The top first review for this diamond cable on Amazon by AndrewCJ 'May cause slight problems' is so damn hilarious! Had me in stitches haha!

Are these made in China? I believe so.

    Company owner: Dr Feng.
    Headquarters: Tianjin China
    R&D: Shenzhen China
    Software Development: Shenzhen China
    Factory: Dongguan China
    Distribution Centre: Illinois USA
    Warehouse: Delaware USA

    • +5

      Dr Feng?
Is he even a real doctor?

A bit wary because I got burnt once buying a product from a so called 'doctor'.

      • +12

Dr Dre isnt a 'real' doctor either..

        Bye everybody!
        Dr. Nick Riviera

        Good enough for me!

      • Dr feng is no more a doctor than colonel sanders was in the army.

I get the jokes and sarcasm, but Hifiman is a good brand for audiophile regardless where it's made. I own the HE-500 and have been very happy with the audio quality albeit it's a bit heavy. I would put their high-end model to compete with the LCDs or Sennheiser's. So if you know audio, you know Hifiman.
Now, back to the jokes and sarcasm….been fun so far…. :)

      • Seconded. :) Hifiman have some amazing products. I owned a pair of RE0s 5 years ago. That's what got me into buying good headphones/IEMs

Most high-end audiophile gear is not for the severely budget conscious.

      • Ok 'dr' jokes aside I actually owned a pair if RE0's and liked their sound quality.

However, they literally fell apart after a couple of years (one of the drivers came off).

Being a $100 pair I thought nothing of it.

        A $5k pair I would be a bit more cautious :)

        • I heard good things about their planar headphones. Will try these out when I go overseas in a few weeks.

  • +7

With its ridiculous price tag, I expect the earphone not only to have the best audio quality, but also able to perform miracles such as curing deafness or time travel.

    • +6

Cure time travel? Do you know someone who has traveled to pre last ice age and needs to urgently get back?

      • +4

Do you know someone who has traveled to pre last ice age and needs to urgently get back?

        I might…

  • Thanks OP, been waiting for this price to drop below 5k! Just bought one for me and the mrs!

    • Sure.

  • +2

Take my kidney, I want this shxt!!!

  • Don't forget about Officeworks price match 😜

    • +2

jbhifi refused a price match. they said it was below cost.

  • Grab one of these headphones so that you can take a break and listen to sounds that you like.

I would take a break if I had the $4,999 in my savings account.

  • +6

Should go well with this US$7000 AudioPhile Ethernet cable:

    https://www.amazon.com/Denon-AKDL1-Dedicated-Discontinued-Ma…

(be sure to check the reviews)

    • can you jump start a car with these?

    • +2

Lol the guy who had his severed hand re-grown after he accidentally dropped the cable in milk and drank the milk :)

    • +4

The reviews and answers made my day.

  • +2

Wow…with the amount you'll save here with just this one deal, think of all the stuff you could buy…

  • what a bargain..

"Less weight (reduced to 420g) with increased comfort"

  • +15

I might get this for my wife … seems like a fair swap.

  • +2

In all seriousness…they have some headphones on sale…

    https://addictedtoaudio.com.au/collections/headphones/produc…

That's not a bad price. And free postage keeps it a good price.

  • +1

FYI this 5 grand headphone alone is not enough(at all) for enjoying music, you will (at least) need a suitable headphone amp(judging by this price that means a 10K amp)to use it, so…

BTW Chinese products are somewhat redefined by this headphone, isn't it?

    • +1

Errrr….you know that the included Gemini 2000 is a very suitable headphone amp, right

      • -1

        a 4K headphone + 1.3 K amp…

Usually the amp price should be doubled to suit the headphone,I am using sennheiser HD800(999 aud from DWI)+HDVD800(1800 aud from Addicted to audio after TRS) + CH800S(370 from Apollo hifi)for listening music.

        • +4

FWIW, I don't accept that logic plays today (ie amp cost needing to be a multiple of the headphone or speaker price). That's folklore from the early 70s/80s as audio solid state design was still in its infancy.

        • @OzDJ_:

I am sure there are people who would plug in their ie800/k3003/se846 into a 300 bucks mobile phone, it should be fine as long as they are satisfied.

        • I'll sell you the Gemini 2000 for 8K and then the sound quality will be unbeatable.

        • +1

          @dazweeja:

I wish making money could be this easy too.

        • +1

          @Hsinking:

You could make it easy for one of us ;)

        • @dazweeja:

KAWAI, Faber Castell, Derwent and ATO(last but not least)have made their moves before you.

      • +1

Yeah.. amp/dac seems fine. But one would also need to spend some big$ on power cord and usb cables. I recall seeing $500 power cords and $1000 USB cables (seriously!).

