean them after use. just the perspiration from your hands is enough moisture to commence corrosion…my set from 4 years ago has a nice layer of brown on them :P

    • +4

Rust is a good sign. If they have too much stainless in the alloy then they can become too soft.

      • +16

        You should work in marketing!!

        • Possibly, but every tech bit I have that is nice and shiney has cracked. I guess the more high tensile steel they use the more likely it is to rust. Bad for cutlery, good for tools. Hopefully these tech bits have magnets in them?

      • Says contains lead on the back…. nice and soft i guess.

  • How much were these normally?

  • +27

To celebrate the end of Masters, we have on offer for you competition-deprived suckers a 145 piece…….

…Now just don't get used to seeing deals from us too often.

  • +42

Gonna get this for the Mrs, will hopefully improve her driving!

    • +11

If only it was a vacuum cleaner and screwdriver on special.

    • -1

Came for the comments, found them, well, quite boring…

Edit: humour fail - kit doesn't contain any drill bits… :S

      • They failing to drive it home. So they are. screwed.

  • +3

Saw this days ago and was thinking about posting but didn't think it would get any votes. I'm sure everyone knows that feeling.

    • +50

Who cares about the votes. As long as you post it and one fellow OzB benefits, you did your bit.

      That's the OzB code

      • +2

That comment gets a vote from me.

        • +3

Haha yes ironic that those agreeing with 'votes don't matter' seem to love the upvote button

      • If something doesn't get any votes it isn't a bargain and shouldn't be posted surely? I see hundreds of sort of good deals from Bunnings that I resist posting.

        • There's a lesson here…

        • If you have a fan base you'll get voted up quicker. In your case you should get Captain Haddock, Milou, Tournesol and the rest of the team on OZB.

    • I always try and up vote all tool deals. We never get enough deals.

    • +1

Dont let the vote Nazi's get you down…

  • These would obviously be compatible with other driver/impact drills and not just ryobi I take it. Specifically the Stanley Fatmax Driver and Impact set. They're mostly standard bits nowadays aren't they?

    • Yes, they're just driver bits.

Only problem with this sort of stuff is quality, they'll probably rust quickly and the bits probably wouldn't take much abuse.

      • I don't own them, just going by the brand and price.
      • +1

I have a set of ryobi and dewalt driver bits. Left them outside overnight and next morning they both had rust spots. So I guess they are all the same. The black impact bits were much nicer and no rust at all assuming cause of the coating

        • +1

A lot of Dewalt's stuff aint all that good quality these days, so I wouldn't expect them to be all that much better.

There are quality brands that won't rust and take abuse, but they won't be $19 at Bunnings.

        • @Kleetus:
I probably lose more bits than actually break them so I guess it makes no sense for me to buy expensive bits.

        • @Frozensage:

you mean cheap bits .. not expensive bits.

  • +6

These are rubbish. Light duty use not in a powered drill of any type is fine.

Have cracked plenty of these with my drills. Luckily they give you a few of each type.

And yes they rust overnight. Keep them in a bucket of oil.

  • +2

Cheese grade steel. But it is damn cheap. I will add you can probably get away with drilling into wood with these. I usually need to drill/drive into metal.
Add your puns below please I need a laugh.

    • You'd be struggling, these dont have any drills included

      • +1

        Drilling a self tapping screw?

        • You wouldn't use self tapping screws in wood.

But nice recovery attempt with your second post.. 😀

        • @RockyRaccoon: why not? I don't do much wood work. I'm not soft lol

  • Another surplus piece to throw in my trunk :\

  • +1

    One left in Gungahlin.

  • Good enough for home use.

    • Yeah if you only use them occasionally, I was told they won't last very long.

  • +4

145 pieces. How many zip ties?

    • +13

      144.

      • And one case.

  • +3

Can anyone comment on the quality? Ashamed to say that I bought one extended Sutton tools bit for more than this whole set.

