sounds like good price but no comparison in store available just a SD DVD hooked up in Earlville. Anybody hooked up a modern PC supporting 4k? Reports please!

    • Brought one a few days ago. Damn, suppose to be on special is now $100 less. Target don't do any price guarantee do they, anyone know?

We are happy with picture. Tried 4K from Youtube. Played well and looked perfect to us.No problems we noticed. No we do not play games.

3 Year warranty through Target swayed us mainly. Know were to find them if any thing goes apeshit.

To be honest the sound is crap, as all these large screens are that I have heard. Looking for a Coaxial Soundbar now. Anyone recommend one.

Has anyone found the Service Menu keys yet?

Target don't do any price guarantee do they, anyone know?

No but it is very easy to buy a new one with the lower price and then return with old receipt. Done it plenty of times with no questions asked.

      • Service menu
        Press Source, then quickly press 2, 5, 8, 0

Be careful in there …so many things you can do.
Eg, don't accidentally reset the tv after tuning it and doing a THX picture calibration… You'll be pissed off with yourself. Lol. I did it twice!

    • I have a TCL branded version also bought from Target. Had a go at running Mad Max at 4K but felt just a little bit too much input lag. Otherwise 4K desktop looks decent.

      • Sorry, was this a a Game or Mad Max 4K movie??

        • Mad Max game.

oh man, i was hoping for the Super duper platinum ultra magnum dong HD TV. What a shame. will have to pass

    • Wow, so creative, how long you been waiting to use that?

      • -2

didnt take long with the number of posts lately of rebadged oem tvs this week

i think we've long established that these low quality panels are a waste of money

        • +1

Heard this type of stuff once before. Many years ago about the , as we called them then," These cheap Jap crap will never last. We know it's crap. The customers will soon wake up what it is".

National Panasonic, Sony and the rest, they'll never survive in the Australia market."

I used to work for a company called Pye, we made TVs right here in Australia. We did not think we had anything to worry about. Hell, we all knew it was low quality Jap crap that was coming in. Boy were we wrong. The high end , Sony, LG etc are right now getting the same lesson.

Matter of fact you sound just the same. "We know". Who is the We in the know?

As you can see here daily, in the end it's always the bargain buy that wins out.

        • @saywhat: im not dissing the deal cause its rebadged chinese tvs

i know ChangHong, TCL and Hisense etc make great tvs

Its the ones that BigW/Target/dicksmith branded and the kogans which try to market these tvs as something great by slapping on a "brand" like JVC or Platinum and marketing the fact that its "4K" that i have an issue with.

The panels are going to be LG and Samsung, well duh, theyre the only ones who make these kinds of panels, but theyre cheap because theyre the lower grade panels they dont use in their own premium models. So what makes you think they would be any good?

im using an A- LG panel as a PC monitor, because the hardware behind it is decent (at the time i bought it) and i saved $1k because it had 1 dead pixel

But the stuff that these deals advertise sound like a bargain, but theyre not cause the colour reproduction and blacks and refreshrates are usually subpar

Do a search on ozbargain for the last few deals for sub $800 4k tvs and read the comment section of reviews or people whove done their research

At this price youre better off buying a premium 1080P tv with great colours and refresh rate than a subpar 4k tv with no content

  • Same price at ebay (ebay.com.au) if you want 1.25% cashback

    Hell yeah I want my $6.$6.2375! (1.25% of $499 = $6.2375)

I hope this is genuine enthusiasm; otherwise you may be on the wrong site.

      • I'm very serious. Every dollar counts towards getting more bargains ;)

  • A lot of poor reviews about the sound. I'm looking at getting a cheap TV for my short-term rental place.

For those who have this - can anyone comment if it'll suffice?

    Cheers

You will not find a modern TV with decent sound.

      • Pabasonic VT55 and sound is fine, not Earth shattering but perfectly fine enough that I dont bother turning on my speakers anymore. It is a few years old but perfectly modern

    • I have the non 4k version of this and the sound is OK. Much better than the soniq we have in the kids lounge. Reasonable for regular TV viewing but better to connect some proper speakers

  • One of the reviews in target about sound

Decent picture but sound is not good.
    17 December 2016
ProsEasy to Use, good picture quality
    Conspoor audio
Recently bought one of these to use with a Foxtel Box and a couple of games consoles, I really cannot complain about this TV for the price, I found the picture good but I have to say the sound is really not good.
There is unfortunately no audio out so I am adding an HDMI to HDM box with Audio Extractor which should allow me to put the sound to my amp, I have ordered one off Ebay for less than $20 which should resolve the problem.
Good TV for the price but you may have to spend extra for satisfactory audio.

    • They make (UHD) TVs without ARC??

      • Exactly the same question I was going to ask!

        • +2

          Has ARC and coaxial out.

        • @saywhat: are you saying this TV does have these?

    • Have you purchased or have any info on how theses extractors work. Does it pass DRM crapola.
Sounds like a good idea. Now to find out if it works ?

  • +1

Picked one up and plugged in my Mac Mini via HDMI.
    3840x2160@30Hz 😍

    • Wow 30Hz. Like a modern day John Logie Baird!

      • Just you watch me McFly. I'm finally catching up on my video editing from last millennium.
Though I'm getting a stiff neck. WWJLBD?

    • Does it have wall mounting points?

      • Yes, 4 screw holes in the back in a square, 20cm between each corner.
        (manual says "200 x 400mm, M6 thread screw")

  • Bought one from target for $499 on 24 Dec. Very good value.
Only issue is that it jumps to the same channel for every power on(Ch2 in my case).
But it can be fixed by changing the "hotel option" in the setting menu.

  • Has any one found a link to the web page on this model or a link to a manual?

What is Targets refund policy on products taken back?

  • Sold Out Online (target.com.au). 5 still showing on eBay but they've cancelled orders before.

    • use the find in store feature and hunt down those local stock! ><

      • Yeah, but FREE delivery was a bonus. Not everyone has a Corolla ;)

        • this is true.. and cashrewards via ebay

        • Fits in the back seat of an Elantra, if you don't mind squeezing the box (there's ~15cm foam corners to squish). The box is surprisingly light.

        • @muncan: you got the newer elantra, 10 years ago I bought one specifically due to the wide back seat but I hear these days the Pulsar is the widest in the class.

  • Would someone be able to tell me the ports which are on the back of the TV and the refresh rate? Thanks!

  • Bought it last week and am pretty happy with it largely. Does anyone know how to connect this with the thomson sound bar which you get in target :

    https://www.target.com.au/p/thomson-2-ch-bluetooth-soundbar-…

    Regards

  • When recording while watching, anyone know how to remove the REC symbol from top left of screen?

    • Another example proving there is no problem gaffer tape can't solve.

      • Need another bit of gaffer to cover up PVR on play back.