        • +2
          • balanced cable.
  • +1

But can I price match these at HN and get $100 back from Amex?

    • I don't think Hardly Normal will match the price. They will ask you to there and buy, why you are here.

  • do we need ears to use these?

    • +3

You will grow ears if you put these on your head.

  • No deal…saw these on aliexpress for $150 and with a microsoft Zune as a free gift.

  • DAMN bought these last month on full price. Should have waited

  • Hiya OP. How does this compare up to my Xiaomi Hybrid HD? Im thinking of upgrading to this cos I have problems with the Xiaomi cable kinking.

  • +1

Beats by Dre are still better :<

  • +1

HifiMAN, no women allowed near the tech plz.

  • +10

I know everyone's laughing at the price tag but this is a hobby for some. I've dipped my toes into the water with the Sennheiser HD600s which have certainly changed my listening experience for the better (and that's just mid-fi). It's no different to spending money on a hobby car, or buying expensive handbags, etc etc.

    • +1

Anybody buying many different models at $200-$500 each should seriously consider just going all the way instead of tinkering around at the low-middle end constantly and never being satisfied. There are plenty of people who have spent $5k cumulatively but still have a setup that is likely far inferior to the one in this post.

However, without an audio demonstration, I wouldn't dare drop $5k.

PS: I'd totally consider this if I thought it was the ideal setup that I was going to keep for 25 years. I'm running UM Miracles for canalphones after having to replace many $100-$150 sets due to cable breakage and it was a fantastic decision. The sound is so incredible, my jaw literally dropped on first use (and I'm not an audiophile, I just took a punt and went 'all the way' given units with replaceable cables were minimum $400+ anyway).

  • I will buy a couple of these to resell on Gumtree!

    • I snort laughed at ur comment.thanks :)

    • +2

and get offered $200 and get called a bed wetter if you refuse to accept.

  • wtf @@

  • -2

    RIPPED OFF!!! …just got a few pairs @ $$7248 a pop…. do they have a price guarantee?

    • +2

I can guarantee that you didn't read previous comments.

      • -3

        Absolutely not…why? I only bothered reading yours cause I got a notification….

  • iPhone 7 with no Headphone Jack. :+(

    • Don't limit yourself so quickly! Buy Bluetooth receiver and you are golden!

  • +3

Seeing the ridiculous price of these headphones, and the fact that almost everyone is either shocked or making a joke about the whole thing, what's with the 125+votes? I think it's safe to say just because a deal has many +votes doesn't necessarily mean it's a deal any more.

  • No shit, my dad has a set of these…He does clock a fat grip though so it isn't really an issue for him. He has an Eames chair in his music listening / reading room so y'all would definitely think he's crazy on his purchases.

    • He has a music listening room. Nuff said.

Aah, everyone who had a house pre-2003'ish doesn't realise how good they've got it.

      • If my dad decided to buy a house these days in this totally inflated market it's still make no difference to his lifestyle.

He doesn't own heaps of shit, only has two houses which he uses equally. When he does get interested in something he goes all out.

To think he used to let me bust out on his Fenders and Gibsons when I was 8 making horrible noise from an original fender tube amp or his AKG headphones is hilarious. Or play the final countdown way too many times on his stupid expensive stereo that is still in operation today.

He did buy those guitars in the 70s at around $300 bucks. Some of them are worth like $30 000. That is pretty impressive.

  • Just pleasantly surprised from the lack of trolls and the sheer number of audiophiles on OzB for a 100+ upvote on a premium consumer discretionary item with waaay cheaper alternatives lol.

    • +1

then you didnt read the comments at all then

      • +1

oh sure snide remarks, but still 220+ upvotes, no downvotes, as of this post. still quite a shocking ozbargain occurrence.

  • +29

Word of warning. These have rubbish noise cancellation. While listening to The Notorious B.I.G.'s 'Mo Money Mo Problems' I could still hear myself sobbing while I stared at the receipt.

    • True.I could still hear my rolly jinggling in the sky as I waived it side to side.

  • Do they come with an iPhone adapter?

  • +1

HE-1000V2 is listed around $3600 in China, even plus tax they should still have lots of profits for this price

  • My Mrs keeps taking my iPhone earphones so I bought her these but she took mine again don't buy it guys they not white

  • They have a store in Melbourne, they'd better watch an African flash mob doesn't just show up as happened at four Officeworks stores http://www.theaustralian.com.au/national-affairs/state-polit…

    • Doubtful that mob would be interested in these - insufficient bling and bass.

  • +1

I've heard great things about these such a bargain compared to those Orpheus 55 thousand headphones I'll take two one for me and one for my imaginary Lamborghini