I'm done buying cheap stuff, they just don't last for me.

    • pretty cheap compared to what i paid for a ryobi bag/drills/bits combo <- my experience of ryobi bits
theyre bits. they work…i havent stripped any of mine doing a small corrugated roof installation & other odd jobs
they rust pretty quick though(2-3 years with minimal use)…so thats definitely not great :(
so maybe….6/10? i.e. cheap but youll probably buy another set later on down the track to replace them… :P

      • +1

        years? did you mean days?

    • +3

From my experience, Sutton is much better quality. Good decision. Your Sutton purchase is closer to an OzBargain compared to this Ryobi set.

      • Yep they are quality. Had to do a lot of drilling into hardwood and they went the distance.

  • There are 43 left in stock at North Parramatta…
    and now 42

    • Thanks for this info. Means there's heaps and you're good to get some over the next few days.

    • can confirm still a few at north parra, picked up two for me and a mate

  • +6

I bought a smaller Ryobi set about 6 weeks ago and I thought that the quality was very low. I ruined about 6 philips bits in about 30 mins (trying to use the correct size bit and technique). I have other brands that lasted much better.

I would rather pay more for better quality.

For example, pay 3 times as much, but it lasts 10 times as long = ozbargain.

    • Well a typical OzBargainer will probably just look at the price rather than quality. He he. puts flame suit on

  • +3

Can I neg this ozbargain because I think the quality is crap?

  • -4

Good bargain but yes they will snap on first instance of heavy duty application

    • -2

Well that's a backhanded compliment if ever I've seen one.

In case you didn't realise - you're on Oz'Bargain'…you should be negging the actual product in a review not the OP. You said yourself "good bargain".

      • YeH nah bro the ryobi ones don't last long

        • Can someone please explain to me what the expression "yeh nah" means

        • +3

@blibster: Sort of means 'yeah' he understands what the other guy is saying, but 'nah' he's wrong.

Or just pretend the 'yeah' isn't there.

  • +2

Just grabbed last one at Thornleigh

  • 3 left at Rydalmere. Sticker says $39.99, scans at $19.98

Edit: I picked up 2, left 3. One ended up being a 145pc pack, one was a 106pc pack. Not sure if the remaining 3 are 106pc or 145pc packs!

  • Got one there were a few left hanging up in the tool section. They look like they are the same ones that are sold in the USA, so the packaging talks in imperial measurements - does it matter?

    • A bit some sizes will be different. Plus you can't just pick up a 10mm you have to know what the closest imperial value is.

  • Picked up the last two af Bunnings Belconnen

    • I got the last at gungahlin bunnings

  • i grabbed this one and then the smaller case with drill bits 128pc for $27

    • Link to 128pc drill bit set please? Can't find it on web.

      • you're right its not on the bunning site but they are instore right next to the 145pc at the last 3 bunning stores ive checked in the last two days

Ryobi Drill and Drive Kit 127 Piece A981271

        • Thanks found product at Homedepot USA. As mentioned previously by @LoopyLou the pricing there is faaaar better - for same set $9.88!

        • @leTintin: I put in 8.1% tax and a conversion rate of 0.72, works out to be just under AUD$15.. $5 cheaper than here, which is within tolerance.

        • @feihong: OK yes didn't check out the tax situation but we were talking about the set that is $27 here so almost half the cost.

        • @leTintin: Which as you would expect in most cases (especially prior to 2007) given the economy of scale there.. Although the price difference between USA and Australia is getting smaller by the day (for example, I see Masters' stuff cheaper than its big brother, Lowe's , from time to time).

        • +1

          @feihong: ….whats 'Masters'? :P

  • Anyone seen any left at the Cairns stores?

  • Picked up 2 yesterday at Cranbourne VIC yesterday, there were still around 10 left at the time. For those Bunnings Powerpass holders, you will get extra 5% ($1) off per set!

  • Plenty left at Bunnings Bonnyrigg, NSW.
